The Witcher: Rise of the White Wolf coming to Xbox 360, PS3
We've been playing the excellent action-RPG The Witcher recently, and though we've been enjoying ourselves, the experience has been missing one thing: A constant stream of invites to play Left 4 Dead. It seems developer CD Projekt is sensitive to our concerns, as it has just revealed that The Witcher: Rise of the White Wolf is coming to Xbox 360 and PS3.
The game's controls have been completely rethought and streamlined for the controller, though the story elements appear to be the same as in the PC version. You should be able to try it all for yourself in the Fall of 2009. We'll let you know more as we hear it.

that's good to hear, I heard this game was pretty good but was unwilling to shell out the cash I needed for new cards
Tykin @ Dec 2nd 2008 11:29AM
The game was one of the best RPGs I have ever played.
That being said, it had quite a few technical failures such as horrible load times and times where it would chug along. My graphics card was well within minimum requirements and I would have horrible framerates anytime the game decided to make it start raining.
I think CDProjekt should release a patch allowing gamepad support for the PC version first just to get feedback from the community.
Also, I'll be interested in seeing how the overly complicated herbal/inventory system is done.
AwesomeTown @ Dec 2nd 2008 11:56AM
@tykin
Completely agree. Going from The Witcher Encanced to Fallout 3 was like building a brand new computer. When I got into the Trade Quarter I really had to turn down the settings, especially view distance, and it still slowed down at times. Fallout 3 on the other hand runs like a dream at the same 1680x1050 resolution. It was still a completely enjoyable experience, don't get me wrong, but it did have its flaws.
j.howlett @ Dec 2nd 2008 11:13AM
i hope it comes intact, i've heard good things about it and wouldn't want it toned down
Shagittarius @ Dec 2nd 2008 11:14AM
" the story elements appear to be the same as in the console version."
You mean the 3DO version? FACIAL!!!

I am a bit upset that PC gamers lost this exclusive to consoles but I remember that we have also received many console games in return, like DMC4, Lost Planet, GRID, GTA4, Burnout Paradise is coming next year, etc.
I hear the console versions will have improved graphics and such, all I want is for these extras to make their way onto the PC.
The developer of this game is awesome, when they released the Enhanced version of the game in September, they gave the extras of the game for free to those that bought the original. So I hope we will get any console extras if present.
j.howlett @ Dec 2nd 2008 11:23AM
you make very little sense
Chin-Poh @ Dec 2nd 2008 11:24AM
How so?
GenBanks @ Dec 2nd 2008 11:34AM
Although I can't really imagine how the console graphics could be that much better, hampered as they are by the hardware and resolution limitations which are absent on PC.
j.howlett @ Dec 2nd 2008 11:36AM
that whole first paragraph.
Chin-Poh @ Dec 2nd 2008 11:38AM
Later in the interview video above, the guy says the game will have a graphical boost, it will use a new engine. The engine used in The Witcher is a heavily modified version of the Aurora Engine first used in 2002.
I wonder how different the combat will be in the console versions vs. PC. Fall 2009 for this game is a long while away.
Chin-Poh @ Dec 2nd 2008 11:40AM
j.howlett, as an "assholic PC elitist", I was a bit upset when this game was announced for "console peasants" to enjoy, our divine platform losing an exclusive. But I felt a bit better because we have received many more console games to our platform in return. More clear to you?
bm @ Dec 2nd 2008 11:51AM
"j.howlett, as an "assholic PC elitist", I was a bit upset when this game was announced for "console peasants" to enjoy, our divine platform losing an exclusive."
Haha, I can't tell if this is sarcasm.
baby sea tuna @ Dec 2nd 2008 12:58PM
God, I hope that *was* sarcasm Chin-Poh. If not, congratulations, you are a diaper-baby of the highest order!
Duke @ Dec 2nd 2008 2:45PM
I didn't know PC's had "exclusives". How does it hurt a PC user to have a game on consoles too? I never understood the assumption that a game is too damaged to enjoy because someone else with another system could enjoy it too.
Einhanderkiller @ Dec 2nd 2008 7:04PM
I think the updated graphics will make it over to the PC version. I mean, CD Projekt RED did spend months overhauling the dialogue, inventory system, game performance, and more of The Witcher to release as a free patch. Adding the new graphical effects to the PC version shouldn't take too much effort and CD Projekt RED always wants to please its fans.
blindfromthesun @ Dec 2nd 2008 8:07PM
I wouldn't say that your not making sense. I understand completely; your a predominantly PC centric gamer that believes that every platform is due its exclusives. You lament that the Witcher is coming to consoles but acknowledge many console games eventually make it to PC. Not hard to understand.
On topic: can't wait for this game. I hope it doesn't have the graphical shortcomings of the PC version. Crossing my fingers. Hopefully the console version isn't delayed (I'm looking at you PS3).
Rollins @ Dec 2nd 2008 11:16AM
My girlfriend got The Witcher for free with her video card. Hasn't played it much though. Maybe I'll steal it and give it a shot.
AwesomeTown @ Dec 2nd 2008 11:23AM
Awesome, really fun single player RPG. Well worth getting, and I hope they do get out a sequel sometime. The gameplay is a bit action oriented and should translate well to consoles. But why wait? Go get the enhanced edition on PC now.
tmacairjordan87 @ Dec 2nd 2008 11:24AM
This is good news as I was interested in this before but it was for PC so there was no chance I was going to touch it. Looking forward to yet another game to play in 2009.
MikeO. @ Dec 2nd 2008 11:50AM
I'm with you there, tmac.
I rarely play any PC games anymore and I absolutely love RPGs on my 360. I saw this game and really wanted to play it, but wasn't going to update my PC to play it.
After finishing Lost Odyssey and Mass Effect, I'm hoping Mass Effect 2 and this both drop next year. That oughta cover me.
Shagittarius @ Dec 2nd 2008 12:03PM
My first choice of platform is always its native dev platform.
I would prefer if PCs ruled the world though.
Obie @ Dec 2nd 2008 11:26AM
Dunno about the game, but that screenshot is badass...IN DA FACE!
donalbane @ Dec 2nd 2008 11:28AM
The PC version let's you mod it to it's original uncensored state, and is therefore infinitely superior. Unless, of course, they release a special 'Uncensored Version' as they did with Leisure Suit Larry, which seems really unlikely.
So I'm sticking with the PC version, but boy, I bet the fighting plays a bit better with a controller.
Archon @ Dec 2nd 2008 11:38AM
I've got the PC version, but I'll be sure to rebuy it for the PS3 when it comes out. Why? To support the developers who are a small Polish-based team. They fully deserve it as they don't get any recognition outside Poland. You know 'Insomniac', 'Rare', 'Codemasters' blahblahblah, but 'CD Projekt'? Oh!! The Witcher guys? You mean Atari, right? Right?
Jakka ( The Order of Haters of Balance) @ Dec 2nd 2008 6:14PM
Frankly, it doesn't take much for CD-PROJEKT to be far away from the devs you've mentioned. Witcher was excellent for their first game, then came the Enhanced Edition and now Good Old Games.com and the console port.Keep it up, make a great sequel and you'll definitely be 'up there'.
Besides, on The Escapist(which are the closest to PC Elitism as far as websites I visit go.) pretty much everybody is a big CD-PROJEKT fanboy. The only people who 'don't know' are console players and hopefully this game will change that.
Guibs @ Dec 2nd 2008 11:56AM
Funny, I just bought myself a copy of the witcher Enhanced edition off Ebay (because it's like impossible to find right now in Canada). I got a new PC a few months ago and the demo played very well with all settings to max.
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Dec 2nd 2008 11:57AM
I'll give this game a try, I heard good things about it so I'm glad(and also find it sorta hilarious) that it's coming to consoles.
Spallit @ Dec 2nd 2008 12:11PM
The more people that get to play this game, the better. However, I don't see some of the mature themes in the story making it over to consoles completely unscathed.
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Dec 2nd 2008 12:48PM
"I don't see some of the mature themes in the story making it over to consoles completely unscathed."
umm why? Since it will be M rated(unless I'm wrong and the console versions will be rated T), I don't think the developers will have to worry about changing any of the mature themes when it comes to consoles.
Snowblind @ Dec 2nd 2008 12:31PM
The PC version wouldn't work on Vista at all, until recently, and I haven't bothered to download the epic patch that fixes everything up..
I considered just buying the enhanced version, but decided to just wait for the console release. Really looking forward to finally being able to play it.
Archon @ Dec 2nd 2008 12:53PM
The all-fixing patch IS the Enchanced Version in disguise. Adds quest editor, improved graphics, new quests, yadayadayada...
Shagittarius @ Dec 2nd 2008 12:54PM
I played the game as it originally shipped in Vista. All you had to do was select a 3:4 resolution to launch the game the first time. After that it worked fine.
agentflashx @ Dec 2nd 2008 12:55PM
This is awesome news!
I have been wanting to play the Witcher but because my computer isn't quite up to the speed I haven't done so.
This will let me play it in all its glory! W00t! Great news, can't wait!
Alien Lord @ Dec 2nd 2008 2:21PM
Now that I can get this on 360 I'll give it a try, I wouldn't even consider it while on PC, I FUCKING HATE K/B+M INTERFACE!
Chin-Poh @ Dec 2nd 2008 5:17PM
Even for first person shooters?
blindfromthesun @ Dec 2nd 2008 8:12PM
The mouse and keyboard controls for FPS might be superior however I would argue they are too easy. "Realistically" I don't think any person, fictional or not has the kind of accuracy that even an average FPS with mouse and keyboard is able to pull off. I don't have a problem with mouse and keyboard controls but they are restricting, old school and already stated, easy.
Kassu @ Dec 2nd 2008 6:31PM
So, us, the PC gamers, got the "Enhanced Edition" and now they're throwing another "Enhanced" in for the console players?
Nice bitchslap right there.
blindfromthesun @ Dec 2nd 2008 8:30PM
How so? Usually the PC version of any console "port" is superior. If you have to have the very best version than I suppose the console is the version of choice. Obviously the controls need to be reworked, however, what is the problem with the console getting the better version? Fallout 3, GTA IV, Far Cry 2 are all graphically superior or "enhanced" over the console versions. Get over it.
