I'm with otimus. I'm not paying $60 for what is essentially a multi-player only game. It's a shame because it sounds cool and all, but I've been pressured by friends to buy games before for multii-player and we always play for like two weeks before moving on to something else. It's just not even worth renting in my opinion. Most of my friends have already stopped playing.
A $40 price tag would have had me seriously considering it.

Just thought I'd point out that yes Portal is, essentially, a glorified mod. There's no doubt it's an absolutely amazing game, but it also retailed for $20.
I think at $35-40 L4D would have been perfect. I'll definitely pick it up once they drop the price.

I'm playing both, Gears 2 and W@W, and enjoying both... but all my close former CoD4 brothers are split. The Gears Multiplayer is just too out right favortistic towards host, and W@W doesn't have the same edge and appeal that CoD4 had for a lot of CoD4 players.
I also had a few conversations where people were gonna buy the cheapened Halo3 maps and start playing it again for the fresh achievements. Guess we will see.

I picked up Gears 2 and loved the first. I haven't been able to play online yet because it is broken. Haven't tried in two weeks but now I'm just so disappointed in it that maybe I'll wait until after Fallout 3 is done, which will be a while.
I couldn't even play co-op with anybody. Also Left 4 Dead really seems like a budget title to me. It is pretty fun, but definately feels like a glorified mod imo. At least it works though.

Gears 2 matchmaking STILL sucks even after the update. Wait a minute to find players...wait 5 minutes to find another team...oh the rest of your team dropped due to the wait....find more players....get a match that takes 5 minutes after a 15 minute wait.

that is odd, I havent even played Halo 3 online since that update came out. I didnt like the playlist changes or the stat stuff, and worst of all it seemed like they really cranked up the auto aim

As Gears 2 came out, it stole players from many of the other top games, decreasing the population of all, and increasing the population for Gears. However, the population increase for Gears 2 wasn't quite enough.
Basically, Gears of War 2 took out Halo 3's competition then committed suicide, lol.
