Well, we certainly didn't see this coming. Gears of War 2 is finally on store shelves, and who do we see at the top of the Xbox Live play time pile? Master Chief. No, seriously! Halo 3 took the top of a list rounded out by Gears 2, Call of Duty: World at War, CoD 4 and GTA IV.
So, we honestly don't have an answer for you on this one, we can't imagine why. We're also flummoxed as to why Left 4 Dead is so darn low. Anyone for some late Tuesday hypothesizing?

Um sorry for the noob question but I don't have a 360 (yet), but what's the difference between Silver and Gold Membership on Live?
Posted: Dec 3rd 2008 8:53AM xGeneral DEATHxDEETH82 said
Silver allows for downloads, patches, and voice chat, but doesn't allow you to play most games online.
Gold allows for everything including online play. Trust me, it's worth $40/$50 per year.

Speaking of L4D where the F**k is the demo?
It's not to be found ANYWHERE, not on steam and not on the net from any demo site. I found this quite strange until someone told me the demo (public11nov) was only on offer until the game was released. What is this bullshit and why has no one reported on it? How did Valve get everyone else to not offer the demo and take it down after the game released?
I mean wtf? I want to try the game before I buy but because I missed a limited time slot of a few weeks I can't and that's it, I just have to buy?? No other game does this.
What's the logic? Is it cos each AI driven level is supposedly all fresh so quite a lot of re-playable gameplay? If so why not just offer the demo with a time expire in-built so it can be grabbed at any time or better yet a number of days use not consecutively.
I've never had to look for a torrent for a DEMO before today.

I can tell you exactly why Gears lost the top spot and will keep falling down.................................
LLLAAAAGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!
The game is seriously unplayable in its current form sometimes. I can almost count to 2 before my shotgun actually fires after i press right trigger in some matches.
I have completely given up on Gears 2 multiplayer.

Bought L4D on release day, and have been playing the bejeezus out of it ever since. I suppose I've gotten more into co-op in the last few years, seeing as how Halo became a N00b Cannon tortoise race.

I figured this is what would happen.
Both the CoD and Gears franchises had their userbase segmented due to a newer game being out that is worse than the original. So, many people moved on just because it's a newer game that they figured would be better, but many also went back to the original (CoD4 and Gears 1) because it was better.
Although, with Gears 1 vs. Gears 2 it's not so much a matter of "better" as it is with "completely different", because Gears 1 and Gears 2 play COMPLETELY differently to the point where aside from the character models and such, they don't really even feel like the same franchise when playing multiplayer. Gears 1 was all about in your face shotgun battles, whereas Gears 2 is all about mid-range machinegun battles.
Yet, dolty fanboys who never played either much still make the stupid "Gears 1.5" comments. I WISH Gears 2 were Gears 1.5. Sadly, it's not.

Halo 3 is the ultimate fallback game because Bungie keeps it fresh.
1) Dominant COD crowd is now split between WaW and 4:MW
2) Gears 2 matchmaking was broken. It drove me away after the single player and some Horde runs. I have not tried the patch yet, maybe it will get bumped to 1 next week.
3)Halo had some reportedly really fun gametypes up over the Thanksgiving break.*
The price reduction for the map pack may help Halo 3 stay on top, but those who wanted it already have it. I think those that were holding out were prob waiting until its free.
*I wouldn't know if they were fun, I was too busy playing Left 4 Dead too. Definetly the best, and should be higher...at least higher than that horrid GTA 4 multiplayer. I didn't expect Fable 2 to have such staying power, but then again Fable is still played on the original Xbox.

It's simple. L4D is great, but 60 bucks is still a lot of dough, particularly at this point during these times. As much as I loved my experience playing it, it didn't warrent almost a day's pay.
Halo 3 has been selling for $30 at a lot of places lately with sales sometimes around $25. I don't even like Halo anymore and still seriously thought about picking it up but opted for BioShock. Yeah, I'm poor, I wait long times for games to drop in price before buying.
When the f*ck is COD4 gonna drop to $30?!

Left 4 Dead isn't high on the list because alot of people are still apprehensive about buying into a game where it's solely co-op based gameplay. The lack of a Deathmatch mode or a real story keeps alot of people from buying the game. I try to tell them that if they'd give it a shot, they'd love it, but not many people bite. I don't believe it has anything to do with "Left 4 Dead players being PC Gamers". I think it has more to do with the fact that people don't want to play a game like Left 4 Dead with strangers, therefore limiting the amount of XBL play the game sees.
I'm not complaining though. It's everyone elses loss. They just don't know what they are missing. As a testament to the drawing power of the game once you've played it, I was the only person on the staff at my work that got the game the day it came out. I talked one other guy into getting it a couple days later and from there it spread like wildfire. Now an entire staff of 8 people, 6 of which said they weren't going to get the game, now have it and we play it everyday.

GoW2 is dieing because of the broken matchmaking. When you end up watching the matchmaking process longer then PLAYING the match there is something wrong. And I love how you have to wait 20 seconds after the match to then wait another 2 to 4 mins for another match. WTF is that all about.. At least in Horde there isn't lag and the game starts up pretty quick. But the other modes need some serious work. Maybe having 10 people in a match is just too much for the engine..

Another reason could be because of the announcement of the Recon Armor you can unlock in Halo 3:ODST (formerly known as RECON). Some people might be trying to get the vidmaster achievements (i.e. rank of Lieutenant). That's one thing that almost drew me back to the game

Triptophan. Turkey-induced coma took out the competition. And we all know Halo players don't eat turkey as it is neither A)Cheetos or B)Energy Drink.

I really want to play Left4Dead, but the idea of paying full price for one online only game turns my stomach considering I just bought The Orage Box for $20.

the reason why halo 3 is on top is because all those kids that got an xbox 360 during black friday. 360 is synonymous with halo and probably sold pretty well. these figures wont impact game sales tho because most of them will be used copies.

I don't think many of you play Gears2, since you don't realize that the online is a crappy laggy glitch fest. They also screwed with all the weapons and made everything inconsistent now. Most people are playing Call of Duty, L4D, or went back to Gears 1. Its sad really.
tl:dr Gears 2 sucks, thats why

I am so glad GOW2 is flopping in terms on online players.
Cliffy and co thought they could get away with releasing crap to the masses.
The online reviewers gave them a free pass "great single player" "great co-op" "Horde mode is great".
They forgot to mention the mode you'd spend most of your time on *Vs multiplayer* was so poorly made.
GOW1 managed to hold the top spot for how long? Oh well I guess there is GOW3 lol
