Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 announced

That's right kiddos, Activision's hugely successful Call of Duty franchise is spawning another sequel limb with today's semi-official announcement that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is in development and set for release Fall 2009.

The announcement comes from a Microsoft sponsored Massive Inc. upfront where publishers showcase and talk about upcoming products to lineup advertisers prior to release. Activision didn't have any specifics to announce regarding the title, other than the fact that we'll be receiving a second helping of Modern Warfare late next year.

Anyone beyond excited for more CoD, especially a sequel to CoD4 which is arguably the best of the franchise?

My problem with Call of Duty 4 and World at war is that the online multiplayer tricks the gamer; it allows them to get about 5 or 6 kills so they aren't annoyed at there pathetic gaming and also kills come so easily.

Infinity ward please make it take at least some skill to win at your game.

Actually the second Halo 3 is ODST so Activision has every right to make a second Modern Warfare.

Ease up on halo, halo is a game of the past, for little girls and boys who want to jump around in little red and blue jumpsuites, jumping 20 feet in the air, shootin 50 rounds into each other trying to get a kill. Call Of Duty is bringing the reality of war to video games, chaos, confusion, next thing you know your dead. unless you adapt and survive. Call Of Duty is the start or the future of warfare games, next thing you know they'll be teaching us how survive in war through videos games. Halo was good once apon a time but they need to step it up, to keep up. And Just one more thing to top it off, all the halo fans saying that call of duty MW is for girls and takes no skill to be good at never played CODMW for more then 5 minutes because they couldn't see their red and blue opponents jumping sky high trying to shoot each other with lasers and needlers. Therefore they weren't successful in getting any kills, because in COD your opponents have camo, and real true to life weapons and kill you with a resonable amount of rounds that would kill a human.

Dammit lsn, Call of duty 4 n' 5 are amazing cause there realistic not like halo or a million other games, when you shoot someone a couple of times he dies cause thats real life, people make these games to know how war is like, i mean you can't get shoot like a 100 times and not die. Normaly if shot with a pistol even once you die! So stop saying COD is bad, and go play your unrealistic games.
Plus i am sure everyone agrees that the graphics in COD are unlike any other game, even better than Crises!
( Not offending Halo fans, cause it will be like offending every game before COD )

cod4 was a good games, but some players where reuning it by camping, trowing grenades everywhere and by playing dirty.

I'm saddened by this. I was hoping for a futuristic call of duty. This makes me unhappy.

CoD is about real wars not sci-fi , futuristic shit.

Rafael, call of duty began with World War II and later made the one with the present world. So whats wrong with a call of duty in the futuristic settings. I would like to see a call of duty with post-apocalyptic setting where nation fight each other for world domination.

Call of Duty can bring it. I can't wait on this one. Best of the serious was definately Modern Warfare in my opinion. Unlike World at War which I bypassed this is on my preorder list.

World at war is the exact same quality as Modern warfare (they both extremely suck)

My favourites were Call of Duty 2 and 3 (3 for the epic online and 2 for bringing some originality to the game)

And I'm not great with algebra, do we add the two numbers together, multiply or is it some form exponential equation? CoD4:Modern Warfare 2 == CoD6? CoD8? CoD16?????

Agreed. InfinityWard makes the best COD games.

COD4 was the best by far. W@W is okay and a MAJOR improvement over COD3 but InfinityWard makes much better games.

its just different, you only think tis worse because its set in the past so the guns are worse making tha game harder, becuase tbh cod4 was to easy, the campaign and online, but WAW is a bit more challanging, and the people that cant take a challange or just wont take the time to get better at the game will just think its rubbish, i prefer WAW to MW

Call of Duty 4 was one of my favorite games so I can't wait for the second one!

CoD1 - Never played it
CoD2 - LOVED IT
CoD3 - Massive disappointment on Christmas morning
CoD4 - Fun at first, lost interest quickly
CoD5 - Played the Beta and couldn't believe how horrible it was.

I don't think I'll be checking this one out unless the game gets more balanced... Get rid of the stupid perks, make the snipers worth using, up the player health... Then maybe I'll check it out.

Sorry, I worded that kind of funny. What I meant was get rid of perks that boost damage/health, and the ones that are just completely useless.

Oh, and make the game actually playable on LAN. CoD2 was the perfect CoD game. Every game so far has been a massive disappointment for me.

What's with starting out in a multiplayer game where everyone who is already a badass gets the biggest and BEST weapons while you come out of the loading screen with spitballs?

The better you are, you should be fighting for bragging rights cause you whooped that n00bs ass with a feather duster, not cause you can call in a friggin airstrike 12 seconds into the match.

Halo 3's matchmaking is completely superior.

Ah, the Activision gravy train continues, and the fanboys, given the comments here, will suck it up.

COD4 was stellar in every way, but there is no way I am going to pay for something that reeks of a DLC pack (WAW should have been a $20 pack for COD4).

17, i agree W@W was gay, and infinity ward makes modern warfare and let that other publisher*cant think of the name* use their cod4 engine, this is gonna be awesome, cod4 was better than halo 3 by far, but props to halo 2 for making xbox live for what it is ;)

I cannot friggen wait. I hope they expand on the Multiplayer and make it even better, I know IW can do it, they kick ass.

I really don't see why people are bitching about a sequel. This is great news IMHO.

Wow...actually playing a cowboys and indians could be kinda fun. Firing six shooters from horses, and throwing tomahawks at people to knock them off horses!! Hell, as long as it adds executions via GOW...imagine, a scalping execution or an arrow in the eye socket. But I guess the cowboys couldn't do much in fear of racism though.

Hopefully they have co-op and a longer story mode this time around
