Lionhead 'testing and finalizing' Fable 2 patch

That patch for Fable 2? Lionhead's still on it. In a community forum post, the dev says that the title update designed to exorcise a few naughty bugs from the game is "currently being tested and finalized," although there's still no specific roll-out date.
The patch will address a number of issues, but the ones that most players – and there are a lot of Fable 2 players – have been affected by (namely the Monk's Quest and Bowerstone furniture shop glitches) will thankfully be thoroughly nixed. Lionhead says of the Monk's Quest bug: "This will fix the problem if you've already hit it, too." So, for those who haven't already restarted the game to continue past this point in the main quest, you won't have to. Those visiting the furniture store late in the game will also find that there's more to buy there than ... a single book.
One of the game's more disturbing "issues" – the ability for your character's children to be marked as targets for assassination – is being dealt with, since assassinating children ... it's not so cool. Nine fixes are detailed in the post, although Lionhead says there are many more less common issues addressed by the patch.

On my first playthrough my kid ended up braindead mid-game somehow, he would just stand there and wouldnt acknowledge anything... creepy bugger... wonder if it fixes that from happening also.
Markez @ Dec 3rd 2008 10:29PM
Bad genes are bad genes, pal, sorry :(
XD

:'( I guess I should've picked a better wife then "Betty the Whore" from Bowerstone Old Town...
Zertoss @ Dec 4th 2008 9:25AM
This happened to me, too, but my kid was fixed as soon as I went and talked to Hammer at the bar in Rookridge. I had avoided doing that, because I thought it was going to kick off a quest I wasn't ready to do yet, but it turns out that the quest didn't start until after that.
Doug @ Dec 3rd 2008 7:08PM
Ho do testers not identify these huge glitches before?
Or do they, and they don't have time to fix them...?
Just wondering.
sk8monroe81 @ Dec 3rd 2008 7:33PM
most people have been able to play through the game with little to no problems, however some have experienced game ending glitches....
they dont happen everytime, i dont know the tech or science behind it though....
they pay testers to test the game for these reasons.
Shagittarius @ Dec 3rd 2008 7:08PM
Your children can't be marked for assassination? Isn't that what happened to you and your sister in the begining of the game?
DoctaDJones @ Dec 3rd 2008 11:32PM
They should leave that in. Do I become a 5 star assasin and kill my kid, or become father of the year?
Thats a moral descision Peter would appreciate.
I was a bit miffed when I found I couldn't hit kids or my dog. Not that I wanted to, but it is supposed to be an open world life simulation right?
Leo McKelvin @ Dec 3rd 2008 7:12PM
LOL whre is sk8monroe (sk8rtheht8r) now?
he always say how bad all ps3 game are when launch but if it a 360 game he just ignore! fanboy idiot!
gears 2 & fable 2 launch with lots of bug that make both nearly unplayable. i wish all 360 devs could be like bungie and make the game play perfect from day 1. bungie is best developer in the business imo. molyneaux and cliffyb are most over rated developers on the xbox. they make all the hype and big promise but they game always fall short and are awful.
sk8monroe81 @ Dec 3rd 2008 7:42PM
leo- bungie over kojima/konami productions? or say insomniac or ND.?
i may say things about the ps3, but that doesnt mean i dont give credit to the great games, good developers, and other things i enjoy about my ps3.
heck goto sony.com official forums right now.
my sig says MGS4 was my favorite game this year. it has been that way since i played the game in july.
heck on a few other forums today on joystiq i have given props to MGS and some ps3 things.
damn leo i wasnt even 1 of those downvotes...
nice way to PRE TROLL someone.
you and el serp should get a room and watch porn movies on your new full screen ps3 playback.
leo honestly after completing resistance 1. i enjoyed that game more than gears 1 for many reasons.
1) better, smarter AI
2) longer play time
3) more story and cut scenes
gears 1 was not my favorite 360 game or close.
i agree it was overrated.
heck gears 2 was a disappointing to me. Horde really helps out and makes it better though. towards the end of the game they really were some errors, it seemed rushed, the platforming was annoying, the bosses were a waste of time..
i am waiting to play resistance 2 soon and will probably really enjoy that especially split screen with my gf.
so what are you trying to say exactly??
just stupid leo really...
sk8monroe81 @ Dec 3rd 2008 7:47PM
and btw my fable 2 experiences are about 30 hours so far and I have had my game freeze 1 time.
i did have to turn off the game and i lost my current progress from the last save, but that is all.
of course there are errors sometimes.
but this is an open world game.
its expected. everything cant be perfect. everyone cant do the right thing every time.
heck goto user fallout 3 reviews and see all the glitch complaints.
every open world game has them.
this is not a side scrolling adventure like LBP, or an online only game like socom with no campaign or world.
yes i made comments about LBP and socom issues, however i felt those games should have been more complete from launch.
tmacairjordan87 @ Dec 3rd 2008 7:59PM
What's going on with calling people out on articles recently, before they even do anything? When did this become popular? I was encountered by this too on a wii post I had no intention of even posting in to begin with.
Flame @ Dec 3rd 2008 8:30PM
It's kinda odd how the some of the biggest games of '08 are the biggest fuck ups or disappointments. LBP- deleting user content and online off for a week. Gears 2 - Faulty matchmaking, online multiplayer lags and from some peoples point of view crappy ending. Fallout 3 - by far the biggest glitch-fest ever. Floating bodies ftw. R2 - apparently just a big disappointment with its campaign. After saying these true statements about these games... i still love them. (except for LBP, dont have it)
sk8monroe81 @ Dec 3rd 2008 9:15PM
tmac- it is seriously wierd... wierd people.
that they love some product so much to troll forums before posts are even made.
hybrid trolls nowadays i guess??
flame- yeah its funny for leo to bring up fable 2 issues without even saying fallout 3.
does leo even realize what an open world game is vs. a side scrolling game or a 1 path only game??
In A World (XBL) @ Dec 3rd 2008 11:05PM
I agree with you both, tmac and sk8mon, Joystiq has become quite a hostile environment.
Also, all these damn Paper Mario fanboys totally suck! **waits for reaction**
Leo McKelvin @ Dec 3rd 2008 11:35PM
ha ha
like i is some ps3fanboy. i prefer the 360 for games hands down but the ps3 have lot of good stuff to especially for the way it has media handle and lots of good game. listen to you try convince you are not troll it so funny.
i think bungie is the best dev this gen main becuase they keep the game more fresh than other dev who drop support after a few month. they also release a polish game with no big on day 1. cliffyb and molyneaux can take note because the game they make are awful to me. to much hype and no new to speak of.
Banana Kid @ Dec 3rd 2008 7:19PM
My kid just stands around and never moves, talks, or responds to interactions. So either I need to find him a psychiatrist in Albion, or it's a bug.
fred @ Dec 3rd 2008 8:40PM
He's autistic.
Jerk Face [GT:xJERKFACEx] @ Dec 3rd 2008 7:19PM
I hope The Behemoth is taking notes.
AoE @ Dec 3rd 2008 9:44PM
No, they're too busy working on a new round of action figures.
Markez @ Dec 3rd 2008 10:31PM
Oh hey sweet, I'll send you my gamertag and we can play online with Cast--
Ahh christ nevermind.
The Dark Wayne @ Dec 3rd 2008 7:36PM
wasn't your family being assassinated part of the main plot?
LaughingTarget @ Dec 3rd 2008 8:58PM
That's not it, you can get an assassination quest to kill your own kid. Tends to be a problem as kids don't die.
Dirty @ Dec 4th 2008 9:53AM
Yea I got the assassination of my own kid quest, but it was a baby.... in a cradle...outside.
Spartacus @ Dec 3rd 2008 7:43PM
LOL. I always wondered what the heck was up with the furniture shop! I thought it was just always sold out...
AoE @ Dec 3rd 2008 9:40PM
hey, for the graphic... I assume you're doing double band-aids since Kotaku does a single band-aid? How about going with a cloth patch, the sort one would use with ripped jeans, instead of competing on the band-aid front? That would be more creative and less bitey :)
Shmil @ Dec 3rd 2008 9:45PM
or an eyepatch since eyepatches, like most patches, make things cooler/better
Misfit Toy @ Dec 3rd 2008 10:32PM
I've been holding off playing this game because I want to give it a good bit of time on its own. I think I'll just wait for the patch to be done and then go at it anew.
Premature ejaculation man @ Dec 3rd 2008 11:14PM
SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!
Was anyone disatisfied with the ending? Did I do it wrong? All I did was shoot the guy and then WEEEEEEE I win!
Was I supposed to do something else? =(
[/spoilers]
YAY PATCH
LaughingTarget @ Dec 4th 2008 6:10AM
Did you remember to say Klaatu Barada Nikto?
Snowblind @ Dec 4th 2008 9:39AM
Hint: Don't shoot him. It's far more amusing that way.
