Puzzling through Sony's reasons for throwing money at PlayStation Home is not a task for weak of heart, but for long, sleepless hours spent burning the midnight oil. Thankfully we now have Red Bull, the online service's first major third-party partner, on tap to help energize our search for enlightenment.
Details remain scant, though UK site Brand Republic notes that the energy drink company will have its own caffeinated island space in Home featuring "an aeroplane racing game based on Red Bull's real world Red Bull Air Race series." As Home does anything but race to release, we can't help but wonder if someday we'll take in Sony's advertisement-laden virtual landscape from the air, rather than while wandering aimlessly on the ground.

It is if you have no friends, and just wander around stalking people. However we all have friends, and regularly meet up in home.

Dude, he's right, it is boring right now. Sure you can chat with your friends, but you can do that outside of home. Hell, you can conference 6 of 'em with the PS3 chat feature that's been there since day one if you're so inclined!
There are cool features, and I see the potential, but as I said later in this thread...until they turn on those features, however buggy, on it's just a reduced version of second life.

I don't walk around stalking people. I don't have time for that. I'm just not into having an interactive MySpace experience. If I want to play effin Warhawk, then I'll start Warhawk up and find a game. I refuse to login to Home, find some person walking around, strike up a "conversation," and then go play Warhawk. It's really gimmicky. And, I'm PISSED that bowling is so effin crowded!!! Epic FAIL...open more lanes!!!

Seriously, when is Home supposed to be released? I thought it was in November, and then moved to December. Do we not have a solid release date yet? I haven't been able to keep up with it.

this is my favorite part of the announcement...
http://www.brandrepublic.com/News/MostRead/866365/Red-Bull-becomes-first-brand-PlayStation-Home/
"Sony has set up Home so that gamers and brands can "generate significant revenues", but has not revealed details of brands it is working with.
"Generate Significant Revenues"? how? selling virtual Red Bulls? how are they going to do this inside a free game? I can't believe Sony got Red Bull to drink their Home Kool Aid and throw $$ down a hole.

RedBull say good bye to those dollars as your never going to see them again after throwing them into that bottomless pit.

A bottomless pit doesn't sound that bad once you realize you can never hit rock bottom. Just saying.

After wandering around the Beta I can see the potential. The private clubs could almost act like ventrilo channels on the PC, but with the added bonus of coordinating game launches and other functions. But why do I only see the potential you (didn't) ask?
Because they threw the off switch on any interesting feature other than wandering around. You can see all the things they plan, and they look cool, but damned if I can fulfill the role of a beta tester and use them.

I agree...the only potentially fun thing to do right now is play pool and bowling, which you're lucky if you can even get in a game. The only point of a Beta seems to be a stress test for the Sony servers...oh that's exciting. I think I see why this has been so delayed; somebody at Sony probably realized, "Oh, this actually isn't as cool as we thought. Maybe we can blame it on Phil Harrison?"

How long can you burn the midnight oil before it's no longer the midnight oil? Is there a 1 AM oil?
OK, oil no longer sounds like a word.
