Sony looks to expand Qore audience with free episode on Dec. 4

While Nintendo's lack of focus on its core audience is affecting one publication adversely, Sony's focusing on building its audience for Qore by offering the seventh episode of the Future US-produced digital magazine free of charge via the PlayStation Store. The episode will be available tomorrow, Thursday, Dec. 4.
The free single-episode offering was announced on the PlayStation Blog, which details its contents, including host Veronica Belmont's visits to EA and Capcom to see Skate 2, Bionic Commando, and Flock, respectively. This episode also contains a playable Flock demo for annual subscribers, along with a Killzone 2 theme and "ArQade" game, Blast Qore, available to anyone who downloads it.

Free Veronic Belmont on my 1080p TV?! Best gift ever!
Misfit Toy @ Dec 3rd 2008 10:36PM
I'll try free, though this episode doesn't look like it will entice me into a subscription.
Pedobear @ Dec 3rd 2008 10:59PM
I don't see why someone would pay for this Qore stuff. If it was all free I might watch it but I'm not going to pay to watch video game news.
Fx.Dr @ Dec 3rd 2008 11:55PM
Agreed. A whopping *one* episode has interested me so far - the one with Veronica Belmont in a mo-cap suit.
Veronica Belmont + hi-def = FAP FAP FAP. You can't argue with the math here, people.
Haggard @ Dec 4th 2008 2:58AM
More importantly, would you pay for video games news written, produced and directed by Sony?
I mean, they're not exactly gonna mention gears 2..
borland502 (SDF Macross) @ Dec 4th 2008 7:34AM
Dunno, I haven't regretted the annual purchase. It's advertising sure, but it's not unlike say Nintendo Power in the days of yore. The Qore ladies are eye candy to be sure, but it's nice seeing all the current games in a good HD resolution.
Free trailers you say? True. But the features they do, slanted as they are towards Sony, are at least amusing enough to constitute a few buck's added value.
Wiinterfang @ Dec 3rd 2008 11:08PM
Thanks but no Thanks, Joystiq is the one that satisfied my needs.
Leo McKelvin @ Dec 3rd 2008 11:19PM
qore is dumb. good concept but not enuf content per episode to make me buy a season pass.
James @ Dec 3rd 2008 11:27PM
Using my Qore code from the PS magazine (yeah I wrote it down and used it baby) I don't understand why anyone would buy it other then for the betas.. and so far the beta's timing has been awful.
But if there were things like exclusive chat with game developers, people like Ted Price from Insomniac or someone else I'd be really interested in it, but I'm not going to be paying that much for a couple of crappy reports and late betas.
Osman @ Dec 3rd 2008 11:32PM
so they want to expand their Qore's core audience

I have it...its not worth it, specially since we haven't gotten Home invites yet. You are basically paying Sony to advertise games for you. Although, I am expecting some access to earlier content down the road.
atrimus @ Dec 4th 2008 12:44AM
aw, i'm sorry. i got a Home invite about two weeks ago and i've never entertained the thought of purchasing Qore. it's not like you're missing much though...on the Home front.

HEY JOYSTIQ STAFF!
Sorry to shout, but i need you tell you this:
Please don't use the word "hardcore" in any story titles, as its blocked by many a filter list in work, our firewall flagged me up, dammit.
I can't even comment in that Wii story, so am here.
Foetoid @ Dec 4th 2008 7:18AM

Does it also block you if someone uses the word Hardcore in a comment?

"The first sign of a homosexual is phobia"
Nah, pure myth and wishful thinking. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar, and a dick poster is just a dick: No mystery, no closet queer.

I sympathize [Wet Horny Teens] with your [Cialis, Viagra] predicament. Hopefully you don't get in [Girls Live Cam Cum!] trouble for anything.
Joystiq: Use HardQore so [erotic pics] it doesn't trip work filters.

Belmont is NOT sexy. She is a dumb little dingbat that panders to her interviewees. Qore is slow pitch media at it's worst, and she's the pitcher.
No no.... that's being generous. This is t-ball, and somehow she stands on the mound looking important.
Give me Chobot over this any day.
jj @ Dec 4th 2008 3:46PM
Seems odd to crow about the great PS3 free online service (compared to the paid Live Gold) when they pull this - paying for this annually is half way to a Gold subscription on 360. But they give you lots of videos on upcoming games etc for free, even in Silver. I have both systems, but I pay for Gold, and not for Qore (which should be part of their qore offering - geez now you have me doing it!).
Bluebrake @ Dec 6th 2008 1:35PM
Well, I think the key difference is that Qore is completely optional. The PS Store still offers plenty of free videos and demos for games, just like XBL.
That said, this free episode convinced me that I would never, ever pay for Qore. I can get the same quality of information from a dozen other non-biased sources for free online or on TV. They're asking us to pay the cost of a movie rental for the privilege of watching 30 minutes of advertisements. I suppose that might be ok with some people, but what really surprised me was the advertising for completely unrelated things like the US Army. That's just uncalled for.
It's a competent production and all, but I wouldn't watch this if it were free. Bring a fee into the mix and it might as well not exist to me.
