LBP is a pretty cool game. Had some time with it the other day.
Jcarpio @ Dec 3rd 2008 11:07AM
Yeah.. still not biting.
The Aggie CEO @ Dec 3rd 2008 11:08AM
damn......wish I had known about this last week.....this is a better deal than the PS3 Bundle Best buy had on Black Friday........my mother in law got one from there for my brother in law.....oh well....he'll be fine.....
Zingerhill @ Dec 3rd 2008 11:24AM
I'd really like to play LBP. I was thinking about this, but $500 is still really a lot to pay for a console. I paid $350 for the Xbox about a year after it came out. It's hard to justify this much for a console especially given how cheap BluRay players are now.
Cellien @ Dec 3rd 2008 11:50AM
Plus, being an owner of LBP, I can assure you it's still not worth the plunge (if you are already not sure about getting a PS3 that is.) I like the PS3, but I have to admit I still only use it as a Blu-Ray player. LBP was a major letdown to me. It was one of the main reasons I bought a PS3. Still holding out for KZ2 though. :)
The Aggie CEO @ Dec 3rd 2008 11:51AM
really??? how cheap is a 2.0 profile blu-ray player that is 3.0 profile ready?? and oh yea.....has BD load times as fast as the PS3......
Zingerhill @ Dec 3rd 2008 1:10PM
@Aggie
I was looking at the Samsung BD-P1500 for $200 and LG BD300 (w/Netflix) for $300. As good as a PS3 for Blu Ray? Probably not, but a lot cheaper. Plus I can use my universal remote and I don't really have a need for BD Live. 3.0 is even more useless.
sk8monroe81 @ Dec 3rd 2008 1:43PM
aggie- bd live- get real thats been worthless...
and btw blu ray players are pretty much on clearance sales this holiday. blu ray just hasnt been a driving force sales wise.
$ 30 HD movies people are not buying.
cellien- im with you there...
just not as many top quality titles to play.
mine collects more dust than my 360.
i refuse to buy ONLINE cross platform games on the ps3 when i own a 360 with superior online play.
el serpiente @ Dec 3rd 2008 2:20PM
You've gotta be some kind of dumb if you are paying $30 for blu-ray discs.
sk8monroe81 @ Dec 3rd 2008 2:47PM
el serp- exactly.. thats why blu ray movies are not selling very well and that is why you are seeing blu ray movie blowouts now for the holidays.
$ 15 - $ 25 blu ray movies.
however, almost every major movie release since blu rays existence has been released at $ 30, while the dvd version ( which looks great upconverted) MSRP is $ 15.
im not buying blu rays, your not, not many people are.
thanks for agreeing with me for once.
even if its in your way of explaining it.. lol.
Sheppy (of the Fidlious Clan of Wong) @ Dec 3rd 2008 6:45PM
I wonder where you are getting your numbers from Sk8ermonroe.
I ask because anyone who worked retail or even does an ounce of research knows your figures are full of shit. $15 MSRP for DVDs you say? Nice try. ACTUAL MSRP for DVDs range from $24.99 to $29.99. It's just that, aside from locations like Sam Goody and Musicland, nobody is stupid enough to sell at MSRP. Meanwhile, what is a bit TOO common a practice, especially at places like Best Buy and Borders is that most of the time they DO sell BluRay at MSRP and in many cases, $5 more. Take the BluRay release of Run Lola Run. I got an email from the publisher bragging on the $19.99 MSRP for the release. Come to see everywhere including "Best Buy" listing the movie at $24.99. The only company truly selling at MSRP for the movie was Amazan. Of course you could demand proof and I have some for you. Amazon is the only company that uses List Price which is also known as MSRP. Let's look at Iron Man...
http://www.amazon.com/Iron-Man-Single-Disc-Robert-Downey/dp/B001C08RHA/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1228347417&sr=8-1
Holy Shit! $34.99! Believe it or not, yes that's the actual MSRP. Cost to a store is usually between $15-$16. So these $15 DVDs are losing companies money but getting you in the door. Meanwhile a $20 DVD cuts em about even when you consider cost of operation.
Also, why were you seeing BluRay blowouts? To get you in the door. They were called Door Buster deals. Using your logic, we can assume all the consoles are failing and DVD is dead considering I was snagging $1-$2 DVDs at Walmart on Black Friday.
In other words, BluRay isn't getting the same bargains as DVDs are. Stores are getting greedy because the niche have this concept of luxury that they willingly exploit. Fact of the matter is, to stores, BluRays are usually only a couple dollars more to stock than DVDs. But the BluRay consumers as a whole aren't pushing the price issue and they've been taking advantage of everyone. The smart BluRay shoppers have been paying only a small amount more for the BluRay versions.
sk8monroe81 @ Dec 3rd 2008 10:20PM
sheppy wow you are wrong once again.
its funny these paragraph replies you make every time you make a comment.
you just cant get it out easily.
amazon list price is not MSRP.
amazon list price is amazon list price. they have clearly defined it.
MSRP is MSRP. its clearly defined.
amazon has been accused of inflating list prices by many customers recently.
garmin GPS gold box deal yesterday list price $ 600, amazon selling for $ 120.
while garmin.com list price was $ 400.
get your crap straight before writing a book to back you nonsense up.
most major retailer weekly ad shows new dvd's selling for $ 5 - $ 20, while the same weekly ads show blu rays at $ 15 - $ 35.
amazon.com
tropic thunder.
dvd = $ 15, blu ray = $ 27....
hmm thats about twice as much...
its not about MSRP or list price anyway, but more about what stores are selling the items for.
dvd's cost us a lot less to purchase. thats a fact.
now lets see you spin this off in another direction...
sk8monroe81 @ Dec 3rd 2008 10:23PM
i only made the mistake of saying MSRP instead of actual selling price.
but for you to say that a dvd version of run lola run costs $ 20 is a joke....
cuso26 @ Dec 3rd 2008 11:27AM
I'm not seeing these Wii-related Gold Box deals today - they're all watches from what I'm seeing. Where are you getting this Ross?
blue ocarina @ Dec 3rd 2008 12:33PM
according to CAG (via an amazon email), the Wii GoldBox event is tomorrow (12/4)
Snowman @ Dec 3rd 2008 11:48AM
Yeah....Goldbox deals are not wii related today best i can tell either.
Eh @ Dec 3rd 2008 12:13PM
Maybe it would be a good idea for Sony to stop giving away system selling games for free?
Kodros @ Dec 3rd 2008 12:28PM
Ok, but if a person picked this up because of this deal, wouldn't LBP have served it's purpose as a system seller =)
KobeBryunt @ Dec 3rd 2008 12:29PM
System selling? Last time I checked this game flopped
sk8monroe81 @ Dec 3rd 2008 1:48PM
Eh- what do you consider system selling?? haha..
this is holiday season and we all saw the article 360 trumps ps3 sales 3-1.
now how did LBP help to sell consoles??
more people who already had a ps3 bought the game.
now halo 3 was system selling.
8 million copies sold to 16 million xbox customers.
thats a system seller.
gran turismo 4, MGS series, tekken, final fantasy, & gta were sony system sellers. the last 3 however are not exclusive anymore and wont really count as ps3 system sellers. (well ff13 versus will sell consoles)
chispito @ Dec 3rd 2008 3:01PM
Pretty sure it's Amazon, not Sony, that put the bundle together.
Kodros @ Dec 4th 2008 1:04PM
"this is holiday season and we all saw the article 360 trumps ps3 sales 3-1."
Correct me if I'm wrong, but those numbers were given by Microsoft.
patagonia @ Dec 3rd 2008 12:14PM
PS3 for $323! (via slickdeals)
Dell Home has Playstation 3 80GB Console for $400 - 15% coupon CTV2$2HX963145 - 5% coupon TP5NV0VMFJ9BCZ = $323 ($313 with DPA) with free shipping.
They also have Playstation 3 80GB Gaming Console w/ Far Cry 2 Game $460 - 15% off coupon CTV2$2HX963145 - 5% coupon TP5NV0VMFJ9BCZ = $371 ($360 with DPA)
KobeBryunt @ Dec 3rd 2008 12:23PM
It's still 200 more than am willing to pay
el serpiente @ Dec 3rd 2008 12:54PM
Save your money for spelling lessons.
kobebryunt @ Dec 3rd 2008 1:44PM
It's not always easy writing from an iphone dumb tard
sk8monroe81 @ Dec 3rd 2008 1:52PM
yeah $ 500 for a ps3 is still steep,
take away this 1 day amazon deal with LBP.
$ 500 for a ps3 with uncharted ($ 30 value on this game now over 1 year after release)
( maybe sony wanted to keep that high $ 60 price point to show the ""value"" in this bundle)
so its about $ 470 for a 120gb ps3.
so im paying $ 70 for 40gb of space??
and + there is NO BC feature.
i have played quite a few ps2 games on my ps3, especially since they continue to release quality ps2 titles.
now the ps3 can be upgraded with any HDD,
why do we need to pay $ 70 for 40gb of space, when 80gb is more than enough for the average gamer.
this bundle is no deal.
(well the 1 day amazon sale with LBP helps out a lot)
sk8monroe81 @ Dec 3rd 2008 1:54PM
i was more happy paying $ 400 for my 80gb ps3 over 1 year ago with BC, 4 usb slots, and the 5 free movies.
(IMO)
sk8monroe81 @ Dec 3rd 2008 2:52PM
$ 500 for a 120gb ps3 console.
$ 300 for a 120gb 360 made yourself (arcade + add on)
do the math.
most gamers dont want to pay $ 200 for a web browser, wifi, and HOME.
most parents arent going to do that either.
still the ps3 is worth $ 500 because it costs more than that for sony to produce.
so they are not overcharging us, however they are not going to sell as many ps3's as they want at those prices.
sk8monroe81 @ Dec 3rd 2008 2:59PM
+ the 360 comes with accessories that WE actually need/want to play HD games..
HDMI cable, HD component cable, gaming/chat headset, BC,
the 360 and wii are obviously the better choice for a parent shopping this holiday season.
and the 360 has been the better choice for my adult gaming habits too.
and parents are who buys millions of consoles every year for their kids.
el serpiente @ Dec 3rd 2008 4:35PM
Wow, sk8rh8r, you seem to feel very strongly about this, please tell us more...
343 Guilty Fart @ Dec 3rd 2008 12:50PM
If they still made them with backwards compatability this would be an amazing deal. I'm really glad I got the MGS4 bundle while it was still in stock.
Inspace2020 @ Dec 3rd 2008 1:00PM
Dammit...this is a SWEET deal...if I already didn't have a PS3...Uncharted is effing sick game...probably one of the most underrated of last year...and LBP is probably one of favorite games of all time...yeah seriously and I've been gaming for 20 years.
And as far a LBP flopping...if selling over 1 Million units in a couple weeks a flop...then yeah I guess it did...talk to me in the spring when its at 3M
Alien Lord @ Dec 3rd 2008 1:29PM
Shit Amazon must be desperate to unload PS3s and LBP copies.
Grailx3 @ Dec 3rd 2008 1:35PM
If this was offered in Canada I would buy it without hesitation.
joeymoto @ Dec 3rd 2008 2:00PM
Tbh, I think the main reason that LBP didn't sell as well as expected was that it was simply released in an awkward time of the year. If they had released it a couple of months earlier, it would easily have sold like hotcakes because of the summer games drought.
Mmmmmmmm.. Hotcakes
chispito @ Dec 3rd 2008 3:02PM
Wake me up when Team Ico's next game is bundled with my $300, backwards-compatible PS3.
Nytemare @ Dec 3rd 2008 3:44PM
Little Big Planet is an awesome game. (Coming from a guy who plays RPG's most of the time)
It's not a console seller unless you plan on playing with friends. There is plenty of play time, but there is much much more re-playability if you play with friends.
Other than that, and Metal Gear Solid 4(obviously only if you're a fan) Nothing else really stands out on the PS3 to me.
Huh? Whose there @ Dec 3rd 2008 4:46PM
Why does everyone care so much about BC. How many times have you honestly ever used it especially 2-3 years into a consoles lifespan. Its only since the advent of the PS2 that we have even had BC.
chispito @ Dec 3rd 2008 4:52PM
I have not one, but two SNESes. One is a mini that I actually hook up to the TV when I want to play some of my favorite games of all time. The other is the standard unit and I keep it around "just in case."
(01) @ Dec 3rd 2008 5:43PM
I'm still going with the Sony CC (PS3 for $250) and buy:
Fable
Ratchet and Clank Future Tools...
Hevenly Sword
TDK and
Wall-E
all for ~$100/$125. Still cheaper :-)
