It's hard to really call video game designers celebrities. Sure, most of the people reading the Joystiq network can tell you who Shigeru Miyamoto is, but his isn't exactly a household name. There is, however, at least one game designer who acts like a celebrity, and that's Cliff "Formerly CliffyB" Bleszinski, designer of the Gears of War series. Like many celebrities, it seems Cliff is willing to share his thoughts on any subject, even voting. Sarcastic Gamer has had enough, and has created the parody "Silence CliffyB," which sends up Cliff's constant quips.
That's not important though. What is important is that the video also sends up the various gaming outlets and blogs that cover Cliff's shenanigans. Specifically, the video shows a snapshot of this very blog. We're totally in a video, and that's awesome. Find the video after the break.
Maybe it's because I'm a Cliff fan-boy, but I don't get it. The video makes fun of covering everything Cliff does - but the video and the site covers... what... Cliff... does...
If you don't care who an industry person likes in an election, or what they eat for breakfast, then don't report it. By doing a video about it, you are just fueling the fire.
It's not the media (or at least the gaming media) that likes to publish Cliff's comments (with the exception of this blog) it's him giving his opinion about things that aren't remotely connected to him.
I'm a regular forum member on the escapist and destinctly remember a thread about Cliff (which was also shown in this video) being a total egotistical arrogant S.O.B; the shear popularity of this thread shows how much he annoys people.
I'm very happy they went back to calling him CliffyB... And I hope that continues... I dont wanna hear his ratty real name, he's an Xbox Dev so a Gamertag is more than enough for me.
And he designs good games. Almost every game the guy has worked on has been fantastic. So we should care about his opinions and ideas on games and gaming in general. Plus, every douchebag on the internet has a blog and they all complain about the things they wanna complain about. Why should he stop just because other people actually syndicate the things he says and report them? Its not Cliff's fault that X3F, Joystiq, Kotaku, whatever gaming site make a big deal out of his opinions. Maybe silence the blogs that report on it.
Personally I don't want to hear anything more about cliffyb or anyone involved with GOW I am STILL po'd about the supposed HUGE release of a game that was gonna blow all the other games out of the water....sure the campaign was great except for the REALLY lame final boss. The Online multi is HORRIBLE!!!! I bought the damn thing for the multi and have not played it for more than 3 days...yes I do check in periodically to see if they fixed it yet...no they haven't...I really did not get my money's worth. Ripped off again by a company that claims to be an industry leader....hmm then why have they had not one but 2 major titles with horrible matchmaking systems....it seems others can get it right....fail Epic....EPIC Fail!
If you played through the single player once on Insane then you got your moneys worth.
Think about every crappy film you have been to the cinema to see. Take 3 of them, plus the overpriced popcorn and drinks and then tell me that GOW2 only equates to that.

The internet just gives you too big a forum to complain. I know I personally got my moneys worth the first day i recieved the game and spent 18 hrs non stop playing it, for the price its the cheapest form of visual entertainment there is, as are most games.
Take some time to think of all the things that are incredible about this game and ask again if the price is warranted, for me its a steal.
Everyone will have a different opinion on whether they got their money's worth.
Some people are multiplayer enthusiasts or can only afford a couple games a year and they expect them to last many many hours.
I agree that the multiplayer is very bad. It is so wrecked that I don't even know if patches can fix it. The simplicity of online play results in no replay value of the game. Oh boy, B button I win!
I love Gears, but I agree that Cliff talks too much. I already have real celebrities shoving all their opinions down my throat. The last place I want it is in my games too.
Seriously....I blew throught the campaign in 9 hours....with a break for dinner....Everyone knows that the multiplayer was supposed to be one of if not the BIGGEST selling point of this game...and I did not get that...yet. I mean they wonder why titles like halo 3 endure and COD continue to top the xlive charts...it's because they they are playable....if any of you think you got what you paid for good for you but I bought the game due to the fact that they touted the multiplayer so much, as if it was gonna be the next online phenomenon but alas I was LIED to....they sold me a faulty product and what's worse is they had to know it was faulty...I mean they did play test it didn't they? Why do you people think they did not post a beta? You better wake up and realize it was simply because they did not want people to learn that the damn thing did not work....I mean really...accepting this kind of product as great or even OK when they clearly did not deliver on what they purported it to be....HALF OF THE PRODUCT does not work correctly.....as for the internet making it easier to complain.....great...now if everyone would learn what false advertising is and make they're voices or emails heard then maybe we would get games that are not rushed to market.....unfinished! You should be outraged at the fact that you got duped! They claimed to sell you something that they did not. I work for my money....My mommy doesn't buy me everything I want so yeah I get po'd when I don't get what I pay for....and if you had any balls you speak up and say so too, not just capitulate and go with....but the campaign was good....ugh! Morons!! CliffyB if you happen to read this you know I am right and you should be ashamed of yourself!!!!
This video makes me happy. CliffyB needs to close his mouth, no one cares what he has to say, especially his lame gaming philosophical drivel and marketing buzz word trash. He's not even good designer in my book after the disappointing Gears 2 multiplayer.
The song sucks. It is refreshing to have a personality behind the talent. A face and character. I don't agree with half of what he says but I would never want him to stop sharing his thoughts... though I worry he may say something regrettable and can’t take it back. There is no way you can do what he does and not be very intelligent. Maybe he's worth listening to. Just don't blindly fallow. Fantastic Game, he shows endless love for fellow gamers, and my 12 inch action figure of Marcus is awesome! I would recommend to him to maybe back off the “Not game related” subjects. We need a Robot Chicken version of GEARS!
