The Timothy Plan, one of our top 10 favorite conservative Christian, Florida-based investment firms, has just applied frowny-face stickers to "30 most offensive video games." (Offensive like killing hookers, not offensive like Haze or Imagine Fashion Horsez.) Our favorite entry on the list? Army of Two, scolded for "somewhat homo-erotic undertones between the two main characters."
Though we fully support the Timothy Plan bringing to light AoT's non-existent allusions that two men could have feelings for each other, we can't help but wonder ... isn't that our job?
Not to mention [crotch-hoisting joke here].

Apparently they played a different game than I did. Maybe I'm just inured to homo-erotic content since I'm a Massachusetts Liberal though.

No, but Christianity ranks among the top ten most offensive religions.

WiredKnight,
I think you're confusing the outspoken western mindset with Christian values. You're confusing culture with Christianity. I could give you many examples of Christianity in a non-western context that does not engage in public outcry. Therefore it is actually the western "my opinion needs to be heard" mentality that you have a problem with (and consequently are just as guilty of), not Christianity.
So I agree with you- our culture is ridiculous.

I have to agree with Spartacus on this. I'm no expert on the subject but Muslims in Indonesia can be very different than the ones we all know in the Middle East since they view a lot of the cultural aspects of the Middle Easterners as unnesscary as purely cultural and have nothing to do with being Muslims.

1. Christianity
2. Judaism,
3. Islam,
4. Buddhism,
5. Hinduism,
6. Shinto,
Umm...
7. Zoroastrianism (If no one has heard of it, it's a Persian religion formed somewhere between lingustically 1200 BC and likely historically 600 BC. I'd go with about 600 BC. Supposedly got ripped off by Judaism, though I've studied both extensively, read both holy books, but I can't find more than very superficial similarities. Sihks, I beleive are Zoro's that moved to India so I'm not counting them)
8... Scientology doesn't count. Animism is too broad of a label to count. I'm only going by still existing religions so Egypt and Greece/Rome's don't count. I'm going with Baha'is. It's kind of a conglomerate of the world's religions'.
9 and 10 require me to look some up. Oh okay, Jainism is #9
I can't count Confucism as a religion since from what I know about it, it seems more like Kong Fuzi in his life was more of a philosopher than a stereotypical "religious figure" that all the other ones had.
10. I'm going to have to pick Taoism since that's the last major one I can find or have heard of.

SkreeHunter is right. I spent two months in Indonesia working with Muslims there and they are radically different than their cousins in the middle east. For the record, yes, I've been to the middle east.
Culture has an enormous effect on religion and faith, sometimes good and sometimes very bad.
On a side note, to the original poster- I'm Christian and your name offends me. Monkeys are awesome. That is all.

I'm a Christian, and I gotta say I really wish these "Christian" organizations would seriously just shut up. I'm sick and tired of being labeled as a gay hater or a racist or anything else because some radical morons think it's their christian duty to publish these ridiculous lists. You really want to know what your kids are playing? Well pick up the damn game, and look at the bottom left hand corner. Problem solved! There's no need for these stupid lists created by people who, no doubt, have no idea what the esrb is or that it even exists.
As a Christian, I see it as my duty to believe, try to treat people how they should be treated, and talk to whoever is interested in the religion. If you're constantly telling people what's wrong with them, or why they're going to hell, then you're not a Christian. You're just an a hole.

I don't get all the hate for Ao2. I played through the whole thing with my hetero-life-mate and we had a great time semi-ironically gunning down generic terrorists back-to-back, fist-pounding, adding platinum and gold flames to our sniper rifles and talking about the Wu-Tang clan. Perhaps all you haters just haven't met your BFF yet.

Let's face it. Army of Two is about as homoerotic as the activities involved in pro sports.
If you look at Football (the American kind), there's a huge amount of butt slapping and where the QB has to place his hands to receive a typical snap is a bit interesting. Now onto locker room behavior...

The tougher the sport, the gayer it looks. Wrestlers have to wear a women's one piece swimsuit and grab from behind. MMA fighters only get a pair of shorts and practice jiujitsu.

I still don't see how this is a bad thing. After all, hetereosexuality gave us things like Nascar and leisure suits. I'm just going to go ahead and say that "the straight agenda" really doesn't offer much, overall.

I really don't see what the big deal is. This guy's firm decided to create a guide for Christian parents to decide what games to buy for their kids.
All of the sudden its judgmental and attacking everyone personally. Seriously WTF is wrong you people that are offended? Are you that thin skinned?
If you are a parent that doesn't care about what your kids play in regards to a set of Christian moral standards, than this guide is certainly not for you.
I would never think about bitching endlessly about a parent's buying guide that Muslims, Jews, Hindus, Buddhists, Environmentalists, Animal Rights groups or anyone else that has a strict set of beliefs they live by.
Some people protest too much I think...

what's wrong is that labeling games with things like this will lead to the belief that even having male friends means you're gay. It reads way too much in to subtleties that aren't there. It's the word of some extremists that are overprotective of nothing.
Plus they need to just keep their big mouth shut. Leave it up to the parents to decide what their kids play and when the kid is 18 or however old then they can make their own decisions. Providing they don't suck the teet anymore.

I rest my case.
If any laws were proposed to enforce decency in games, you no doubt would be lecturing parents that it's THEIR responsibility to make sure their kids aren't playing inappropriate games.
Now that someone is making a guide to help parents do just that, you get sand in your vag1na

actually no, florida just produces the most outspoken extremists so far. and hell ya parents should do parenting themselves. not leave it up to some group of people to make decisions for them. though that is fast becoming the american way. "I'm too lazy, do it for me."

Good point Kevin...
Perhaps you will take your own advice and steer clear of every game review website and magazine in existence in order for you to "not leave it up to some group of people to make decisions for you".
Please tell me I don't have to explain to you how ridiculous you appear posting something that absurd on a WEBSITE that REVIEWS VIDEO GAMES.

I apologize for insinuating that you are a hypocrite or in any way inconsistent. In rereading your posts, I am now convinced that you indeed don't learn from, or trust anything beyond your own first-hand experience.
Your outlook is very "Cogito ergo sum", which of course, should be meaningless to you since you could have no possible firsthand knowledge of the existence of René Descartes. (or La Haye en Touraine,or perhaps France, or even that the earth is round or etc. etc. ad infinitum.)
Good luck with that.

Well, I will say that in their defense, they did seem to have actually played the games, that said, the Army of Two thing was particularly disturbing.
"Although never spoken of, undertones of homosexuality are present. Weaponry in the game can be decorated to anything from diamond encrusted to gold plated. You share a parachute..."
Apparently these people think real life army paratroopers dropping down with someone else (usually a specialist) has homosexual undertones. That probably means tandem skydiving is out of the question. Also, gold plated guns? I knew Francisco Scaramanga had something about him, thanks to the Timothy Plan, now I know he was more than likely homosexual because he was the man with the Golden Gun.
