EA makes NASCAR-T cute for Wii in February
Awwe, will you look at that? Little Kasey Kahne went and got himself a booboo. Electronic Arts announced that when it brings its long-held NASCAR license to the Wii early next year, it will be shorter, cuter and full of "cartoon mischief." Billed as a family-friendly take on motorsports, the Wii-exclusive NASCAR Kart Racing ("NASKART!") will feature a roster of 14 licensed NASCAR drivers (listed after the break) and 10 others that EA dreamed up, each with different capabilities to help them and a teammate reach the checkered flag first.
Up to four racers will be able to compete head-to-head, though players will have to be satisfied with sharing the screen. Wacky races will be spread out across 24 different tracks, from real world courses to junkyards and freeways. NASCAR Kart Racing will pull up to the retail starting line on February 10th, in time for the Daytona 500 and the official start of the 2009 NASCAR season. Until then ... gentlemen, start your engines! No, wait, it's that cord on the back there. Yea, just give it a good tug. There, you got it.

Am I alone in this, or are NASCAR games boring as shit?! The only fun I ever had in the two that I've ever played was driving the wrong way for a few laps then ramming head on top speed into any Chevy that gets in the way of my Ford!!
Mr Khan @ Dec 4th 2008 12:09PM
yeesh.
The world does need more kart racers, but not like this

xFenixKnightx @ Dec 4th 2008 12:46PM
Where are the ones for 360? :(
Rare, Banjo Kart Racing please!!!
Dirty @ Dec 4th 2008 12:20PM
EA version of re-imagining games for the wii is beating them down with a stick until they are retarded and then throwing a bucket of water and the crap that survived..... Sadly it will probably work.
Mr Khan @ Dec 4th 2008 1:40PM
It's not so much what they do as it is how they do it that really wrecks their Wii efforts. Like making chibi versions of professional sports players (or in this case, professional racers) and trying to pitch it as such
Certainly this concept would be a lot easier to swallow if they made a Diddy Kong Racing-esque stable of animal characters and had them racing around colorful worlds instead of debasing NASCAR racers
Seasarsee @ Dec 4th 2008 12:31PM
nascar can't get any worse..or can it?
Karen @ Dec 4th 2008 12:31PM
Hahaha my Nephew's going to love this.
XLM @ Dec 4th 2008 12:47PM
wont the right turns throw everybody off?
chispito @ Dec 4th 2008 1:06PM
You do realize Nascar also has road racing, right?
XLM @ Dec 4th 2008 2:41PM
i seeeeee. well, a quick half assed search seems to show it as an newish addition and rare event in any case and that feed back from the ovoid lovers posting is that it's not particularly loved.

Gag.
Regarding auto racing - I highly recommend this documentary:

It is amazing...

Haha, nice! NASCAR: Neutered for the Wii.
No really, this is about the only NASCAR I can get into except for the NASCAR's greatest wrecks on Youtube. :)
aj @ Dec 4th 2008 1:01PM
How is Nascar not family friendly? Were all the other Nascar games rated M?
Michael @ Dec 4th 2008 2:17PM
The other Nascar games included Klan rallys, inbreeding, chugging Bud(read pisswater), and chewin' tobacky.
Tez @ Dec 4th 2008 1:07PM
Oh, dear...
Blazur @ Dec 4th 2008 1:25PM
"shorter, cuter and full of cartoon mischief."
Isn't that all the Wii is capable of? I mean that's pretty much the modus operandi for this console.
Evan @ Dec 4th 2008 1:25PM
Will it involve right turns?
Derek "Blue Steel" Zoolander @ Dec 4th 2008 1:35PM
I for one hope there are right turns.
tmontana213 @ Dec 4th 2008 1:45PM
Makes me want to buy a Wii...ahahahahahaha sorry I just can't say that without laughing!
baby sea tuna @ Dec 4th 2008 1:53PM
Well, this is sure to make us hardcore gamers rethink the whole "kids and old ladies" image that the Wii has attatched to it!
xFenixKnightx @ Dec 4th 2008 2:52PM
Agreed.
Dale @ Dec 4th 2008 1:55PM
I laughed at the crazy Wii naysayers, but it's fast becoming the joke they predicted. Which sucks.
kastonie @ Dec 4th 2008 2:10PM
It can be like mario kart and have a ghost, except it would be Dale senior........
Scott Brooks @ Dec 4th 2008 2:12PM
What's funny is that it will probably be more fun than Nascar '09 on the 360....
Russ Carroll @ Dec 4th 2008 2:12PM
The video of the game doesn't look half bad. I think there is a bit too much Wii-hate going on, let it go and smile :). You might find you enjoy some of the games if you didn't hate them before ever playing them, or if you tried the variety of games available (and if you don't think there is a variety available...take another look, educate, open your mind!)

If I wanted to partake in something involving cars and going to the left for 500 miles, I'd drive through Europe.

Sorry, if I can't race as Dick Trickle, I'm not buyin.

GIT R DUN!
Freakhead @ Dec 4th 2008 4:26PM
I want to like and it does look fun, but couldn't have EA tried to do something new?
The video shows some major copying of MarioKart going on.
Moptimus Slime @ Dec 4th 2008 4:52PM
And Peter Moore wonders why nobody buys EA Sports games on the Wii (except Woods). Its this kind of bullshit.
I see no reason Moore feels the need to "compete with Wii Sports". I haven't meet a single person who only plays Wii Sports and other Nintendo games. I wonder how long it'll take him to realize that no one is "satisfied" with Wii Sports, which is why people actually buy Tiger Woods, even though Wii Sports has a golf game. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for making games accessible, primarily because I feel any game that requires a tutorial longer than 4 minutes must've been developed by someone with a brain tumor the size of Australia.
Im gonna call my shot and say this game won't even outsell Ninjabread Man.
just....playwhutyalike @ Dec 4th 2008 5:41PM
Dear EA,
Blow me.
P.S. Bejeweled 2 on my phone is the only game I will own from your company.
Seriously though, this game might be fun, but there isn't any hunger to rush out and own it.
dsub @ Dec 4th 2008 6:24PM
I feel sorry for those still clinging to the idea that the Wii is a great system for gamers.
Jacksons @ Dec 4th 2008 6:38PM
Is there a reason kids can't enjoy real NASCAR? Or all the other sports games, for that matter (they're all rated E as far as I know)?
I know they're attempting to target the Wii's audience, but I'd bet money that kids think the real versions are "cooler" anyway.
