Though we'll leave the exact placement and nature of the controller for you to figure out, Activision is insistent that the item used to beat the Tony Hawk skateboarding franchise out of it stale stupor won't just be any ol' paddle. "You're not going to be playing this game with a controller in your hands," the company teased at a recent, in-game advertising summit.
We've heard mumblings of a new peripheral before (the new DS game already has a confirmed tilt function), but are no closer to understanding just what the device is and how it works. Our highly educated guess? A giant plastic skateboard. For a skateboarding game. Is that pushing it?

I think the title of this article should leave out the part with the quotes.

Skate It doesn't count. We are talking about the real Skate, not the half-assed one on the Wii and DS.

I think I'm done buying peripherals this generation. If Tony Hawk can't play nice with a controller I already own, then no sale.
Oh, who am I kidding, I haven't bought a THPS game since the PS1 days and I don't plan on starting now.

Well I don't like having to pay a gajillion dollars so I can have a bunch of Fisher Price toys around my house just so I can play the damn game!

Do you hear that sound? It's the sound of Activision's desperation. As if it wasn't bad enough that they dragged out poor Tony Hawk, drumming in a retard helmet, to sell guitar hero world tour!
Seriously Activision, spend your time and money on making a better game, not simply trying to sell us more embarrassing crap to look like a tool using/standing on in our Mom's basement.

Underground 1 was the first game I beat in a long while when it came out. I liked Project 8 also, but never got to finish it. I always been a fan of skating games (since I used to skate but stopped because I don't like getting hurt).

Wow what a useless comment... Let me finish what I was gonna say.
BUT, this time I am gonna go for skate 2 and that's not even considering the thought of any perifs. That is the dumbest idea I have heard for a game in a long time. For shame Tony Hawk...
For Shame....

Guitar Hero was what launched peripheral-mania, dude, and that was released before the Wii.

Too bad in the end they sacrifice the quality of the game just to make those people squirm.
So in the end who really loses?

Wasn't buying it before, definitely not buying it now.
Do yourselves a favor Activision. Just make this version for the Wii. Soccer moms worldwide will eat it up as "exercise for their kids" as opposed to just buying them a real damn skateboard or taking the little bastards skiing. This way they don't have to worry about watching them and they can spend more time drinking appletinis and watching Dr. Phil and Oprah.
As for the 360/PS3 version, just copy the Skate control formula, update your graphics engine and you'll be good to go.

OMG i heard for Gran Turismo, Sony is throwing away the controller too! Instead you have to use a "PowerWheels" sized vehicle with rumble seats, and shifter.
Only 2 models available for GT release at this time:
1.Pre owned 86' Honda Civic
2.Ferrari Enzo.
THIS IS MADNESS!!

Sorry Activision, but in this case you should just ripoff Skate. A game doesn't need to be innovative to be good.

You guys forget that DDR really kicked off the whole "here's a controller that takes up 17 square feet and breaks if you fold it!" fad

This is the equivalent of forcing people to play devil may cry with a plastic sword peripheral.
Tony Hawk has always been a game that relies on price controls. You can't have precise controls on a plastic board.

$100 Tony Hawk game here we come! Ugh...for god sakes, no.
As someone said above, they need to get it out of their heads that we don't like using controllers anymore. I love my the 360 controller and all these extra huge plastic controllers of various types are just getting way out of hand. STOP IT!

I miss back in the tony hawk 1-3 days when they used to go out and map real skateparks and use them in the games. I really miss those alot I think they lost the luster that used to be tony hawk when they bent over and took one from activision and started milking out like every few months with weird handheld ports that were clunky and weird. Most of all I just miss the old school game play none of this free world roaming world of warcraft quest garbage. Just give me 2 minutes and 10 objectives. This isn't that hard guys.

How about the Wii Balance Board? It's already relatively the same shape.
