Wanted: Weapons of Fate. Found: New in-game video
This first gameplay video is hugely self-explanatory. Cover is a big deal in the game (the camera pulls in closely to force you to stick your neck out) and, as anyone who's seen the movie could anticipate, the "curving" of shots is a central gameplay mechanic. As you can see in the footage, there's a curved line that switches from red to white; pressing shoulder button on the controller displays this when you've gained enough adrenaline. Moving the left stick changes the arc, and when you have a clear shot, it turns white. This is used frequently.
The character animation and lighting are real stand-outs so far, although we're not exactly sure how keen we are on the quick-time-event style slo-mo sequences.

that actually looks kind of badass

Maybe the first time.
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Dec 4th 2008 8:11PM
Looks pretty meh. However if at teh end they have the main character say: "This is what my face looks like while I'm fucking you in the ass" I will buy this game on day one.
Goku (aka Ska Chips Ahoy!) @ Dec 5th 2008 12:21PM
The game is worth a rental. Especially if you saw the movie.
The Aggie CEO @ Dec 4th 2008 8:11PM
hmmmmm
Curve the Bullet........
so I wonder if you have a limit on how many times you can do that.....
else there would be no need to EVER shoot normally.......

The Aggie CEO @ Dec 4th 2008 9:28PM
lol......I read that.......still didnt say it was LIMITED or not......you could fill your adrenaline up and it might stay until you die.......or you could fill it up and it could go down as you use it......
Ah ha.......
Gehodra @ Dec 4th 2008 10:00PM
You should have just admitted to not reading it instead of throwing up a defense as weak as that.
kaneda @ Dec 5th 2008 12:02AM
"when you've gained enough adrenaline"
Because as we all know, you can only curve bullets when you are really pumped.
Gehodra @ Dec 5th 2008 1:29AM
I know, it's silly right?
I can curve bullets in my sleep.
The Aggie CEO @ Dec 5th 2008 7:15AM

The animations for moving between cover are pretty awesome, especially sliding over one piece into another. I hope there's a demo before release so I can try it out.
WiredKnight @ Dec 4th 2008 10:21PM
Yea, but the dude's head sticks out like a sore thumb.
Jawmuncher @ Dec 4th 2008 8:14PM
How many games is Grin making?
Whenever I see a game coming out I think that's interesting it's made by them. It's weird.
spyker @ Dec 4th 2008 8:47PM
Hmm could be good but that curve shot seems like it could get repetitive. Also, it's a movie based game and how many of those are good?
the_insider @ Dec 4th 2008 8:50PM
Those QT sequences were shit!!!
Not only did they permanently break the 180 degree rule of cinematography and basically confuse teh shit out of the viewer, They don't even give you the satisfying pay-off for your slow-mo actions! You aim in slow-mo, fire off a bunch of bullets at helpless enemies and tehn it cuts to a shot (from the other side) showing you bouncing off a shelf or something while the enemies off screen are taking a would-be-gratifying rain of bullets to the face. I have to say overall teh game looked decent up until that sequence but any interest I had died with that abysmally done QT sequence...
Mr.Ironic @ Dec 4th 2008 10:02PM
On no the quick time events were good. I liked it, basically it's like the scene near the end of the film where he runs through a long line killing everyone. Mostly the camera was on him but sometimes they'd do the slow shot and as soon as it fires it speeds up again.
It's to get you back in to the action again, appreciating the *speed* of action between kills not the slow mo bullets. Keeps the adrenaline up. If they let you leisurely watch the slow mo it wouldn't be fast and would lower tension.
Mal F4cti0n @ Dec 4th 2008 9:14PM
Looks like it good be decent, decent if they don't go overboard and mixing all these mechanics.
Special cases for the curved bullet (read: minimal) to solve puzzles, limited use of slo-mo (read:minimal) and not having little target all over the world to hit for MAXIMUM DAMAGE (read: minimal) can give this potential. If they over do it through the game, it gets old and repetitive and boring and same old, same old and cheezy and similar and grinding and old and repetitive and boring and same old, same old and cheezy and similar and grinding and old and repetitive and boring and same old, same old and cheezy and similar and grinding and old and repetitive and boring and same old, same old and cheezy and similar and grinding and you get the idea.
uh-oh polio @ Dec 4th 2008 9:31PM
They should implement sixaxis into this game for curving bullets. I think that would be pretty cool.
Gehodra @ Dec 5th 2008 1:30AM
I'd probably end up curving it back into my character's face.
DBuck_Eye @ Dec 4th 2008 9:34PM
I guess Gears of War clones are the new GTA clones?
BLee @ Dec 4th 2008 10:02PM
If by Gears clone, you mean Killswitch clone..
Gehodra @ Dec 4th 2008 10:15PM
I think he means Gears of War clone.
Haggard @ Dec 5th 2008 10:58AM
I think he didn't know he meant it.
Orionsaint @ Dec 4th 2008 9:43PM
I can't believe people bought into this curving bullet shit, haha. It's so prefabricated by Hollywood and suckers ate it up.
Dirty @ Dec 4th 2008 11:19PM
Oh what are you too cool for curving bullets. That shit is badassery. Sure it really doesn't make any sense and is ridiculous, but you know what I live in the real world and its boring as shit. Have fun missing out on the bad ass parade because your in the corner smoking a cigarette like some queer hipster because your too cool for bad ass parades.
bluesky_v2.01 @ Dec 4th 2008 9:47PM
Looks alright, but can anyone remember a game based on a movie that didn't suck b*lls?
Ryan @ Dec 4th 2008 10:35PM
Just a few posts down. It's called "Chronicles of Riddick".
Alien Lord @ Dec 4th 2008 10:04PM
I might get this but I'd like to try a demo first, I love how 360 gets demos for most games.
Mr.Ironic @ Dec 4th 2008 10:09PM
OK I read Dark Sector, Gears of War, and Stranglehold and thought this might be good but then remembered it's a movie game. Then I watched the video and while at first few seconds it kinda had an assassins creed look (which would be out of place) at the first kill it was actually pretty good, like a sped up gears. Really liked the fluid motion, transition from cover to cover looks better than gears. Though I don't want a gears clone sped up. Needs to be a little unique. Completely forgot about the curve bullet, looks pretty neat.
I thought Wanted was a bit like Bourne but with fantasy thrown in.
VicViper09 @ Dec 4th 2008 10:48PM
OOOOOooo curves a bullet over the planter right into a GUY STANDING IN THE OPEN. Then curves a bullet through the archway right into a GUY STANDING IN THE OPEN. Man that was awesome!!! Day 1 purchase FA SHO! GETTIN THAT FA SHO!
Mister Servo @ Dec 5th 2008 1:03AM
Yeah I thought that was kind of pointless, he arched the bullet so he could what? Hit the guy on top of his head instead of in the face? But whatever, if it actually worked so you could hit people behind objects (did he in the second part of the video? I can't tell) than it would be quite useful and fun. Especially in a multi-player scenario, if it has one.
I'm kind of turned off by most quick time segments in games, the only ones I found to be enjoyable so far are the ones in Resident Evil 4. These ones don't look too spectacular and hopefully they're kept to a minimum in the final game.
Haggard @ Dec 5th 2008 11:02AM
Maybe it's easier than just aiming?
Strategy_Panda (the artist formally known as Titanium_Orchid) @ Dec 4th 2008 11:03PM
The cover animations remind me of the Eight Days tech demo
Chris @ Dec 5th 2008 8:48AM
My thoughts exactly.

Mr.Ironic @ Dec 16th 2008 10:45PM
oh wow. What's this?
He's actually moving like it matters and you would expect.
Got to put a high hit rate on that and have them ducking an' weaving in cover. That's so cool.
Reminds me of the first time I saw Flashback and the way that moved in 2d. This is like the same step up but for these days.

Good comic turned into lame movie turned into really lame game

man the clip in that gun during the qt event is either 3 ft long or it magically makes ammo
AtomicPlayboy @ Dec 5th 2008 12:49PM
Max Payne with a cover system. Swell.
TitusCrow @ Dec 6th 2008 12:31PM
Looks like Prince of Persia with guns.
Oberious @ Dec 7th 2008 2:47PM
I think he's wearing the comic book costume in the last segment of the video. That movie could have been so much better if they would have stuck with the comic's mythology.
