Though PlayStation Home seems forever out of reach, this hasn't stopped Atari's Phil Harrison, one of the original architects of Sony's much-anticipated virtual landscape, from singing its praises. The former Sony exec was one of Home's chief evangelists, and, according to Eurogamer, believes Sony has "brilliantly realised their ambitions."
While also "quite impressed" with Microsoft's efforts around the social networking buzzword, Harrison noted that he feels his former employer "will have a very successful platform." We just hope that when he gives Home a congratulatory slap on the back, he does so with enough gusto to actually push it out the door.

I had to look up LTQM. I'm pretty sure that means I'm officially old. :(
Not as old as my co-worker, who I caught looking up the definition for "camel-toe," though.

I'm a child of the 70's and we used the term 'Camel-toe' back then...I don't know how old you would have to be to not know that one...

The way he promoted it while at sony, talking negatively about Home would put himself in a bad light. Of course he would praise it.

No one will buy phsical media anymore cause everyone will be downloading their games from Home.

Too bad Shane Black is a much better writer than Renny Harlin ever was a director.

That was good! LOL
I can't wait to see how it turns out as well. I really like how each console tries to emulate the other console feature and still manage to bring their own unique feature to the table as well.
I really hope Sony does do better. I think us gamers will benefit the most from all this competition.

When (if) Home does release, is it going to be like an update where it's a mandatory download or will it just be something that will be available on the PSN?
I haven't seen anything that yet that would make me want this.

It's supposed to be a mandatory system update but I don't think you have to use it when your console updates, even though it's hard to complain about free stuff. As far as I know you can still use the plain old XMB.

Ha ha! No, I'm not like "Damn you Sony! Damn you and your free things!" I just wasn't sure how it was going to be implemented. I kind of assumed it would be like Life With Playstation where it was something you choose off the XMB.
I'm sure I'll use Home once it's out to at least check it out.

You do choose it off the XMB, but it only appears after an update. Pretty much the same way you'd access the net.
This is why I can't see it flopping like say many MMORPGs and Googles simulator, mainly because its free, it doesn't take up the space you want for music, movies etc, and its easy as hell to access, if anyone is bored of playing Resistance, they just jump into home and mess about.

There is no way Home can flop because it is not a game, it is a service. Read my post below. People need to stop misunderstanding Home for what it is.

I have Home, and unlike so many others, I don't see it as a game. I see it for what it is, a service of the PlayStation Network. When with a friend, Home works great. Sometimes, it's great to lay back and play pool or bowling with a friend when you don't feel like playing. If they improve the game launch list (so far, I think only MotorStorm and Warhawk have that feature), they can expect many to use Home as a party system for games that maybe don't come with party systems. Clans can also use the club's to post messages when tryouts and clan practices will happen. Home does have a lot of potential. Sony just needs to put more games in the game launching feature, and people have to look at it for what it is.

Wait, it only works with certain games?
FFS, when the hell is Sony gonna get with the freaking program on this one. The reason the PSN annoys me so much is because crap just doesn't always work, it's always a list of things that work with a list of games. Just make it work with every game already for christ's sake, and if it's up to the developers to make it work then force them to do it before they're allowed to release the game on your platform. It's not going to scare them away, otherwise MS wouldn't be doing it.

Vcize - kinda. The developers have to add the home functionality into their game. The reason is that the options you see when setting up a multiplayer game in the actual game is displayed in Home instead. So, in Warhawk for example, you pick the maps, round settings, etc... in the Home interface.
However, you can launch any game within Home but it will simply launch it. Then when you exit out of the game, you are brought right back to where you were in Home.
I think Socom said that it had Home integration on the back of the box but I never tried it. I was really surprised that Motorstorm 2 didn't have it.

Apparently Sony's vision was to make an incredibly boring waste of time, because that is all they have "brilliantly realised".

When they first thought of Home, they need a way to entertain gamers because there wasn't anything good on PS3. A few years later, Home is not out but there are better games already.
Personally, I think they are planning Home for PS4, not this gen.

For being a free service that you in no way are required to use, a lot of people seem pretty bitter about it. Grow up, kiddos.

Who the hell cares about home? By time it comes out ps4 will be out. I'd rather pay $50 a year and get live then use a piece of crap like that for free. Just because it's free doesn't justify it being a stinking pile of garbage.
Posted: Dec 5th 2008 3:17PM (Unverified) said
Yeah, it's boring, but I wouldn't go that far and say it's a pile of garbage. Geez, I know the other reindeer were jerks to you, but don't take it out on Sony.

Also, it's wise to spell check before calling other people 'supid', and contrary to public belief, Bullshit uses the letter 's'.
It also only has one 't'.
Now hop on a treadmill and GTFO.
