Official Konami site teases 'a next Metal Gear'

A couple of hours ago, on Kojima Productions' homepage, a link in the form of a green power button icon appeared. Clicking on it leads to this splash page which alternates between the Konami logo and the cryptic message above.

The green color and power button symbol are leading some to believe this has something to do with the Xbox 360. However, keep in mind that the power icon appears on just about every electronic device, including the PS3. The icon as depicted above is also slightly modified, since includes an exclamation mark, which is a trademark of the Metal Gear series. Finally, note that "mgst" appears on the URL, which could be an acronym of some sort.

What do you guys think? Let the speculation commence!

Unfortunately, I do think it is for the 360 since everything is lit in green. On top of that, there is that power icon that most people associate with the 360. There is the possibility that the game isn't a new one, but MGS4. I could be wrong and I know I'll be flamed, but that's alright. In this case, I would love nothing more than to be wrong.

That's a little on the retarded side of a far reach. You're only spinning it once so why would you have two 180's.

I'll subscribe to the iCrap theory of adding something to an apple product, or possibly the rerelease, but not this.

I won't be surprised (or happy) if one for the CrapBox releases, but they won't have Snake, so they get a kick to the groin there. But I highly doubt the information we have would follow the logic trail 180 + 180.

The first one IS upside down... It's incredibly stupid but it might just be the case.

Not that I care either way, already thrashed MGS4 and it'd take quite the special feature set to get me to purchase it again.

I think it's probably another addition to the MGS4, I don't feel like it has much to do with a new one. It's going to be something kind of like VR Missions.

The "i" could actually be a person as well. Like "You" + MG = Power symbol...which I've no clue what this could mean.

what about mgs acid for psn? that would make sense, with hd graph and online multi. kojima already said mgs4 is not possible on xbox.

MGS4 wont come to 360 unless you are going to have a 5 disc game. That is what most people don't realise! As MGS4 took up a whole blu-ray.

After Kojima's commentary on his feelings on Microsoft and their consoles, the chances it'll be on 360 are slim to none if he has anything to do with it. If he doesn't... well, I don't really know how interested I'll be. Frankly, it's Kojima who makes Metal Gear what it is, and without him, it's just not worth my time. My bet is on a new Metal Gear series though, not following Snake anymore (as was already very heavily implied).

I agree. If Kojima isn't involved, not only will I not be interested, but I would guess that there might be a fair amount of backlash from the community. 360 player will feel like they are getting some imitation. It is very much worth noting that Kojima has spoken in no unclear terms about how he feels about the 360.

It's probably the definitive version of MGS4, for both PS3 and 360. Or maybe for 360 first, knd of like what Konami did with MGS2:S for Xbox. Either or sounds good to me.

Oddly, when you save the flash object (I did it through Firefox - right-click>view page info>select the flash object>save as) it's default file name is mark.

Is this as in the name, Mark? Or one of the more boring, and probably more likely other meanings of the word mark?

I'd say MGST is Metal Gear Solid Teaser, since that's what the page is.

"A next metal gear is"

"A next" sounds like "annexed". To put two together basically. Like the right-side and upside down exclamation points.

"Annexed metal gear is"... what?

Annexed? It's a bit of a stretch, but it would give more fuel to the 360 rumors, as in "Microsoft annexed MSG for the Xbox."

I mean if there is a new metal gear game for the 360 i will buy it being the metal gear solid fanboy i am, but i'd much rather play it on my PS3.

I doubt if it is this deep of a hint, but the exclamation points are the ones used at the beginning and end of a sentence in Spanish, and while it does look like a power symbol (intentionally, most likely), it is also showing a ring leading back to the ending...so...maybe...some game that somehow ties everything together? While I do hate it, Konami won't keep the 360 "out of the loop(!)" forever; development is just too expensive.

well the "a next metal gear is..." and the ! + ¡ = (!) thing first makes me thing on X360....
but only judging by the relation between the equation and the Phrase.. i think A Next Metal gear is : ON --> in the works.
though the whole green color thing just clarifies me this IS also coming for X360, if not exclusively...wich is what i thought off in the begging, so after all, looks like everything is related.

well, considering it is from Kojima Productions, it may not be for360... (or at least not and exclusive game M$ requested, or Bought) ($$$).

Acid for the iPhone would be great

this is most likely what first comes to mind, either an iPhone/iPod Touch and/or a DSi game. Apples been pushing their iPod as a gaming device for some time now and DSi is apparently getting a ton of attention. the last symbol kinda does remind me of the 360 but I don't think thats what this is about. Maybe, the "i,!" are a Spanish connection. Also, I think Bill29A is onto something. "A next metal gear" is kind of an awkward sentence. there might be something there.

I reckon its just telling us that a new metal gear is in production i (i obviously) + ! (alert) = (!) (on). Mixed with the phrase, i alert a next metal gear is on

You're forgetting the fact that after MGS2, Kojima decided that a Metal Gear Solid game for the Xbox was not "suitable" for the console, thus the reason why the following Metal Gear Solid games were released on PlayStation consoles.

What do we think? Well i for one think you guys have way too much time on your hands..

Forgot to add : if you look at the website you can see that Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops Plus [PSP] is out on the 5th.

Just thought I'd add my contribution:

The phrase 'A next metal gear is' implies that it's part of an already going series, ie: solid, ac!d etc.
If it was a new series for 360 or something it would probably be 'A NEW metal gear is".

Just to put the 360 rumors to rest: The color green indicates that it is current, to be powered ON, in the works etc. but if it was any other color, for example, blue or red or purple, people would be confused and come up with things like 'OMG it's coming out on 360!'

I know, even if it wasn't green, there would be rumors of it coming out on 360.

lol if IT WAS RED it be CONFIRMED for xbox lol

Besides, isn't all that symbol on the 360 actually red? ;P
