Want to play that Resident Evil 5 demo today?

You may have heard that we in America were going to have to wait a bit longer for the Resident Evil 5 demo than those in Japan, where it arrived this morning. But that's the thing about us Americans: We're unwilling to wait for anything we want, and we're exceedingly crafty. Those are actually two things, but you get the idea.

Our friends at Planet Xbox 360 have laid out all the steps you'll need to play the demo today, but be aware that it may not be for everybody, as this is a pretty elaborate process. See, that's the thing about us Americans: We can also be kind of lazy.

It shouldn't take more than 15 minutes, but yeah that's too long. I'll wait a "bit", probably only until next week.

I downloaded the demo, but after I tried playing it I got a message saying error region code. Did this happend to anybody else, And is there another way to play the demo?

Yeah... I don't feel like risking getting my 360 banned from Live.

You can't get banned for that. Developer's have the ability to region lock demos. If it isn'r region locked, then have at it.

You wont get banned. I have done this before. The good thing about the Japanese demo is that it includes the English demo also. ESRB warning and all. That's when I wondered why they don't just release it now.

Your loss!!! RE 1-3 we've been killing white people, 4 we killed hispanics and 5 we're killing black zombies which btw ive seen gameplay in RE5 killing a mexican guy and a white guy. People are too sensitive. I'm African American, it doesn't phase me.

That's the beautiful thing about people getting offended at that sort of thing. It's always the people who have no real reason to get offended, they feel it's their duty to be offended on behalf of someone else. I myself am Jewish, and I probably know more Jew jokes than anyone, and think they're hilarious. And I guarantee it's the same for almost everyone.

Well, I saw there was more than 1 step and suddenly felt too sleepy to read on. So no demo for me.

Two questions:
1. Will this work for europeans?
2. Can you get banned for doing this?

2. Put on a foil cap, for you can get banned for thinking "it" as well.

I did it. I couldn't help myself. It was a compulsion. It could have taken twice the steps and involved lava and I still would have done it. I hope the demo isn't full of unreadable Japanese text...

Of course Sony wont foot the bill for a demo and it costs a lot to do one.

Sony wouldn't be the ones to pay for it unless they are paying Capcom for exclusivity, which they haven't. If anything, it costs Capcom money to pay Sony for hosting the demo on PSN.

Either way, I feel a "wah-wah" is in order for us PS3 owning RE fans :/

That sucks. I've already got a japanese PSN account. Guess I'll just have to wait for the US 360 demo.

"Quick Guide to Getting Japanese 360 Gold:

* Go here: http://www.passport.net/
* Sign up a new account, Click "No, sign me up for a free MSN Hotmail e-mail address"
* Pick JAPAN for your country, pick Tokyo-to as your Prefecture 150-2345 for your zipcode
* Keep going, and then have it set you up with a @hotmail.com address.
* Go to your 360, and create a new profile. Log in using your hotmail address on your 360, and it should set it to Japan.
* If this is less than your 4th trial account you get gold free, so select yes when it asks you. (the RE5 demo requires Gold standing)

How to actually download the demo via Japanese Xbox LIVE Marketplace:

* Login to your Japanese Gold account
* Once logged in press the xbox button in the middle of your controller to bring up the "old" dashboard
* Navigate to the market place tab, then go to Game Marketplace
* From Game Market place navigate all the way down to ALL GAMES
* Then from ALL GAMES. Then go to "ALL" (instead of trying to understand japanese alphabet). Then just scroll through all the games until you get to BioHazzard 5 (it should be 270 of 40
* Once you get to BioHazzard 5, the first screen should say "Get Demo" and viola you are downloading the demo. Should be like 472 MBs.

Now go have fun! Thanks to the crazy people at Neogaf for helping out with the instructions at 3:20 in the morning."

For the record, it downloads incredibly quickly, and everything (menus, title screen, audio, subtitles) is in English!

You guys are so inconspicuous. You must have at least a +20 modifier for both Hide and Move Silently.

i had no idea you could do that with demos, now i must think to myself, do i want to waste a dvd-r on a demo, damn you lazy and cheap me!

just a little heads up, if one were to go take a little dip in a particular bay, they would find the re5 demo, uploaded 30 min. ago

Any 360 can play the demo off a cdr/dvdr/flashdrive. It's an undocumented feature of the 360. It's also not against any terms.

The free codes say on them that they only allow you to play games on LIVE, not that they grant you the other XBL Gold benefits. It sucks.

I'm downloading it now. Also, I definitely didn't realize you could download XBL demos from yarrgh sites and they would play on an unmodded 360. Interesting.

Yes, the controls are a bit stiff compared to RE4 and you cant roll out of the way or quickturn in place. Its not made by the same guy that did RE4 but has many similarities. I wouldn't say that I was disappointed but I do feel it falls just a little short of my expectations. We'll see, its just the demo and I'm still really looking forward to picking this up when it comes out next year. Hopefully they have the same extra modes like RE4 does and hopefully I DON'T HAVE TO PAY EXTRA FOR IT AS DOWNLOAD CONTENT!! Having the chainsaw as a weapon would be game mode/ survival mode.

I also noticed the violence was toned down just a little, (don't get me wrong, its still ultra violent) maybe because it is the Japanese version.

I found the controls to be a lot better. The main difference is that strafe is on the left stick now, and the right stick turns you. Personally, I thought that got the action flowing a bit better.

Also, you can quick turn. Down + A will do that. Oh, and the boss dudes (Bag-head-chainsaw-guy and the executioner) are tough as hell. Probably didn't help that the AI was controlling my partner...

Nevermind, I just just figured that out too....down+A for quickturn. But there is no dodge or quickroll and when you are in aim mode you are stationary, cant walk or strafe, just aim....and I think in RE4 you could run and gun or at least walk and gun to get in a better position for a moving target. Don't get me wrong, I love it, great graphics, etc, but the controls kinda suck.

Nope Richard, RE5 is the exact same as RE4, in RE4 you couldn't move and shoot either. It is one of my main problems with RE4 and 5, I would love to move and shoot (as in walk and shoot, not run and shoot) but well, at least strafing is there... It's just that Tank controls are very outdated, thus it feels a little stiff compared to other 3rd person games.

After you download it with the Japanese live account, you can sign back in to your normal U.S. live account and still play the demo. In fact, the game will be titled "Resident Evil 5" instead of "Biohazard 5" and all game text will be converted to English too.

So no word on a PC release then?
