Allow me to stroke my diploma while I kick back and enjoy my Sunday evening.

I may have unintentionally created a new euphemism there.

It's alright fella, try putting yourself out there on internet dating sites. My guess is most mortuary science majors end up having to stroke their own diploma.

You'll find someone.

Probably a LBP bundle is out in Japan.

Yeah, that's what it is, I think?

Actually, the Japanese don't seem to be that fond of LBP. =(

It's PES that's pushing PS3 hardware in Japan at the moment, even if it isn't bundled.

Just do what I do when I have finals - procrastinate hard with gaming (for me, kick it old school with Banjo-Tooie) and cram at the last second (while still procrastinating, of course. Like me. Right now).

i never really stressed for finals. for me they always consisted of the stuff we had already learned during the course. since i paid attention before it wasn't hard. final projects were a different story. the ps3 hit for 2x damage

Same here. All I did was pay attention in class, and start projects when they were assigned. Oh, and get intoxicated every night...

Hey There Fellas!
I want to pose a question to anyone willing to answer. I have been going back and forth trying to decide whether or not i should purchase a PS3. My friend owns one and i go over there occasionally and play around with it. It is quite the thrilling experience i must proclaim. Cost aside, my only other issue is with the game selection. The exclusives I have played were MGS4, Heavenly Sword, and Uncharted, and of those three, Uncharted was the only one that really intrigued me. I played around with LBP as well, and that one i cannot figure out. it is a lot of fun, like an immense amount of fun, but i am not sure if after i finish the single player i would delve into level creation. I do own a 360, so the multi-platforms i play on that system. Could anyone give me some helpful advice one way or the other? Thanks! And by the way, a wise man once told me that this thursday was seven days after last thursday. True story!

Don't waste your money.

Only useful thing in that piece of shit is the Bluray drive and you can get a decent panasonic, samsung, or hell lg bluray player for a fair amount of money. Nothing extreme like the ps3.

Its kind of hard to recommend a PS3 if you already have a 360, since they both play a lot of the same games. Some upcoming exclusives (*and two that are already out) that I can think of immediately:

Killzone 2
God of War 3
Grand Turismo
Uncharted 2
*Valkyria Chronicles
*Resistance 2

Resistance 2 multiplayer is fun from what I understand. Valkyria Chronicles is just a great game, hands down.

As to what you said about LBP; I bought LBP thinking that I would get into level building. I enjoyed building machines and figuring out design challences in the beta. When I bought the retail product though, I was always to distracted to actually sit down and crank out material. That being said, I really enjoyed going through the single player, and I enjoy jumping into the multiplayer world and exploring levels with random people. Its charming in a hard to describe way.
I didn't get what I originally though I would out of my purchase, but I'm having fun in a different way, and don't regret the purchase.

I guess the best thing I can do is describe how I view both consoles.

The Xbox is great if you have a network of friends, and enjoy playing multiplayer games. I owned an xbox for two years, and enjoyed the experience. It seem to me though, that the xbox "culture" is one that is constantly moving on to the next thing, and I always had an urge to buy and play the latest games. I averaged about 1.5 games every two weeks.

The PS3 is a more isolated experience for me. All the networking infrastructure isn't there, but what is there works well enough and its always improving. I tend to be more of a loaner when it comes to playing games, so the lack of social features doesn't really bother me. i also don't have the urge to constantly but new games. The ones I have offer enough stimulation, to where I don't feel like I need something new.

The people who play online don't seem to be a "vocal" as the Xbox Live community, but for me thats a good thing.

Just some extra notes: The new PS3 headset is top-notch. A lot better than any alternative on the market right now.

Also, I have as much fun from the exclusive downloadable PSN titles as I do from the regular $60 games. i don't know if downloadable content is something that your interested in, but I though it would be something to mention.

Boils down to games for me, that's about it. Have a 360 already, but some of the PS3 games are rather alluring. Would love to play Drake & Ratchet n' Clank 3, but am not ready throw that much dough on a PS3 just to play some of the exclusives it has *yet*.

BluRay is nice and all sure, but I'm not an HD snob. Have a big new 47" HD an regular DVDs are just fine for me.

"we still get almost every game that the PSN gets"

Not really, some PSN exclusives are:

pixel junk games
Wipeout
SOCOM
Warhawk
Everyday shooter
Soldner X
The Last Guy
Flow
*Flower
Echochrome
Elefunk
*Fat Princess
Loco Roco
Super Stardust HD

I'm not going to go into PS1 games. Because both systems have some back-catalogue items available.

Xbox Life also (obviously) has games the PSN doesn't, but he already knows what those are.

(* = upcoming)

Well, this IS the generation of multiplatform games. Most big games, with a few notable exceptions, will come out for both.

A big question is whether or not you have an HDTV, and care about Blu-ray. If you do, the PS3 is the best Blu-rau player you can have. Also, if you're not too big into the multiplayer games, maybe the PS3's more isolated experience can draw you in. And, truth be told, some multiplat games play a bit better on the PS3, though it really just boils down to the control you prefer. Maybe not $399 better, though.

I have a PS3, and I'm completely satisfied with it. Uncharted is great, Warhawk is surprisingly good, and Metal Gear Solid may very well be my favorite game of all-time (competing with LoZ:OoT for that title). But then, I happened to have the money to burn.

Let me sum it up:

Do you have an HDTV?

Are you picky with your controls?

Are you interested in Blu-ray?

Do you believe that some games are "system sellers"?

Do you have the extra cash, without any financial hardships possibly arising in the near future?

If you can answer "yes" to all these questions, I say go ahead and make the purchase; I'm confident you'll be satisfied. IF YOU CAN ANSWER "NO" TO ANY OF THEM (ESPECIALLY THE LAST ONE), YOU MAY WANT TO RECONSIDER. At least for the time being.

Well, a heck of a lot of good opinions. Thank you guys so much. I will take what all of you said into consideration. I think I might just pick one up sometime next year after the alleged price drop. That will give me some time to come to a decision, but for now, i am fine with my 360. Thanks again.
And for those with Xbox Live, add me! (Gamertag: choshmayonaise)

ludology is the study of games and play activity.

Ludological would be a method of studying games, from the view that games should be understood on their own terms

I consider myself to be an amateur Ludologist.

It's not worth the upgrade?:

Bigger Screens
Better Speakers
12% Thinner
SD Card slot for more storage
256mb of Internal Memory for DSiWare games
DSi Shopping Channel
2x VGA Cameras
5 Brightness settings (not 4)

So a new DS with bigger screens, 2 cameras, internal storage, downloadable games/content, expandable memory, better audio and overall thinner isn't worth it? If i was much of a DS gamer, i'd trade-in my DS-Lite for a DSi instantly.

@Foetoid

Yes the DSi is better in all those places, but it is missing the GBA slot that the Lite has.

Makes the choice pretty difficult for me.

Hmm, I don't really study that much, even during finals week. I think that's somewhat of a common trait among CS majors, though. ...I might be a bit more extreme in that regard than others, however...
