After watching a couple of youtube videos, I got it. Unfortunately, I have few friends, none of whom have Wii Speak, so there's still some functionality that is vague. (For example, when you're in the Lobby, do friends avatars show as active when they log on to their chatroom or only the lobby? Also, I've seen claims that you can have any number of people in a chat, which I thought was limited to 4 consoles.)

I don't find it any weirder than using the 360 headset because I don't really have to talk much louder, even sitting 12+ feet away on the sofa.

While you can run it in the background of games, I see it as still great for hooking up and coordinating games with friends.

I would think the Thursday game night would be a great test for Wii Speak's abilities.

It's good for the voice messages. I can finally send a few different people a message instead of typing "Do you have...?" 10 times.
Otherthan that, I haven't been able to really see the other features because nobody is on at random times in the day.

My dad figured out how to use it, so now I get 3-4 messages a day asking how to use other features of the Wii. *sigh*

It is pretty spiffy, though. :)
