FFXI for PS3 not just fantasy (but no longer reality)

Hey, did you hear the one about the giant RPG powerhouse who wanted to put its flagship franchise's MMO on the PlayStation 3 ... but then the Sony representative they were talking to quit? And the company never tried to to resume talks with another rep? Man, that's funny.

... what's that you say, 1UP? That's really what happened to Final Fantasy XI on the PS3? No way, you're pulling our chain, who told you that? FFXI Hiromichi Tanaka? Man, now it's even funnier, but in that sad way. We suspect he's joking, or there's a lot more to this story. Still, it doesn't sound like FFXI will be coming to PS3 anytime soon.

For the FFXI players on PC, Xbox 360 and HDD-equipped PS2 versions, keep an eye out for three new expansions, each coming sometime in 2009.

at least we still have FF13 Versus which will be better because of Tetsuya Nomura and FF13 won't start development until they're done with the Ps3 version so good look on getting the game before 2010 go ahead Xbots vote me down

Fuck exclusives. They don't make sense for the gamers and I bet with the current state of the economy, they are making less and less sense to the developers.

PC/XB360 = No it never was an exclusive.

Exclusives are necessary for competition. It might be nice to be able to play everything on one console, but the industry needs them to grow.

They're called "first party" titles. Other than that, I see no reason why the industry "needs" exclusives. For any other publisher, why would you NOT publish cross platform?

Also, if you have a Backwards compatible PS3, the PS2 version of FFXI will work on the PS3

Yes. Enough that we have three more expansions on the way.

FFXI is the kind of game you can only be good at if you don't ever need to sleep and you have a lot of time to kill (Torture, fry, stab, decapitate, eat then spit, beat with a meat club ,electrocute , incinerate etc etc )

no, i just never heard of it before.

It's cool. I play FFXI on my PS3 using the PS2 software.

i still think of buying it from time to time. not sure if i'd just use the ps2 or 60gig ps3

anyway the graphics wouldnt look any better than the Ps2 or pc version if a ps3 optimized version came out. The xbox version doesnt look any better than the ps2 or pc version anyway, its just capable of HD resolutions

From what I saw, all hundred-something of you are waiting for a group, too.

The ps3 has a downloadable patch hidden in the marketplace somewhere that allows ps2 games that can use the HDD to.. use the HDD. like that socom game that had the downloadable maps. Cant you just use that to play ff11 on the ps3?

All you need is a PS3 that's not manufactured anymore and some obscure patch that may or may not exist.

Next month, SOE annouces Everquest: Online Adventures for the Playstation 3. To play it, you just pry open your PS3 and replace its motherboard with one from a PS2. You've already got one anyway, right?

In doing that Dave, you'd have access to 10x more decent games without sacrificing much power.

It's just a whole new game

Between the two last updates (level sync, upping solo xp gain, and Fields of Valor) this game is totally different than when I started it 8mo ago. Those two things (among a myriad of others) have really made the game way more approachable for new players. Dare I even say "fun"?

Few things they've p!ssed on us with... like gimping the NPC

I want a PS3, but I know that a lot of my game play will be FFXI, but since I can't play it on the PS3 no more.. why even bother buying one? When I'm still going to have to power up my PS2 in order to play. Why doesn't SE just make a PS3 disc with all the expansions for release for us who don't have the older PS3 so we can continue to play on the PS3?
