I'd just like to point out that a few is generally 3-5 and a couple is 2.

I for one have not had a single problem with Gears. Good for them. I had to wait a bit for matchmaking once, and that was all. Other than that, I love the new game modes and options. Wingman is nice, horde, and the option to hone skills with bots, new maps, and everything. Yes, it plays like Gears 1, but what about Halo? All 3 games played the same, with only minor tweaks here and there. I doubt Gears will sell as much or be as popular as Halo 3, but it is a superior product in my eyes. Go Epic. Bring on the DLC. I will actually buy it without complaining (most likely).

It plays similar enough to be able to tell one is the sequel to the other.

No..the multiplayer plays nothing like gears 1. At all. In the slightest bit.

Epic did what should never be done to a popular multiplayer game, changed everything.

Imagine if the same was done for COD or Halo or whatever your favourite multiplayer game happens to be.

So you are telling me that if you played Gears 1, then Gears 2, you would not be able to say they are 2 games in the same series? That is just dumb. I can play CoD4, then WaW, and say they are in the same series of games even though I do not like WaW. I am not blind to the fact that they are similar. Same with Gears. You may not like 2 as I do not like WaW, but they are none-the-less similar. Maybe it is because I played the hell out of CoD4 and 5 just feels different. Same with you and Gears. Still though, they are similar. Similar does not mean same.

How about the fact that direct hits from many guns don't stop the chainsaw? the shield glitch that allows people to use shotguns with it? No way to know anymore who it is that has a horrible connection, and being forced to play POS modes like Guardian when you want to play ranked modes?

Like I said, I play casually, not ranked. I have not had problems with the shield shotgun combo, and the chainsaw thing is not a problem. If they patch it fine, if not, I don't care. Basically, the problem lies with ranked games mostly. Since I do not play them that often, it obviously does not affect me as much as others. Hence, I hold to my original statement that I love the game and am glad it is doing well.

@ DBoyFlex:

I just want to add to the already majority and say that Gears 2 is NOT Gears 1 with a fresh coat of paint. If it was, it wouldn't be so easy for me to put in Gears 1 and find a match instantly.

Gears 2 has great features like Horde but overall it's no where near what the first one was like.

And as for Halo 3, I think keeping it the same with tweaks and new weapons / maps was the SMARTEST thing for Bungie to do. Everyone bitches that Halo 3 is just Halo 2 with a new coat of paint and guess what, that's what the games players wanted!

Us Gears 1 players didn't want all the drastic changes introduced into the 2nd one and I'm actually turned off a bit.

- Host advantage STILL exists, it's just masked
- Chainsaws are overpowered
- Major glitches still exist
- Matchmaking is flawed and makes it impossible to stay with people you JUST met (unlike Halo 3)
- Story mode is so cliched it's actually insulting
- Characters have lost their original charm by "filling shoes" now rather than just being charming

... there's more but I just don't feel like going on and on.

Also, be sure I am not attempting to say that everybody else who has had a different experience is wrong. I am not oblivious to the huge number of threads about problems. As should be expected, my original post is the game as I have experienced it. I am not going to refer to problems I myself have not had, nor am I going to say the game is problem free if I have had problems. For me, I have not experienced most of the encountered problems, so I stick with above as MY experience. Everybody has their own stories to tell. This is mine.

I guess I need to say it AGAIN. From MY experience. Holy shit. I did not say it was perfect. In MY experience! it has been fine. Good lord you people need to chill and stop trying to tell me that the game sucks when I don't find that to be the case.

Gears of War 2 is total jizz. It's buggy and inconsistent, which are exactly the problems the second iteration of the game was supposed to fix. Sigh.

I loved Gears 2, and have had little to no problems with it. Flawless single player, but a few issues connecting to multiplayer matches and a little lag with maybe 1 out of 20 matches. Nothing to upset me at all, though.
Man, 3 million copies in 4 weeks, the top selling comic of 2008, a tie-in novel that premiered on the New York Times bestseller list, a very successful toy line, a movie deal... Gears is inches away from being a full-on pop culture phenomenon.

Gears 2 was a true disappointment I don't care what anyone says I deleted people off my friends list who argued differently once I beat it on all modes for the story that was it just plain boring and the sotry had the weirdest bugs. The multiplayer? WOW! That alone made me trade it in for FALLOUT 3 never been happier.

I think dabilee01 is commenting on your terrible use of punctuation and grammar which is attributed to your American public education.

His disappointment in the American school systems stems from your amazing grammar and punctuation, not from you disliking a video game. (And the fact that you didn't pick up on that really only confirms said disappointments) In your original post, you went on for about a paragraph before you saw fit to put in any punctuation. Forgetting stuff like that makes your posts hard to read.

LOL Oh god forgive me for my grammar on a comment I wrote about a VIDEO GAME I had no idea this was school and I was SUPPOSE to write correctly so people educated (unlike me) could understand. What's that god? Oh yes I believe they are foolish as well to judge on grammar for a gaming site not an online G.E.D or anything of the sort.

Seriously who the hell judges your grammar on a gaming site? I thought this site was to get away from stuff like that? You want to teach school then go to college and huzzah your on your way to being a teacher just now most students will throw an apple at you just to be an ass.

Gears 2 is only selling well because Gears 1 was so awesome. Unfortunately, they screwed up big time on Gears 2...MP experience sucks big time. Game mechanics is horrible now and the matchmaking sucks!!!
All I can say is that I'm back to playing Gears 1...and so are most of the people I use to play with. Enough said.

same here - i played 3 matches last night, & experienced so much lag that the only way to get kills was to constanly hold the B button to have the chainsaw running while walking around the map.

when i got my 2nd laggy game, i thought it was my connection - ran a speed test & it said my connection was 13500kbps.

all i can say is that Epic have done a poor job with the multiplayer aspect so that anyone outside of the USA get a shitload of lag.

i have no idea why Epic wouldn't have had a localization option in the multiplayer settings so we can vs people in the same country as us to minimize lag.
or even use dedicated servers!

once again i find myself going back to Gears 1.

Yeah I traded GOW 2 (hence forth in this comment known as POS 2) for L4D and my god I'm glad I did. Trying to play multiplayer was a joke, mainly because of the glitchers/eploiters with their shotgun technique, a.k.a instagib. A real disgrace. POS 2 is supposed to be an improvement on GOW 1 and it just isn't, including the lack-lustre campaign (sure, there are some neat bits but its all a bit yawnsome) - I will DEFINITELY be holding off buying GOW 3 until the first patch comes out, if I end up getting it at all..
