Poor Rygar. It's taking longer than expected to remember where he misplaced his "Diskarmor." And let's face it, without his trademark weapon, Tecmo's mythical hero is just another muscle-bound oaf with bad hair. That's probably why the company has delayed Rygar: The Battle of Argus, with the upcoming Wii-exclusive now set to slice through retail shelves next February.
The delay is the second that the game, which was expected impact player's muscles this week, has suffered, and while no official reason was given, 1UP theorizes that Tecmo simply wanted to keep the title from being lost in the holiday shuffle. Tecmo is expected to make an official announcement soon regarding the delay. Until then, we suggest Rygar check the freezer (we've found our car keys in there more than once).

That's really weird, it's already gotten some reviews.
It'll be lost in the shuffle no matter when it's released, at least now tons of people will be in the stores. Give it a cool cover and it could do ok.

I used to love Rygar in the arcade, and to a lesser degree on NES, but I don't think I've even heard of this before.

What is there to figure out? The Wii is literally an enhanced Gamecube (to the point Gamecube devkits have been used to develop Wii games). If someone could competently develop for the Gamecube last gen, they would have no problems developing for the Wii now. There aren't any hurdles to jump over, no vastly different or exotic architectures to learn.
Developers don't need to figure out how to make Wii games since they already possess that knowledge. Sadly, it's just easier, cheaper, and more profitable to release sub-standard games (95% of the Wii library) that'd make a Dreamcast weep in embarrassment. This wouldn't be the case if people actually gave a rat's ass about quality, but the masses are willing to forgo good gameplay in favor of waggle. The Wiimote's use can be innovative, but the it's just a cheap, tacked on gimmick that works no where near as well as it should most of the time. While it's true that the other platforms (PC, Xbox 360, PS3) have their share of turds, the Wii definitely leads the pack.
Until people demand quality, there's absolutely no pressure on developers to change their shovelware ways and the trend will, consequently, continue unabated. You say 2009 is the year of the Wii, but I don't see much of a difference compared to the previous 2 years.

Rygar was the God of War before GoW is a good game but GoW improved a lot of things.

It got pretty abysmal scores from IGN the other day, I think. Hopefully they'll use this extra month or two to make it ACTUALLY GOOD. Or not.

I'm really struggling to think of an upcoming Wii game that has any real buzz. I miss the early days pouring 50 hours into Twilight Princess and chomping at the bit for Galaxy, Prime 3, and Smash Bros. Now what do we have? Dusty Wiis and the promise of "Play on Wii" ports of old Gamecube games? When a port of Rygar is all we have to talk about as Wii fans, there's trouble.

depends on your definition of real buzz. There is nothing truly epic, that we know of, on the Wii's horizon, but there is some serious buzz about Punch-Out!! and Sin & Punishment 2, as well as MadWorld and Tatsunoko vs. Capcom (though the latter may well never see western release)

I continue to state that I'm really enjoying the Wii and am disappointed that some gamers aren't. Did you try World of Goo or have you played Shaun White with the balance board? How about Blast Works or de Blob? For $5 Space Invaders Get Even is fun and dang hard (though it's kind of like a paid demo, it's a good demo!)
The Wii is not a shooter machine, but if you are looking for something that is different, it's a lot of fun.
As far as getting up-coming buzz, a few that seem to be getting some:
MadWorld? The Conduit? House of the Dead Overkill? Sin & Punishment 2?
or in Japan: Monster Hunter 4 and the rumor of DQ9.
or for those who have broad gaming tastes how about:
Cave Story? Wii Sports Resort? Punch Out? MaBoShi?
There been a lot of games to enjoy, and I worry the Wii-hater-bias (WHB) has caused some people to miss out.

I wonder if this means places like IGN will take their reviews down until the game releases then? Or if it'll even change between now and then.
