Donalbane your either really confused or spreading mis-information for some unknown purpose. The quality of the Netflix streaming is bad no matter what your bandwidth, I get T-3 speeds down and it doesn't look good.

It looks good enough to watch somethin I didn't know I was interested in watching. Not good enough to watch something i've been looking forward to. Oh well though, it doesn't stop people from buying MP3s like morons either.

No misinformation here... and I'm not going to accuse you of some nefarious motives just because our experiences have differed. In my experiences, it works perfectly. Sure, I do have a fiber optic connection, but I've never had any problems with it whatsoever, and assure you that if you've got the bandwidth, the quality is fantastic. Watching Heroes in HD made me a real believer. In fact, I called my cable company to cancel some channels because my lady and I weren't watching any TV since Netflix dropped.

If you don't believe me, there really isn't much I can do about it, but rest assured there are people who get great quality from Netflix and have no problems at all with the service. Sorry it didn't work well for you.

I actually did the exact opposite Donalbane. I've had Netflix for years, and was just running out of things to watch, especially on-demand. So I canceled Netflix a few months back and got FiOS TV.

Apparently Blockbuster is working on some new video streaming service, much like Netflix. The rumors are that Sony is going to partner up and support Blockbuster's streaming service, but only time will tell if this is true.

I've been using PlayOn on my PC and streaming Netflix and Hulu full screen to my PS3 for a month or two now and I'm very impressed. It's free to try and $30 to buy, and the support is really great too. Give it a shot if you're really into the Netflix streaming!

the xmb is fine how it is.

you really have to love how they explain things. are these guys attorneys? playing with words to sound good..
when asked about netflix on ps3 he said:

"Our efforts will continue to be there, because our customers want to own the content."

then 1 sentence before that kohler says:

"We've concentrated most of our efforts on our download service, both rentals and downloads of movies and TV shows," Kohler responded

since when did we own rentals?

the truth is sony doesnt have the money to afford bringing netflix service onto PSN and it would probably take a beating on the PSN servers also.
this would cost sony millions of dollars that they dont have on a venture like this now.
of course netflix on ps3 would be great, especially if high-def.

theres no need to say otherwise.. sony always says BS.

since when did ps3 owners buy movies from PSN instead of going on the net to stream anyway>>

Personally I felt that the 360 really needed a facelift, the blades were a pain in the ass.NXE is a major improvement and is much easier to use (but really should let me get rid of the 2 or 3 sections devoted to ads)

As for the PS3,Iv always found it incredibly simple to use in comparrison, and feel as though there is no point messing with a good thing.

Sony is totally out of touch with gamers nowadays. Well, unless that gamer is a PS Fanboy. The PS3 is one hell of a Blu-Ray player though!

why do people think that would hurt Blu-ray Sales.........

I mean if you are the type to BUY movies and want all the extras then thats what you are gonna do......I dont think someone that was gonna buy a BD movie will be swayed from doing so because they can stream it on netflix......if thats the case they would just rent it and send it back......

the funny thing is that he was saying i was dumb and stupid for making these comments. then when they come true he has nothing to say...

only to go crawl back into the dark place he came from. hows the bugs life el serp? haha...

it is truly funny when u make a comment like this now.

serp are you seriously blind to not be able to read the crap in that comment:

We've concentrated most of our efforts on our download service, both rentals and downloads of movies and TV shows," Kohler responded when asked about the potential for Netflix on PS3, adding, "Our efforts will continue to be there, because our customers want to own the content." How about "own some content," for reality's sake?

He's going from saying our ps3 customers want to own content and dont want netflix to in the same paragraph saying we are going to concentrate on our rental and download service...

so he doesnt like netflix rentals, but likes sony rentals??
CONTRADICTING a bit if you ask me....

honestly sony needs to reshuffle these people that make these claims.

Shag-

He is talking about the HD streaming content. It is limited and mostly garbage, but there are some true gems and in my experience look every bit as good as my Comcast HD. I know that comcast HD isn't much to compare it too, but I think you are being overly harsh towards the Netflix HD quality. That said, some of the SD choices really piss me because they arent even in widescreen. All of the Aliens movies for example are in 4:3 and that pisses me off. The least they could do is give us the widescreen versions of theses movies!

I found yer comment, no worries! I use the HD streaming for movies I didn't really want to watch, but if its a movie I'm really looking forward to I will wait to get the physical disk for the ultimate experience.

I think thats pretty much how everyone feels about it. Like you said though you'd have to compare it to Comcasts HD channels and most of those are zoomed in HD content (so they fill the whole screen) and terribly pixelated by the compression.

I'm not saying its unwatchable, just that its no substitute for a good physical disc or OTA.

well it seems to be the case that MS must have some kind of limited exclusivity agreement with netflix for instant streaming, at least as far as video game consoles are concerned. if 360 wasn't the only console w/ netflix, there wouldn't really be any benefit to MS from having netflix on 360, and in fact netflix kinda undermines MS's current services (why pay $3/ep. for heroes or 30 rock, when you can watch it for next to nothing?).

but eventually, i think netflix will come to ps3 (after MS's exclusivity period runs out). when it gets to the point where many devices (360, various BD players, tivo, etc.) have netflix streaming, it will be disadvantageous for ps3 not to have the feature -- people may go with some other device because of that difference, whether they're looking for a BD player or game console.

i knew i needed to install games i buy(too long as hell) but demo's come on, i can understand having to install games(2xbluray) but why would it not take you too install when you start the game for the 1st time, the only thing i can point to is the difference between the companies(one being a software company the other hardware. cause even if you had to install a game the console should auto start install on something that is mandatory.....i love something(hardware and media functions) and hate somethings (UI, installs). can you think about xmas morning open gift...setup console..then install...download updates...then play games, who thought that would be fun..

the 360 also install demo it just do it faster. the ps3 require game installs when the 360 don't because the developers are probably porting the game to the ps3 and not making use of straming technology. the blu-ray laser is much slower on a greater part of the disc so to avoid long load times ps3 devs just make installs mandatory. not every game do this though and I say look at uncharted as an example.

look how long dvd technology have been around compare to blu-ray. it is a technology thing. there are way to get around it but most developers do not use these exotic technique on the ps3.

microsoft strength is software sony is hardware. this is why the 360 do many thing faster but also why the hardware have the most high failure rate in history. its like asking why the 360 rrod and the ps3 dont. sony make hardware but not great at making software. microsoft good at software but not hardware. this not apply to game but thing like downloads, installs etc.

I have been enjoying Netflix and Hulu on my PS3 for months thanks to PlayOn. If you have a Netflix subscription and own a PS3, then PlayOn is the best $30 you can spend. I rarely have problems with it, which is really good considered they just got out of beta. I highly recommend it if you can't tell.

Also, TVersity works really well also for streaming my videos, music, and pictures to my PS3. I dropped my cable TV subscription completely because TVersity, PlayOn, uTorrent, and PS3 allow me to never miss a thing.

If they're not working on a New Playstation Experience, then what the hell is Home? Other than, y'know, a complete waste of time that nobody will use after the initial novelty of "Hey, shiny virtual world" wears off. That will take about 20 minutes, incidentally.

why does everyone hate on Home so much?

Home is going to be used as a social networking app that adds much of the functionality of the NXE, like Party Chat and Group Game Launching. im in the Beta now and i enjoy my time spent in it. sure it's not completely finished as alot of the features aren't activated yet, but they are all there already, just grayed out.

it wont be a system seller but it will be very useful.

Social Networks exist because they're more efficient ways of interacting with large numbers of people or large groups of people. Virtual Worlds like Second Life are the *antethesis* of that.

Home is *not* a social networking app. Home is a Second Life knockoff with the PSN social networking features that should be built into the XMB bundled into it instead.

i hope to god they dont touch the XMB. it's perfect imho. the NXE is fine (minus the ads) but i certainly prefer the simplicity and usability of the XMB. now if they want to add more features to it, be my guest, but dont mess with it otherwise.

im not a Netflix user (my connection sucks) so i really dont have an opinion on that other than i would probably just use PlayOn since both my PS3 and 360 could use that to play Netflix, alot with a host of other stuff.

XMB is ok, although I would copy two things from xbox to streamline things:

- Make it easier/quicker to check on your friends and new messages. That info is available immediately on xbox, no scrolling around to see it.

- Make the PS button context sensitive, if you get notification of a friend/message/trophy, pressing the button takes you right there.
