I don't care what you people say, DQVIII kicked ass, and I can't wait for IX or X.

Damn. Now I have to choose between Final Fantasy XIII and Dragon Quest X. This is the day I hoped would never come.....

A serious question: as someone who is thinking about buying a Wii but has a bizarre neurological condition that renders his hands basically useless for doing anything more complex than giving a high-five, can the games be played without the motion controls? Because as it is, it is actually impossible for me to play a Wii game with the motion controls. But I thought I heard something about a "classic controller"? What's that about?

some games can be played waggle-free, some can't

i guarantee there will be waggle mini-games in this game though, and maybe even some of it in battles. sorry dude.

You can't really guarantee that. :P Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World didn't have any obligatory motion control, as far as I know.

Wii "won" this generation of consoles. No this is another chapter in the complete destruction of the Sony Playstation brand name in Japan.

can't imagine any positive waggle in this game

I own both a Wii and a 360...and I agree with Roto.

Cause you know, I play games because they are fun. Not because they look awesome on my new HD set.

But given a hypothetical choice between good graphics and average graphics, you'd always choose the good graphics wouldn't you? Graphics can also make a game more fun, a beautifully rendered epic boss with particle effects and what not can make the game more fun.

Why the hell am I even arguing this? Better graphics = good, everybody knows this.

And in my opinion, the better graphics can make this game funner than some waggle.

Jesus people, you're acting like I said I wouldn't buy it anymore just because it's on Wii (I own one btw), I just stated my preference of better graphics over whatever waggle could be implemented in the game... yet by the downvotes I can tell you all think I'm a graphic whore/anti-Wii troll.

Don't act like you didn't love the graphics in DQ8 and would've loved it just as much if it looked like a PS1 game.

' Better graphics = good, everybody knows this"
I'm really, really hoping that's a sarcastic comment.

Oh don't get me wrong, I'm not saying graphics aren't important. However I find gameplay far more important than eye candy. And besides, good graphics don't mean shit if the gameplay isn't there(as we've learn from multiple current-gen games).

I hear ya Slaziman, but why not just by-pass the HD consoles and put it on a high end Pc? I mean if you're going to pass on the Wii, the console with the highest user base just to up the graphics why bother with the HD consoles at all?

By the time this comes out in a year or two the HD consoles will look antiquated compared to what could be done on a pc.

So what real gamer would want to play DQ 10 on a dusty old HD console when they could be playing it on a real gaming platform with real graphics like the PC, right?

Now you are just being silly. I'm not comparing weak graphics and strong gameplay with strong graphics and weak gameplay am I? (unless you think a lack of waggle means weak gameplay). I know that gameplay is more important than graphics.

But good graphics are always an added bonus, and when the sacrifice for it (waggle) won't be missed, then why the hell not? It's not like having better graphics / running on better hardware will magically turn the gameplay into a steaming pile of shit (I'd even argue the contrary, with your fancy physics and AI's and what not). They aren't mutually exclusive.

Maybe you misunderstood me and thought I meant a game with better graphics is instantly good? I just meant that better graphics make a game better. If a game with amazing graphics is a turd gameplay wise, it's bad, but with shitty graphics it would've been even worse.

Because a Xbox 360/PS3 only release wouldn't be crazy financially, whereas a PC-only sounds batshit insane to me, with piracy and small user base with high end PC's.

I mean, sure, I got a nice PC, I can hook it up to a nice TV and use a wireless gamepad, and it'll be even better. But that sounds like a lot of hassle, and when looking at the price of a high-end PC compared to the 360 (or even a PS3) it hardly seems worth it.

Yeah it would make sense to put DQ 10 on the ps3 or xbox 360 as apposed to the pc because it will reach more people.... So it could also be argued that it makes even more sense to put it on the wii. The install base there is huge and growing at an insane speed..

Exactly Slaziman. What I mean is the improved graphics of a pc version (though nice) are not worth the extra effort or money to you.. the graphics on the HD consoles are good enough for this game.

That's the way some people feel about the 360/PS3 and Wii.. The graphics will be good enough to them that they don't feel the need to invest time or money into another gaming platform..

and well DQ has always been on the most popular/least powerful console.

All these people dissing the 'fanboys' just goes to show that the real fanboys are the sadist Wii-owners.

Slazi's point is obviously that if the game came out for both the Wii and the PS3 with EXACTLY the same gameplay, wouldn't you rather pick up the graphically better PS3 version? Even if you think better graphics are a marginal negligible difference, it's still a valid argument to get the PS3 version. But since it isn't happening it's a mute point. No need to get all exited about it.

On a side note, I don't know how much more DQ I can handle, all the DS ports, IX and now X. I love the archaic rpg gameplay, but it's getting close to overkill.

I specifically said "people with a Wii and either of the other consoles" would prefer the game on a PS3 or 360. If you only have a Wii and don't want to invest in another console it's another story. The difference between Wii user base and 360 user base isn't on the same level as the difference between the 360 user base and the high end PC user base anyway.

Basically, it's not extra effort or money, if you already own both consoles, which was my original point. Read for god's sake.

If the Wii was cheaper than the 360 you might have a point, but sadly that isn't the case. Quite the opposite. I don't really understand what the heck you're trying to say. That because I was talking about rather having a game on the cheaper, more powerful console, I should instead spend 1000$ on a high-end PC? Lolwut.

The real villains are those who make everybody believe that the only way to play high-end PC games is to pay $1000 or more.

Also, I own a PS3 and a Wii, and I don't care what it's on. In fact, I prefer the Wii because it means a cheaper cost to me and more focus on gameplay over shiny graphics. You know, HD graphics don't just come out of people's asses, they cost more money to make.

It's last-gen hardware. Yes, the fancy schmancy accelerators too.

But it is a current-gen console, as it's being sold this generation. But what does that make the still-selling PS2? Last-gen because of the PS3? ah well.

'In fact, I prefer the Wii because it means a cheaper cost to me and more focus on gameplay over shiny graphics.'

Classic Wii-fan argument. Not working on better graphics doesn't necessarily mean the developers will invest more time on the ‘gameplay’. By the way, DQ’s gameplay has been the same for ages, so what the hell are you talking about? And if you own a PS3, what do you mean lower costs, the 10 extra bucks the disc costs?

Dragon Quest has never been about the graphics, I understand that, the gameplay has never been anything really special either. The stories are never super epic and full of twist, just the classic hero trying to save the world. DQ is all about the heart, you get a really familiar warm feeling playing the game. And STILL I would have liked a graphical update, just to make it feel more new. Shiny HD slimes would have been nice.
