Rock Band 2 for the Wii looks to be doing so many things right, especially when compared to the original's more lackluster release. The best news we got from IGN's preview is that the game is compatible with all the instrument peripherals on the system to date -- Guitar Hero 3, GH World Tour and the original RB (natch). The Official Joystiq Instrument Compatibility Matrix has been updated.
On a related note, we've heard your thoughts and suggestions for how we can make the ICM (as we affectionately call it) better, and we promise more update are on the way soon.

Good question; one I'd like to know myself. I'd rather just buy drums instead of drums AND a wii remote.

So you rather plug a stupid dongle in the back of your Wii instead of poping in a Wii Remote in the Controller .
For me i rather plug in a Wii Remote than swapping out my keyboard cable for a stupid dongle which could get lost even thru thing's rarely gets lost with me .
So i congratulate Red Octan for there smart move .
Besides which why go for Rockbans cheap instruments when Guitar Hero's are likly to last even thru most would suffer due to abuse & then those abusers would abuse the manufacture for the defect .

To be quite frank, I don't care how the instruments connect to the console, just that they work. I prefer Rock Band. I'd like to give GH a spin, but not at the price point for a full kit, to say nothing of the fact that I don't have the room for multiple kits =)
In the meantime, I'll continue buying Rock Band games, and when (if!) Activision pulls its head out of its ass and makes games that are 100% compatible with RB instruments, I may consider buying it.

Question, I'm finally diving into the whole Rockband/GHWT craze. Right now, I'm leaning towards RB2 (Xbox360). What should I buy and why? Which is better overall instrument wise?

RB2 > GH: WT.
I liked the huge amount of DLC RB2 had (Laid to Rest = best $2 I've ever spent..ever), the instruments felt much more solid and real*, and it was much more fun playing it with friends than playing GH: WT with friends do to the easier user-interface.
As for the drums, don't let the cymbol and hi-hat on the World Tour drum set fool you. I play drums in real life and I wasn't impressed. I found it to be worst than the Rock Band set, to be honest. The hi-hat and cymbols feel cheaply made and I don't like how the pads are set-up. I had this overwhelming fear I was going to crush the hi-hat and fuck up the set. At least with the 4 pads on the RB set they didn't feel like they were going to break/snap off.
As for the guitar, it came down to the second set of buttons/frets. On Guitar Hero they have this strip that let's you "wha" the notes which sounds great on paper, but not-so-much in practice. The frets bars that divide the frets on the strip were so thin that I usually missed it entirely and hit blue when I wanted yellow or something to that degree. At least with RB the smaller frets have some sort of way of being able to easily tell the difference between frets.
No one cares about the mic so I won't even go on about it. I will say though that, if this long wall of text isn't enough for you, just head out to best buy and try each game out. I think most best buys now have Rock Band 2 and World Tour demod next to each other for the sole reason of helping someone like yourself decide which to buy.

I have a small doubt about this new release... you see I have Rock band for wii and guitar hero III (only the guitar). If I buy only the software of RB2 (the disk, not the instruments of RB2) will the instrument I have (the guitar) of the guitar hero III be playable with the instruments of Rock band 1?...
Kind mixed up right? I must Know before I make a big mistake, please help :(
