Home open beta begins tomorrow

It's been a long wait, but we're finally all going Home. SCEE has announced that the service will be available to everyone starting tomorrow. From the looks of it, there'll be no firmware update involved. The Home icon should simply appear under the PSN section of the XMB after a system reboot. As for what content you can expect to see once the open beta begins, there'll be plenty more than in the current closed beta, with more coming soon.

The Far Cry 2 game space will make a return and new content, such as clothing from Diesel, furniture from Ligne Roset and the Red Bull Air Race space will appear. Game spaces for Uncharted, Warhawk and SOCOM will follow "vey soon." Watchmen movie content has also been announced via the press release, including "an exclusive video greeting from Watchmen Director Zack Snyder as well as the latest Watchmen trailer. A selection of virtual Watchmen merchandise e.g. T-Shirts with the smiley face logo, Doomsday clocks and character statues, will also be available in the New Year, ahead of an exclusive Q & A event where cast and filmmakers will meet selected press and competition winners fans within the Watchmen themed environment. "

Yay! Sooner than I thought lol, I'm in the closed Beta at the moment so I'm thinking the new features of the Open Beta will just add an update on when you start up Home from the XMB. Cant wait for that Socom Spaces/ Will that space be open to only the US as their only ones who actually have Socom Released.....

i'm in the closed beta too but good to hear that it's finally coming out as an open beta (yeah literally, "finally"). everyone in the closed beta, hurry up and buy all the free stuff! dunno if they'll become pay items starting tomorrow or not.

I haven't logged into the closed beta since Turkey Day.

They updated it a few days ago with a bunch of free stuff. Stuff that will likely start being charged for soon.

I'm a HOME virgin, can't wait to jump in tomorrow! Shame I'm gonna be at work most of the day. What do we reckon 12:00am reboot? - doubt it.

My money is on not getting in till after work.

I knew it...

You have your expectations too high. I think by the time they perfected it and rolled it out, it would be 2011...they can't just sit on their hiney and wait. So to me, it'll be a work-in-progress for awhile.

I just hope that in-game chat (especially private chat between multiple people) will become available in the near future. that's primarily what's missing from the XMB right now.

As a closed beta tester, im stoked for more content. Bring it on.

im also in the beta will the open beta still want the 3 gb reserve of hard drive ? seeing as the home sign just appers on the xmb? and i wonder if i deleted the beta would i keep all the stuff i got for free?

It's not the hype, it's misconceptions of what Home actually is. People are expecting to enter Home and have Sony entertain them for a few hours a day.

Home has plenty of ability to deliver. Whether or not there's content *in* Home that delivers what people expect is another story.

I'm in the closed beta and I don't get the point of Sony repeatedly saying "we removed x, y and z but will put it back when the beta opens". Well, what's the point of the beta again? To test stuff or to give us an empty shell to breakdance in?

I'll pass judgment on Home when i have tried it, but i have a feeling i agree with Rich on this. And i don't think it makes either of us a retard.

Firstly yes, it does make it cool. Secondly if you look at Rich's other comments you will see that he is in fact, a retard. The reason I said that though is because home isn't a sandbox game at all and saying it "sucks" because it's not a good sandbox game is just stupid. You're entitled to your own opinion but I think HOME looks pretty good for something that's free even if I only go on it to check out new game spaces every now and then.

What exactly is a retard? I was always under the impression that a retard was someone with severe mental disabilities, like a down syndrome sufferer for example.

In the respect, it's seems impossible to guage if someone is infact 'retarded' simply by reading a text comment on the internet.

Perhaps, but you still need to load it as it only appears when you are logged into PSN anyway. So if you got access to the closed beta, they'll have just activated your account to allow you to see it. Now everyone will be able too.

There's still lots to load/download when you first start it.

it takes up over 3gb once you install each location within Home(which occurs the first time you visit)

nah it didnt work.....

but it HAD to be included in prior firmware update if its just gonna pop-up tomorrow after a restart......no download from the store or anything.......

Semantics. If they call it a final release and it's a complete POS, naturally people will be pissed.

If it's an "open beta", even if there are problems, we're supposed to inherently forgive them b/c of the very nature of release...

If you can ignore the fact that Home is currently a massive sausage-fest, it's perfectly fine as a place to shoot the breeze and meet other players. It's not intended to be a game (if it is, it's only as a momentary distraction while waiting for people).

like everything else in life, it's ideal to have balance. So no, I wouldn't want a pussy-fest either, lol. None of my gamer friends are girls, so perhaps I'm fortunate not to have encountered such cockiness.
