No, you should be able to.

If nothing else, you can manually update the channel.

I know that homebrew != piracy, but really... in the real world, is there any use to this besides pirating games? I've heard you can also play DVDs with it, but, like every other person in America, I've already got a DVD player.

So for someone who doesn't pirate games is there any reason to install the homebrew channel?

Import games.
I bought Captain Rainbow just last week and am going to be picking up Klonoa and Tatsunoko vs Capcom this week.

I have no interest in pirating games, personally. I get a certain sense of value out of actually paying for them. When I have obtained them illegally, it never felt the same...like it was a cheap freebie and made it seem all the more forgettable.
Plus I like having the complete package, which includes any cases or boxes.

gee I dunno, maybe for running:

Linux
Ports like Quake, Doom, etc.
Emulators, like that PSX emu that's just on the horizon
ScummVM

There's plenty of stuff besides the pirating. Heck, the "soft" pirating doesn't even work that well anyway

my question on homebrew, I have wanted to do it for a while but wondered will it affect anything e.g. playing games online or will nintendo brick your system?

yup i was running 3.3 , updated my HBC then updated Wii to 3.4 and all works fine that's a relief,. not that I actually use HBC hardly ever or even the Wii for that matter considering today was the first time it was turned on in over a week

Actually its not really safe yet to update to 3.4 due to the fact that now Nintendo can literately could update your system without your permission, by the way they worded the message for 3.4 update.

But this haven't been confirm so I can't assume. But it never hurts to be safe for protecting your one way ticket to play import games. I'm really looking forward to play TvC.

Yeah, there are a number of homebrew original games for the wii, such really good-looking Picross and Mahjong games and a nice shooter called "Smashing!"

There's some decent original stuff, yes.

Yes, there are original games, and no, so far nothing happens if you try to play online or anything since Nintendo's software isn't that complex, but I think bad things might happen if you try to hack online. At the least you get bad karma ;).

Homebrew channel is awesome for many reasons... number 1 reason will come into full effect tomorrow when Tatsunoko vs Capcom arrives from Play-Asia! :)

I've been considering HBC for awhile, but been a little hesitant as I don't want to mess up my Wii. It looks like everyone has good success with it though so perhaps i'll take the plunge.

When looking over the current changes in the last update though I noticed this one. "Guitar Hero 3 guitar support ".......prior to this update have you not been able to play GH3 on a Wii that HBC was installed on? Or am I reading this wrong?

Any other issues that arise after HBC is installed?

Thanks!!

I can tell you this that installing the HBC on the wii is 100% safe to me. It will not brick your wii and yes, they did install the support controls for Guitar Hero 3.

But naturally it really depends if you install 3.4 or 3.3.
You can do a lot more for 3.3 then 3.4., but some people go for the 3.4. update for system function which is to help your Wii read your SD card faster. But I still really wouldn't recommend updating to 3.4. yet.

So prior to the recent update did GH3 not work? OUCH!
Are there other games that don't work if you install HBC?

No, GH3 does work on the recent update, some application to HBC will not work with 3.4. like watching DVD or AVI, having backup loads on your wii or a having rebooter function to the Gecko OS.

But I'm pretty sure anything that is applied to HBC will work just depends on your update. Right now the only thing I'm using HBC, is to play TvC so Gecko OS is the only think that will work with 3.4.

sorry I meant to say Gecko OS is so far the only i'm using to play imports. But other then that everything works fine
