I wonder if RB2 instruments will work with GH:WT... Because then I might just get a RB drum kit instead of a GH one...

I would think no, since Guitar Hero needs the five pad drum kit.

Didn't Activision saying something about how if you have the RB drums on GH:WT then it would drop the note highway to 4 colors? That would be awesome, because who know when Activision will release their separate drums.

That was for the Xbox 360/PS3 versions of the game.

Exactly, on the PS3 and XBox version of the game, the drum track in GH would drop down to four colors instead of five if you were using a RB kit. I was wondering if anyone know if it worked the same way with the Wii version of the game.

Nope, RB1 drums definitely don't work on Wii GHWT, and since they're not changing the RB2 drums to incorporate a Wiimote like the GH instruments use, there's no reason to believe they'd work in GHWT either.

Looks like if you want to play both games on the Wii, you have to start with the GHWT instruments. Which means this is actually a huge concession, from a business perspective, for Harmonix to basically admit they lost the race to establish supremacy on the Wii. If they thought they had a serious shot at competing with GHWT for Wii bundle buyers, they wouldn't allow compatibility while Activision still doesn't.

I wonder how awkward it will be to use the GHWT drums with Rock Band 2 since there are 5 pads on the GHWT kit and only 4 on the RB2 kit.

This news makes my day, but offers a new question. Assuming Red Octane never gets it together and sends me back my replacement cymbal (5 weeks and counting...), will my one-cymbal GHWT kit work for RB2? I know we know basically nothing about this compatibility - and I won't even really believe it until I see it - but I'm hoping that the plan is for RB2 to recognize a strike on *either* cymbal as a strike on the fourth pad, basically combining them that way.

I mean, I was already planning to buy RB2 disc-only just so I could play the songs and awesome DLC with my Les Paul and WT mic, but this is major-league icing, and - if the first time I get to play a drum song is on RB2 - a healthy dose of irony, too.

I think Rock Band 2 only uses one cymbal, the orange one, so you'll probably be fine.

Ferco, you're almost right, it uses the yellow cymbal. The IGN write-up says the orange cymbal is ignored.

However, if you set the sensitivity high enough with the Activision Drum Tuner Kit, you can hit either cymbal and it will register a hit on both. This would be a nice little work around that I might just have to try.

Crap, I meant to say the yellow one. If you crank up the sensitivity on the cymbals you will get a lot of crosstalk when you hit the pads, thus ruining your streaks.

Yeah, I noticed that too. I played around with it a little, but I might try tweaking it some more. As mine is now it works pretty well, but if you hit either cymbal really hard you have a chance of triggering both. I try not to get carried away with it, but if I set it any lower I still have dropped notes. On the plus side, star power is just one good slam on the orange cymbal to trigger.

If you're missing the yellow cymbal, you can always unscrew the orange cymbal and unplug it from the base (little headphone-style jack on the underside of the cymbal) and move it to the other side of the kit and plug it in there. The game will recognize it as the yellow cymbal.

"IGN tried out the Wii Guitar Hero: World Tour instruments -- and they worked"

Great news! I'm getting GH:WT for Christmas and really want to be able to just buy Rock Band 2 later. Phew!

ME TOO! Exact same situation! I'm so psyched! I love World Tour's instruments a lot better than Rock Band 2's... but I really love RB2's music selection a lot more. This is great news! :D

Now I can play E-Pro with both drums and mic! (I know the song by heart)

I wasn't sure whether to get the Wii versions of these games (DLC) or PS3 versions (instrument compatibility) but this makes my choice a whole lot easier.

You should also ask yourself- do you have enough Wii Remotes if you're going to do 2 or more instruments at the same time?

Well I was only planning on getting a drum set anyway (since I already have my GH III guitar). I have enough Wiimotes for that.

This is such good news. I wanted to get them both, but I wasn't going to because I didn't want to pay for (nor can I store) two drum kits.

I already have a Guitar Hero III Les Paul, so if I buy the Guitar Hero World Tour band kit, I can buy Rock Band 2 separately.

I assume that the original Rock Band doesn't work, then, with the new Guitar Hero instruments, since it didn't work with the guitar.

Following the link now gets:

"US, December 9, 2008 - At the request of companies involved, this article has been removed. We will have more coverage of Rock Band 2 as we near its release date."

I'm not sure I like the sound of that.

So... okay I'm very confused about this whole RB2 and GHWT compatibility issues for Wii. I already have a full RB1 set. Like the drum, mic and guitar. Would any of those work with GHWT? I don't wanna buy the whole new set for GHWT but I love the song selections for it.
1. Would any of RB1 stuff work with GHWT?
2 Would GH3 guitar (forgot the name) would work with RB2?

remember guys i'm talking about Wii ver.

I have the GHWT band kit for Wii (game, guitar, drums, mic) and RB2 (game) and "had" a RB2 guitar.

* First, make sure you get the free drum tuner from Red Octane. I ordered it before Christmas and tuned up the red drum pad when the kids and I opened GHWT for Christmas.

* The GHWT equipment worked fully with RB2 game.

* The RB2 guitar DID NOT work with GHWT . . . and barely worked with the RB2 game. The synch didn't seem to work between the dongle and the guitar. Why the dongle for the guitar and not just a slot for the Wiimote? Wii controllers ARE Bluetooth, no need to make a unique Bluetooth dongle for a system that already is Bluetooth.

* I returned the RB2 guitar and its useless dongle for a full refund.

* After reading this message board, I went to Best Buy and purchased a GHIII guitar on sale for $31.99 (some kind of employee sale special today).

* The GHIII guitar works like a charm with RB2.

Bottom line for us Wii people: buy GH equipment and the RB2 game if you want to play both systems. Personally, I find both GHWT and RB2 to be good, solid games with fun extras.

Just don't buy the crap RB equipment.

I just bought Wii RB2 Kit (Drums, Mic, Guitar and Symbols Add-on), and the GHWT (Wii) Game based upon a Game Stop employee saying that Wii RB2 Instruments will work on both games. The family opened the gifts and we hooked it all up and the Wii RB2 Drum and Guitar Controllers (USB plugged in to Wii) are not recognized by the GHWT Game. The prior post suggests that I should return the setup and exchange it for the GHWT Instruments which will work on the RB2 Game. Is this correct?

Yes Kevin, as stated the GHWT band kit works perfectly with the RB2 game. Additionally, the GHIII and GH Aerosmith guitars work with the RB2 game.

I have both GHWT and RB2 games for Wii and use the GHWT guitar, drums, mic and GHIII guitar to play play both games (GHWT & RB2).

Hope that helps Kevin . . . and good luck!

We have GHWT and are thrilled; play it all the time. However, we bought RB Track Pak Vol. 2 thinking that it would work fine (since RB2 works with the GHWT instruments it would make sense right???!). Unfortunately, I have not been able to get them to recognize anything but the mic.

I am not sure if it something to do with updating/not updating our Wii or whathaveyou. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Nick

Nick,
The compatibility for GH equipment works only with RB2 (and future releases), not pre RB2 titles.

Sorry bud.

Is there a way to get the AC/DC Live for Wii to incorporate into the game of RB2? I know it does incorporate into RB2 on the Xbox 360 format. Is there a patch available or future plans of a patch
