Wii Homebrew Channel turns 1.0

Despite continuing efforts on Nintendo's part to thwart its installation, the Wii Homebrew Channel – which, as its name implies, enables the use of legal, homebrew games and apps on Wii – soldiers on, with development now hitting the version 1.0 milestone.
The big 1.0 brings a slew of changes, updates, and fixes, including support for multiple Wiimotes, the Wiimote's power button, the Classic Controller, and Nunchuk. If you're curious about the Wii homebrew scene and want to try the channel out for yourself, check out this handy-dandy guide.

*bakes cake for Wii Homebrew channel*
I'm glad for the progress, but personally - I still haven't seen anything in the way of homebrew that makes me actually want to use this. Still, the potential is always good.
samfish @ Dec 10th 2008 3:44PM
All the import games that we'll never get in the US, like Captain Rainbow, Tatsunko vs. Capcom or Klonoa?
Gehodra @ Dec 10th 2008 3:45PM
The cake is - nah, I won't be that guy. Someone else will.

McWeen @ Dec 10th 2008 3:33PM
I installed it and never got the region unlock to work correctly. I could give two shits about piracy I just want to play my imported GC games.
Xerloq @ Dec 10th 2008 4:06PM
Where do the rest go? Surely you have more than two!?!
j.howlett @ Dec 10th 2008 9:21PM
that was funny
ScottG13 @ Dec 10th 2008 3:44PM
Leave it to Nintendo to relegate the only interesting thing about their platform to Homebrewers...
KeenCommander @ Dec 10th 2008 3:52PM
I thought that was Sony's job? *cough* PSP *cough*
ScottG13 @ Dec 10th 2008 3:56PM
Like all PSP owners, I'd like some, you know, games, too.

I'm using the latest Wii firmware update; will I be able to install the Homebrew Channel? I've heard that it works if you had it installed before the latest update, but that you're unable to install it if you've already updated.
CJLopez @ Dec 10th 2008 5:12PM
Well, Teamtwiizer released a Twilight hack for the 3.4 firmware, but i hadn't seen or heard of anyone that had used
You are able, yes, 100% sure, not that much but close
Redface @ Dec 10th 2008 5:11PM
How many of you guys use the homebrew channel? Does it work? what about the function that turns the wii region free? How easy is it to install?
CJLopez @ Dec 10th 2008 5:14PM
I use mostly everyday, cuz i'm developing things on the Wii, i hope one day I get to release something solid
Still, Its better to use the gecko os to play imports or use starfall. But you'd rather wait fot the CSM custom firmware that's comming pretty soon
UltimateQ @ Dec 10th 2008 5:37PM
I use it as well. It works 100% as advertised. I enjoy using MPlayer to watch movies off my SD card or enjoy a game of quake.
I don't use the region unlocker.
VGF @ Dec 10th 2008 5:47PM
So, I last updated my firmware a little over a month ago, can I install the homebrew channel?
da governator @ Dec 11th 2008 1:05AM
Wiibrew -- just in time for the Jewiish holidays!
