EGM en Español está muerto
For our unilingual readers whose loose grasp on the Spanish language sent that headline careening over their heads, the Spanish version of EGM is shutting down, according to editorial director Adrián Carbajal. Their upcoming December issue (the one with the Watchmen game on the cover) will effectively serve as their last installment after a little more than six years of publication. It should come as no surprise that the main reason Carbajal cited for the collapse of EGM en Español is the seemingly perilous future of the English language version of the mag. Should yesterday's report that UGO is looking to purchase the 1UP network sans the twenty-year-old EGM come to fruition, it's unlikely that we'll see many more issues of the gaming magazine we tucked oh-so-many times into our Junior High textbooks.
[Thanks, Josué]

And nothing of value was lost.
Dr Jeckyl and Mr ESC. @ Dec 11th 2008 6:55PM

No surprise EGM is going out of business in some areas. The magazine is kind of crap and they sent me 3 free copies every month up until a couple of weeks ago.

NOOOOOOO!!!!

NOOOOOOO!!!! WHY did they kill the spanish version of "Electronic Gaming Monthly"?
Don't care, heck, I didn't even knew it existed before.
Roto13 @ Dec 11th 2008 1:24PM
I haven't bought a magazine in years, but it's still kind of sad to think that EGM likely won't be around much longer. I do have happy memories of it.
Jeremy White @ Dec 11th 2008 1:27PM

and Joystiq killed 1up.com and Ign.com. Oh and their giant 3/4 of a page flash ads. Once you blocked those, the page turned into a tiny cellphone page!
Finito @ Dec 11th 2008 1:46PM
Since EGM is a 'revista' it's feminine, so it should be 'muerta'.
Descansa en paz.
Jkrincon @ Dec 11th 2008 4:39PM
You are totally right, but it is better how it is, it adds to the "Gringo" irony of the title :P
Just kidding.

Jajajajaja, man, loved all those spanish trolls, jajajajajja
Deivore @ Dec 12th 2008 1:25AM
It should be "es muerta," not esta. Esta implies that it's dead for the moment, ie in trouble. "Es" means dead, forever.
Artemisa @ Dec 12th 2008 1:58AM
@ Deivore: Nope, the title is correct (except for the muerta). Es is totally incorrect in that sentence. Es muerta it's like saying: the magazine is female dead person.
Dante G @ Dec 12th 2008 10:09AM
Besides, it's "está" not "esta" (chupas). Joystiq got it right.

Chingada madre, yo compraba EGM >_>
Hasta que agarre band ancha.
(megacable apesta)
Dr Jeckyl and Mr ESC. @ Dec 11th 2008 7:02PM
JuanKRinkon @ Dec 11th 2008 4:36PM
Hey, actually, Vote for Pedro has a point, though, not in the way he intends.
Joystiq, you shoul hardly consider an spanish version of this website, the Latin-American and spanish audience is constantly growing and we need a High Quality website like yours.
I would gladly help! It could be amazing.
Joystiq en español, eso suena bastante bien.

Taco-X and his silly antics will be missed dearly.

Dah! Never did like it. It was always behind on information. I know South America has it's own release time for games, but come on!
¿Que puedo decir? Nunca la compre.

A carajo esa era mi revista favorita and español despues de Club Nintendo =(.
arriba? ARRRRRRRIIIIIBA!!!!!
Dante G @ Dec 11th 2008 7:37PM
Ah, Club Nintendo... Aquellos tiempos... cuando buscabas los rombos...
Wiinterfang @ Dec 11th 2008 7:40PM
Ridgecity @ Dec 11th 2008 7:15PM
Here in Mexico no one buys technology magazines anymore. Everyone has internet or goes to a cybercafé and those are the only ones that could care about them. The Nintendo magazine is in print because it's owned by one of the biggest media companies, and little kids like it. Most "serious" magazines go belly up after a year at most.
I would worry the day Cosmopolitan Magazines stops printing since that would mean that women don't really care "10 ideas on how to please your man in bed" anymore...
Flakundenga @ Dec 11th 2008 7:48PM
Wow didn't even know there was EGM in spanish. Oh well no loss here for me. Besides I always find reading video game terms in spanish awkward (eg. video game console - consola de videojuegos, ect).
Geo @ Dec 12th 2008 12:48PM
Avan @ Dec 13th 2008 1:22AM
Ha! im glad this sub par magazine is dead, the (spanish one) yeah it was trimmed so bad compared to the original that it made me sick more than once, and the editor and most of their staff was way too vulgar and also a lot racist toward the americans
