HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA SONY sucks. Who wants a PSP? Come on now. I would not even give a PSP to my enemy. Thats just wrong. And like totally OMG!!!! LIKE DS ROCKS a little bit..... but playstation in general sucks. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. And why is it that PS3 and 360 cater to the casuals while Nintendo is the only one who concerns themselves with the hardcore? Mario is hardcore. When was the last time Sony and Microsoft put out something for the hardcore gamer? Instead they have casual friendly titles coming out like Gears of War 2 and Resistance 2. I mean come on!! Thank goodness I have soo many hardcore games on my Wii. Rayman Raving Rabbits 2 GOTY!!! WOOT WOOT! Stupid SONY n Microsoft. Not knowing what gamers like us want. We obviously want more party games and minigames. DUH! Idiots I tell you! Idiots!!

Of course they're working on a PSP2. They wont admit it because they just plopped the 3000 on the market, and the slightest hint of a new PSP would deter buyers, something they don't want right before Christmas either.

Leave it to Sony to squander what's actually become a relatively decent brand. A true PSP successor that takes some risks (say, no UMD, all digital downloads), adds BT 2.0, touchscreen, and HDMI, and maybe expands codec support could really be a worthy competitor to both the DS and the iPod Touch.

As it is, the PSP is getting killed by piracy. It's time to cut your losses, Sony, and try again. This time, with feeling... er, security.

Don't forget a second analog stick. I still think that's the main fault of the original PSP. The lack of the second stick really cripples the system's ability to fully utilize its 3D abilites... which is its main advantage over the DS. I like all the other additions you listed. I'd be all over a system like that.

it will happen eventually. hopefulyl for Sony sake they make the next one piracy proof like the ps3 is to this point. maybe have mini blu-ray disc- HA! I think the PSP is my favorite hand held ahead of the iphone and then DS in 3rd. I love the game selection on the DS but the problem with it is the awful graphics. nearly unplayable for me even on the go. psp is like having a ps2 in your hands.

Working in QA, we are much happier seeing a PS2 or DS sku come in than a PSP version of anything.

The controls are always awkward, the PSP dev kits are humongous, and the games are never fun >_

Placing their bets on the DS? Yeah, OK. Nobody cared about the DS when it came out; everyone was revolted at the screen gimmick, remember?

The PSP problem is the same as the PS3 problem: it's too expensive, too beefed-up, too multimedia, too "next gen". People don't want scintillating, eye-grabbing, full-length games while they're on the train or at recess, and they don't want anything on the train or at recess that costs $100 more than its competitor (at first; Sony's closed that gap to 40ish by now).

I wouldn't be surprised if there is no new PSP next generation. Sony isn't doing to great overall this generation. It'd be interesting to see them skip a generation (with their handheld, at least) to regroup and then come back after that. :P

That's the second lie this guy has said in as many weeks.

He also said they weren't price cutting in Spring 2009, but given PS3 sales as of late, we know a price cut is looming, and that's perfect timing. ;)

But seriously, the PSP2 is definitely being worked on, look at PSP soft and hardware sales, there's something up Sony's sleeves, especially since the PSP3K wasn't too huge. And 2009 will be it's fifth year on the market. PSP 2K is coming 2009 for sure.

Is the DSi going to be an improvement of the DSLite graphically or no?

About the only thing that holds me back from picking up a DS is that I'm starting to become a graphics whore and I do like how the PSP games look. However there are just a few games that I really like for it whereas I can name 20 must have games for the DS plus 20 more that I'm interested in. I mean even simple stuff like Pokemon (which I know some may consider a lil childish) still appeals to me from a handheld aspect...lol. You can't find a game or an experience like that on the PSP.

The DSi is going to have bigger screens and a few more rams but it's still not a next-gen DS. But really, the DS has more than enough great games to make up for any graphical problems, like you already know. xP

Umm no leo...

Only the FF games really interest me out of that list. And 2 games doesn't justify a handheld at all. They're not system sellers to me. I mean if the DS were graphically as good as the PSP Chrono Trigger alone would make me buy it.

As it is though I'm more willing to spend my money on 360 games first and then Wii games if I can spare a few dollars here or there. Good thing there aren't that many Wii games that are "must have" right now. Hopefully that changes in the future though.

I think it really is unfair for people to accuse the psp of not having quality software anymore. Granted, the DS has /more/ software, but most of it is suck (My Spanish Coach anymore??).

There are more solid DS titles than PSP titles out there, but that's largely because Nintendo has been making those games in house. When you cut out first party titles, the DS isn't really all that hot.

The psp suffers from poor battery life, screen ghosting or interlacing (with the 3000 out now, your choice!!), one analog stick (FPS + one analog stick = failure), and the incredible ease of piracy (not that its hard to pirate on the DS--$50 will get you a flash rom to play any warez you want). In all other regards, the psp holds its own quite well.

A next gen psp is probably in the works, but I wouldn't hold my breath on it coming out anytime soon. Of the three handhelds (DS, PSP and ipod touch), the PSP far and about the strongest technologically. Unless a DS next or ipod touch with 3d acceleration is announced, there's no need to update the PSP (except for maybe adding a second thumbstick addon--it could totally connect to the usb port and snap on somehow, making FPS titles actually DOABLE!).

It's one of the-best selling platforms of all time. Make a good game for it and people will buy.

by any and all measures of non-Nintendo handhelds, PSP has achieved more than any other

Though it certainly didn't replace the Game Boy as everyone assumed in its early days, it's a very respectable start. To abandon from this point would be insane, especially as handheld gaming gains more legitimacy

I agree. They have done better than any other handheld going up against the Nintendo systems. You could even argue that it was Sony's impending entry into the market that kicked Nintendo into gear and forced them to branch out with the DS.

oh hi again guys
so i just wanted to say that i kow some of you are not young anymore and most of you are married with kids. this can lead to a serious decline in understanding jokes and humor. But i understand. so anyways i think the PSP is an ok system for an "ok" gamer. An ok gamer is the midpoint btw casual and hardcore. Maybe the psp should come out with some innovation......oh say like dual touch screens or maybe even triple touchscreens. Then it can have a game where you tough the weakspots of crabs for MASSIVE DAMAGE!! hmm i have always wondered what the weakspot of a giant enemy crab would be? would it be their giant enemy crab balls? idk. some educated chum on giant enemy crabs get back to me on that. til then my fellow joystiq'ers ciao!
