We had high hopes for The Dark Knight's Blu-ray release. But boy, we didn't expect such phenomenal results. The Dark Knight has become the fastest selling Blu-ray yet, besting the last king of the hill, Iron Man. Nearly 3 million copies of the movie were sold on Tuesday, with 600,000 units being sold on Blu-ray. That means about 25-30% of the disc sales were on Blu-ray -- an impressive feat for a relatively new format.
"It's encouraging," said Ron Sanders, president of Warner Home Video. "The Blu-ray sales of 'Dark Knight' were exceptionally strong and much higher than our projections." Considering The Dark Knight is an obvious addition to an HD home theater set up, we doubt their projections were much lower. Besides, all that money should make up for the Golden Globe snub, amirite?

The HD download of the movie on PSN isn't worth it if it doesn't have the special features. The bonus with Batman unmasked the psychology of the character and the Batman tech was awesome.Only a die hard Batman fan would get the blu-ray disc version.

There is no HD download on the PlayStation Store. It's only a $15 SD purchase, no HD purchase, no HD rental.

Really? The DVD got called out in some of the reviews I read for being especially skimpy with the extras.

This was my first Blu Ray Movie. And I will be buying a whole lot more after watching this. BD Live and all the special features are just awesome! And the picture and audio was just as good or better as the theater. The Dark Knight is the best movie this year, totally worth the $30.

To be fair, nobody actually cares about the Golden Globes.

I wonder if this is sales or sell through.

As the article makes clear, this is the number of copies actually sold to consumers on the first day of release.

Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I didn't like the movie as much as I thought I would. I was practically dying to get out of the theater the last 30 minutes, I can't imagine enduring that experience a second time much less many repeat viewings.
The first one, I haven't picked up yet on blu-ray though.

Everyone has a right to their own opinion, which I respect yours... However to confirm your thoughts, yes, you are without a doubt in the minority... :D

I'm a huge fan of Batman, but I know what you mean. They could have ended the movie without going into the whole *Spoiler Spoiler Spoiler* Two-Face thing at the end. It added an extra 30 minutes to the movie, but oh well.
More than anything else, Dark Knight is the answer to the prayers of comic book fans and Batman fans across the globe, that some day someone would make a Batman movie that took the franchise seriously. To have had a PERFECT depiction of the Joker was just icing on the cake (Even if he hadn't died, I think he deserves an oscar. His performance is incredible).
The movie completely made up for the abomination that was "Batman:Gotham Knight" (the animated bridge between the first Batman movie and Dark Knight).

I too think the movie wasn't amazing great. I think most films are turning out to be mediocre with a large hype following it. For this movie it was the "Heath hype" seeing as how it would be his last film. His parts were enjoyable but after watching it I realized how boring it really was.

Is this really the best we PS3 owners have to get excited about, a friggin movie? Where are all the exclusive games, why is their nothing to do in Home? R2 is cool and all but the Xbitches got about a hundred games up on us and their controller does not look like it was manufactured in the 1990's!!! I going to remain loyal but Sony better get their act together soon or we are going to have both the 360 and the next Microsoft console to share second place with.....

Nice. Take an article about a movie and turn it into a console war.
Anyway, as for the topic at hand. I think my wife got me the Blu-ray of this for Christmas so I'll have to wait a couple of weeks to watch it again. I've seen it 5 times already though so I'm sure I can wait.

Looking at your posts indicates that you are an xbot looking for a way to make yourself feel better about your HD-DVD add-on not being able to play a BD movie.
Home is quite nice, much nicer than the Vista-ization of LIVE that is the NXE.
Quantity isn't usually quality. Both the Wii and the 360 suffer from that diesease.

@don
Considering every PS3 can play BR's then YES it is something to get excited about especially if you've already invested in a 5.1+, HDTV Home Theater.....

Like many others, this was also my first Blu Ray. Until now, I didn't think the price was justifiable but I was absolutely blown away by the quality. Blu Ray is the future, I have no doubt about it.

Close. After owning a PS3 for a year, I took the plunge about a month ago and bought Iron Man as my first BR. This'll definitely be my second though (unless someone gets me Wall-E for Xmas.)

Does not really surprise me... Target and Wal-mart were sold out of this movie on Blu-ray, Except for Targets special one in the Batman mask (+$10... and LOL) but had plenty of DVDs left. I was surprised that I had to go to more than one store to find it on Blu... (THANK YOU COSTCO!)

Yeah I found that to be true at Best Buy as well. I bought the Blu-Ray at about Ten AM and they had plenty. When I went back later in the day (I forgot printing paper) they literally had four or five left.

I am sorta irritated about this release.
The package clearly states that the digital copy will be in HD when played back on my PS3 - but there is NO WAY to LOAD the digital copy ONTO the PS3. Seriously. Not even in SD.
Can somebody splain this to me as I am obviously slow.

Batman on Blu Ray was outstanding.
I have had my ps3 for awhile and believe it or not one of the best looking Blu Ray movies I have watched is 50 first dates. Why this movie looks so good I cant figure out but it is outstanding. When ever someone comes over I use that movie to show the system off and so far everyone just sits down and watches lol.
