It has been a long, long time since we heard anything about the Xbox 360 version of the Funcom MMO Age of Conan. Considering the spate of bad news about Funcom and AOC lately, we were half convinced that the project had been shelved altogether. Not so, apparently, as Funcom CEO Trond Arne Aas told gamesindustry.biz that the title was still in the works, saying, "We had high expectations when we first set out to do a console version of Age of Conan, and these remain high." He added that Funcom is working to tailor the experience to the console, saying that the 360 version should boast "most, if not all of the content and improvements that have been made to the PC version of the game."
Just when we should expect to see Age of Conan on the 360, Arne Aas did not say.

For now I'm stuck playing FFXI as the only MMOesque game.

This game would be awesome on the 360. Perfect with the combo's and everything. I wonder what they will charge the 360 users a month to play it. Hope 360 and pc users can team up, although that's probably not happening with MS strong 'inner circle'.

I'm not surprised that they're pushing it out on the 360 still, Funcom's probably pretty desperate to turn a bigger profit on this game right now.
I wonder what ever became of their second MMORPG, Secret World...

It will most likely be subscription based, the same as the PC version. The game uses dedicated servers, which needs to be supported by money and retail copy disc sales don't cover server costs.

The PC version has been $12.95 on clearance at Target for the past month. How can they possibly be optimistic about this failing title?

ehh... Because it's a MMORG? They make money by monthly subscriptions?

@Paul Kemp: Subscription based on a console? What are the chances that it will succeed? Final Fantasy MMORPG isn't exactly successful.

@mgsrocks1 Why exactly isn't FFXI successful? It certainly doesn't have as many players as say, World of Warcraft but i'm willing to bet it still has a lot of users, which they are making a profit from. Heck, theres been like 4 expansions for it, so there must be people playing it. I doubt the 360 version has many people playing but you also need to remember FFXI is on 3 platforms. PC, PS2 and Xbox 360. Besides, its not like it has ANY competition whatso ever in the console space.

I haven't played it but from what I hear, it still needs a lot of work. So my including "most if not all, content and upgrades" found on the PC thus far, I don't think that is going to save the 360 version of the game.
Sorry Funcom, I think AoC is a sinking ship.

Hey Funcom, here's a thought. Why don't you guys get started on a third and final Longest Journey/Dreamfall game. I need closure on Dreamfall. With all of the plot holes left open, there's no knowledge as to what's gonna happen to each character. Get started now!

First of all let me just say that i'm a big believer that MMO's will work on consoles, when someone does it right.
However, considering Age of Conan is like 32gbs on the PC version alone, i'm really struggling to see how they are going to make that fit on a DVD and even if they have multiple dvds, most 360 owners have 20gb hard drives. They are going to have to work their asses off to optimize that for our 360.
Also, the PC version has been widely criticized, basically that the game falls apart after level 20. Unless they do something about that, which should first and foremost be addressed in the PC version, the 360 version will be a bigger flop than the PC version right now is.
Not to mention, its going to be hard for most 360 owners to justify paying an additional subscription, on top of LIVE for this. I know some people will but its really going to hurt potential sales.
Good luck Funcom, you have your work cut out for you but you really should have focused on the PC version before tackling an even bigger mountain.
