Midnight Club: LA races into South Central in early '09
Rockstar construction crews are hard at work laying down pavement for those already bored with Midnight Club's LA streets. The developer confirmed that it will release a "South Central Upgrade Map" for free next year, adding numerous LA landmarks and a new area equivalent to about a third of what's already on the disc.
Those looking to burn a little of their leftover holiday cash can also pick up the "South Central Content Pack," which will trick out the racing game with new character competitions, races, music and that all-important element of the LA landscape: The SUV. No release date for either download has been announced, though Rockstar notes that Xbox 360 and PS3 racers can look forward to rolling down the 105 Freeway sometime in early 2009.

If they really want me to buy their game for free content updates, they should spend their time and money removing the idiotic rubber band AI.
aahatimy @ Dec 12th 2008 6:35PM
I hope you realise that the rubber band effect works for you as well. I can see why thye put it there as some people would find it boring if they were constantly alone in first or last position.
I guess the better option would have been to have an option where it could be enabled o disable.
About the DLC I hope this continues a long tradition of rewarding your loyal fans for well....loyalty. Something this game does need though is more cars and bikes.

Man up, you goddamned pussy. It's nowhere near as bad as the reviewers tell you it is. Lemme guess, wimp, you also bitched about the difficulty in Ninja Gaiden II?
Shogan @ Dec 13th 2008 10:10AM
I think the patch earlier this week fixed that problem. The game is a lot more forgiving now than it was before.
Deviation @ Dec 13th 2008 1:18PM
It's not the difficulty that bothers me. What bothers me is thoroughly defeating my competition, only to have them warp in behind me and blow past me even though I'm at full speed. Hence, rubber band AI.

How accurate is Midnight club in re-creating locations? I have a friend who's parents own a market on Hawthorne Blvd., and it would be pretty funny to drive past it in the game.
Hopefully Keg King will be in the game also.
joshua @ Dec 12th 2008 6:59PM
It's not 1:1 accurate, but it nails the look of LA extremely well. The different areas look distinct and you can pick out the regions. It's close to San Andreas in that regard.
For a 1:1 style recreation of LA, you have to go to the True Crime game on PS2.
Levi @ Dec 12th 2008 9:10PM
I was thinking of True Crime LA as I was writing this comment. I never bothered to play it because I heard it was lame. I might pick it up if I can find it for less than $5.

Pimp not included.

I was pretty sure the game came with a mail in rebate for one of those.
wise_old_bird @ Dec 12th 2008 7:15PM
I really like the game. The rubber band AI isn't as bad as many racing games, in fact I'm not convinced there is rubber band AI. I am certain the AI can be frustratingly difficult, and I'm a very long-term gamer. To casuals it has to be incredibly brutal.
I didn't even notice the game being any easier in the new patch but one thing always did seem odd to me. The fastest vehicle in the game, the Kawasaki Ninja, is also ONE OF THE CHEAPEST. You need to be able to buy D-class vehicles (or is it A? I forget) but once you can you'll be blowing the AI away over and over. Some challenges require you to use a car or a different class of vehicle, but open vehicle challenges are a breeze with that bike.

I don't understand where this rubber band AI thing is coming from. If anything and there is one, it helps make the game more white knuckle. Playing the game with a good flatscreen and a racing wheel is insanely awesome and this pack has me sold. I'm not usually a Take 2 fan, but I really don't see how people could hate this game.
tl;dr if you think there's bad rubberband AI, gb2 mario kart and save the drama fo' yo mamma

I get ticked off when I can't win a race at all... And then drive the cheapest car in the game and smoke everyone. That's just stupid.
NOT ME @ Dec 13th 2008 12:27AM
I personally dont like the handling. if you dont move the joystiq (ha) and just peel out the car does a donut. like the car needs a major alignment or something. Also the AI has like superhandling cause they do moves at speeds where it does even make sense. plus when they bump cars nothing happens, while when you bump cars its a disaster. The driving style reminds of PGR but just not as polished. also Its seems to not matter which car the AI is driving you can get smoked off the line no matter what your driving.

"I personally dont like the handling. if you dont move the joystiq (ha) and just peel out the car does a donut. like the car needs a major alignment or something."
The controls are not meant to be realistic. If you are going at very fast speeds and suddenly make a sharp turn what else do you expect to happen to your car.
"Also the AI has like superhandling cause they do moves at speeds where it does even make sense. plus when they bump cars nothing happens, while when you bump cars its a disaster."
That's not true at all, there have been countless times where I have won races by a mile (almost literally) and you keep seeing the AI controlled cars making mistakes all the times. Even if they are not in your sight you will see their markers on the GPS spinning around to indicate they have crashed into something.
"The driving style reminds of PGR but just not as polished."
I can't say alot about PGR as I haven't played it much but I CAN tell you the handling is nowhere near the same.
"Can also Its seems to not matter which car the AI is driving you can get smoked off the line no matter what your driving."
Bullshit. I have got off the line faster with a suped up Ford Focus against other cars which were easily superior. I know for a fact you are just not starting right.
playwhutyalike @ Dec 13th 2008 3:34PM
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torque
It's called torque. Get into a car with some horses under the hood, mash the gas, let go of the wheel and see what happens. What? You start going in a circle?
Holy Crap!
playwhutyalike @ Dec 13th 2008 3:36PM
Hell, hold on to the wheel without moving it, you get the same effect.
Muhammad-Oli @ Feb 25th 2009 6:28PM
I know I'm way late replying to this, but hold down the handbrake and the accelerator at the same time as the race is beginning, then when it says "Go!" release the handbrake. Guaranteed to be quicker off the line.
Agree with your other points though.
jogman @ Jan 4th 2009 12:26AM
to smoke past the AI at the start all u need to do is hold the handbrake on till it says go then u let it of change gears in high rpm n u win the take off's
