PSN Thursday: But wait, it's Friday
We know, we know. It's Friday. We let you down. What can we say? Yes, there was a PSN update yesterday, and it was right on time. But we were so busy rockin and poppin in Central Plaza all night that we completely ignored the other new wares this week. Can you blame us?
Look, we waited in line for six hours just to get into Home! And once we finally made it in? Well, there was no way we were gonna hit the exit door just to go over and peer inside the PlayStation Store (it's not like we ever buy anything anyway). No, we spent the nightcrowded around the few female avatars that showed up mingling and led the mob that chased them across the plaza and through the mall when they tried to escape making friends. There's nothing like breaking the ice with, "Where do you live?" followed by the flirty "guns" gesture.
But alas, here in the real world, we've got a responsibility to deliver the news. And by golly, fourteen hours late or not, we're gonna deliver the news!

Home seems fun...met a couple guys and play R2. Nice way to meet people, hopefully they will add a lot more content cuz right now its lackluster.
koehler83 @ Dec 12th 2008 10:46AM
Priority #1: Strong, reliable server infrastructure.
Priority #2: Lots and lots of Game Launching data entry. (I pray this can be done in-house and isnt left up to the developers, as it will render the feature and subsequently the service, useless for a long time to come.)
Priority #3: Additional content.
The Aggie CEO @ Dec 12th 2008 10:43AM
its crazy that the 5 or 6 females I seen in there were getting mobbed by like 10+ dudes each...........
baby sea tuna @ Dec 12th 2008 10:45AM
So, Home really *is* a 3D representation of the chat rooms of olde.
The Aggie CEO @ Dec 12th 2008 10:53AM
lol.........more like a sausage fest........
I was sitting in a chair in The Uncharted space top right locked room........
this dude sits down RIGHT in front of be with his head positioned in between my legs........that shit was so disturbing I just turned off my PS3......then I look at my messages this morning and the fucker sent me an invite........
Dirty @ Dec 12th 2008 11:00AM
How do you get into those doors anyway? And is there anything all that exciting in them?
ZaxCG2 @ Dec 12th 2008 12:08PM
And you wonder why Nintendo has friend codes...
The Aggie CEO @ Dec 12th 2008 1:00PM
gotta know the code........lol
but nope........didnt see nothing exciting in them........they said it was free stuff in there in the Closed beta
343 Guilty Fart @ Dec 12th 2008 1:03PM
@Aggie- My first time in the main plaza, not two minutes into my home experience, I started noticing all sorts of people sitting down with their faces in each other's crotch area. God I love the internet.
Dirty @ Dec 12th 2008 10:45AM
I turned it off as soon as I finally downloaded the mall and saw that I could purchase a summer home for 5 bucks and then decorate it with a 50 cent lamp. Likely wont be visiting my "home" too much in the future.
The Aggie CEO @ Dec 12th 2008 10:47AM
yo.........that summer house is JUMPIN!!!!!
The Aggie CEO @ Dec 12th 2008 10:51AM
and of course I was bullshitting.........
Popfrogs @ Dec 12th 2008 12:45PM
So the fear of not buying something scared you into turning it off?
I hit the Mall, checked all the shops for free stuff, then sat down upstairs for a nice game of Chess. I magically won at the end, somehow, and made a friend in the process.
Home is what you make it.

Vidikron @ Dec 12th 2008 10:52AM
Did any of you guys play the various arcade games? They changed some of them up a bit and now you can apparently win items by playing them. I played one of the Echochrome arcade machines in the bowling alley and when I was finished around 10 "You have received an item" (or something like that) messages popped up on my screen. So I guess I won a bunch of stuff.
The Aggie CEO @ Dec 12th 2008 11:21AM
I played echochrome.........gotta get use to it.......I failed like 2 times.......lol
Xoonaka @ Dec 12th 2008 11:45AM
I actually liked the Echochrome Arcade a lot. I think it's way more fun then the actual Echochrome... but that could partially be due to the lack of annoying repetitive music and excessive echo.
David @ Dec 12th 2008 11:51AM
I also found echocrome arcade more fun than the original. Having enemies added a certaing level of urgency the original didn't have. I managed to get 15 and also got those messages saying a got a new item...but I don't know which one...is it the bubble machine? does everyone have that?
SoCoolCurt (PSN: KillaKornbread - XBL: SoCoolCurt) @ Dec 12th 2008 12:15PM
it's not the bubble machine, it's an echochrome costume. you guys haven't seen those guys running around in the all white robot like suits? if you unlock that stuff in echochrome, make sure you visit your wardrobe lol. i wore mine for like ten minutes last night doing the robot.
and i remember seeing people with that stuff in the private beta too. i just remember the game being harder so i couldnt unlock the stuff myself lol.
Strategy_Panda (The Sandwitch Poisoning Crew) @ Dec 12th 2008 1:48PM
do they still have that train yard game? I play that stupid thing for an hour
wonderweazel @ Dec 12th 2008 6:32PM
Check your closet for clothes, you unlock stuff that lets you dress like the guy from echodrome
tmontana213 @ Dec 12th 2008 11:00AM
The damn Home icon wont appear under the PSN section of the XMB! I'm so pissed! I wanna go Home!
MajorHoorah @ Dec 12th 2008 11:26AM
umm u need to up date ur ps3 to the newest firmware
mindshed @ Dec 12th 2008 11:29AM
Pause any downloads you have going, that's what I had to do (restarting the ps3 was not helping).
The Aggie CEO @ Dec 12th 2008 11:59AM
you restart ya PS3 a few times???
tmontana213 @ Dec 12th 2008 1:49PM
@mindshed
Thanks a million bro! It worked.
NOT ME @ Dec 12th 2008 11:18AM
Im probably only representing a small few...but i still get a timed out error!!!! WTF i tried this morning at like 3am and again 9am
primetime4 @ Dec 12th 2008 11:22AM
I think Home is pretty cool. The entire experience felt pretty well polished and even if it only succeeds in building up your friends list I think that would be ok. But I am one of those female avatars and the amount of attention I was receiving was disturbing. Do gamers really believe any real females would be in Home? Some guy even did the old yawn arm maneuver in the theater which was a hoot.
Martin @ Dec 12th 2008 11:29AM
That was me, and don't front, you totally gave me your digits.
Evan @ Dec 12th 2008 11:22AM
How could you spend all evening in Home? It's the most generic and boring piece of crap ever. I stacked my default furniture in a pile, visited someone who bought the summer home, and was bored out of my mind within an hour!
LordVesper007 @ Dec 12th 2008 11:36AM
Beats the shit out of me man....'
I'm just picturing some of these people at home sitting in front of a ps3 playing virtual bowling...with strangers online.
I mean really yall is that truly fun? I mean there are so many other things I could be doing other than virtual bowling and then exiting to see that I won a "prize"....whoopdie freaking do!
I'm sorry but I just don't see how anyone could possibly come back to their house put on their ps3 and just use home for 15 mins much less HOURS.
ZaxCG2 @ Dec 12th 2008 12:11PM
Yeah- I'd HOPE that you wouldn't play it for more than an hour... I mean- it wasn't really built for that reason was it?
I guess if you're into the whole meeting pedoph-I MEAN friends online thing its cool.
But I digress- I have yet to try it myself. (Time to wait an hour for the download)
SoCoolCurt (PSN: KillaKornbread - XBL: SoCoolCurt) @ Dec 12th 2008 12:22PM
you guys it's not about that. it's about the features it has. sure running around talking and playing the little games gets boring after a while, but it's the party chat, friends list building, and group game launching that are Home's main draws. if you think otherwise, your missing the point.
since i was in the private beta too, it's only taken me about a total of about 2 hours to do EVERYTHING in Home. so there is no way, that stuff can be the real focus of the app, it's just extra. i own a 360 too and i think this is just the New Playstation Experience.
tmacairjordan87 @ Dec 12th 2008 12:30PM
"I'm just picturing some of these people at home sitting in front of a ps3 playing virtual bowling...with strangers online.
I mean really yall is that truly fun?"
No less fun than playing random shooter 500 online with strangers.
Maverick Saturn @ Dec 12th 2008 1:13PM
You do realise how retarded that sounded, you might as well not play games at all, how is digital bowling any more sad then digital shooting and platforming, heres a tip, go outside if you have a problem with it, stop playing games.
xGeneral DEATHx (Mr ESC Welcome Back Party Ultimate Mega Action Force) @ Dec 12th 2008 1:29PM
You can meet...people? In the real world?!
That's it, I'm downloading Life 1.0
knowthyself @ Dec 12th 2008 11:26AM
Ugh this really goes against my whole anti-social gaming personality. I do look forward to meeting up with friends that I actually know in real life. Anyone else is kinda weird.
maylon @ Dec 12th 2008 11:39AM
Just got the 160 gig Ps3 last week, played a few aaa games, blu ray movies, tried Home, will be promptly returning it today for a full refund. Hate all you want,I tried, but it just doesnt measure up to the 360.I am actually very, very disappointed with the ps3.
Club80 @ Dec 12th 2008 11:42AM
All that in one week, eh? Anyone else smell troll??
LordVesper007 @ Dec 12th 2008 11:44AM
I'm guess you got Uncharted right? What else did you try. And what were your thoughts/impressions of the games?
I hate the playstation controller. People can hate the Wiimote all they want but at least that's usuable. I just can't use the sony controllers. They're just...AWKWARD.
Anyways if there was a way to use a 360 like controller on ps3 games that would be a MAJOR plus. But that will never happen so whatever.
knowthyself @ Dec 12th 2008 11:55AM
Home just came up today. How long did you try it for? Did you beat all those "aaa" games you supposedly played? How many blurays did you watch? You are such a liar. Nobody who spends that much money would return it that quickly.
SoCoolCurt (PSN: KillaKornbread - XBL: SoCoolCurt) @ Dec 12th 2008 12:26PM
no way you did all that in week unless you did nothing but sit in front of your PS3 every minute of the last week.
TROLL!
wonderweazel @ Dec 12th 2008 6:41PM
I was an xbot once. Still love my 360, but people who say there is nothing to do on the PS3 are in denial. Home is simply put as a graphical lobby where you can play games and meet people before launching into a full game. I really cool concept. Although at this point it feels a little sterile.
DonGeronimo @ Dec 12th 2008 11:38AM
CNN Money - "Sony's PS3 A Sinking Ship: Sales Plummet"
"Alone among the three major videogame consoles, sales of the PS3 are down about 19% from November 2007, according to the latest stats from the NPD Group. Sony was only able to sell 378,000 PS3s this November, compared to 466,000 last year.
And the problem for Sony isn't the recession, it's the PS3."

"mediocre game library"!?
Total Xbot, or MS payoff.
Captain.Lx @ Dec 12th 2008 11:54AM
Well, what I've seen so far was very impressive and I really liked it. I think I'm going to spend quite some time there. It somehow reminds me of Phantasy Star Online...
