In one level, can't remember which, the bullet bill actually drove one of my friends into the wall for a good 20 secs. It was one of the funniest things ever. Also I noticed that the only items not on that list were the green shell and the mushrooms

I love Mario Kart. I have loved every iteration since the SNES classic. I don't think the game would be the same without the items, but they do certainly go overboard sometimes. Sometimes you just want to quit playing after getting hit by your 3rd Blue shell in the final lap. Such frustration. Something that they are sorely missing in the latest game is the ability to turn off items you don't want in your game. Blue Shell is the only one I would to throw out. It would be a nice option.

Speaking of items, I always wondered why they did away with the feather. That was a fun tool for trying out shortcuts in the first game.

I loved the feather! I can think of several places in the newest game where leaping across a chasm with that item would have been great.

Wait, what item DIDN'T you mention?
In my opinion, however, the only annoying "item" is an Action Replay/Ocarina used in an online race (and of course the blue shell). But then again, I've never come across it...

They say you can dodge a blue shell by turbo-ing just as the shell raises up before dropping on you.

I haven't played enough lately to try it out. But it sounds plausible. :D

It is possible (I've done it before), but it's not easy (that's putting it mildly, there's a lot of luck involved).

I think that's a valid response, yes. All of them can be annoying depending on your tolerance and temper.

I have a tendency to break my game disc in half at the slightest banana slip.

Hilarious, and good show.

Though i've always felt the most annoying item out of them all was that damn thunder cloud. It always seemed like the CPU knew to knock into me just before it would go off, leaving me helpless and crippled

But then i'd fall far enough back to hit the item jackpot and net some sweet revenge, so it worked out

Falling back to second or third place (whether deliberately or not) is sometimes the best strategy. Luigi Circuit is one of the courses in which items heavily influence the outcome, mostly because it's such an easy course to race. This is why I prefer the more elaborate courses like Rainbow Road--there is more room for error, and the more skilled players tend to come out ahead.

I have nightmares about the blue shell....for me it is the worst item ever in MK.
I love MKWii a ton but this item makes me want to drink acid , fart, and light a match so I boil and combust at the same time...I would like Wiispeak for MKWii so i can vent my frustrations about blue shells to everyone i play with Xo

I have went from first to last place online because of
a combination of a blue shell, lightning, a red shell, and a tiny crack in the course. It completely killed my score and the worst part is that I was only 20 feet away from the finish line!

and this my friends, is why diddy kong racing is superior to mario kart ,save for mario kart's battle mode ;)

its a game without rubber band ai, and without rubber banded item giving. enjoy it!

I felt like some of the items in DKR were kinda' useless, and that being different vehicles didn't change the outcome of the race TOO much in some stages (AKA: no use)... and the vocals were darn annoying...
And that's why I always saw MK superior to DKR...


...that's not to say that DKR wasn't awesomely fun. Cuz it was. :P

Airplanes were good fun, and I think the idea of an adventure mode was really well-implemented in DKR. But for as much as I liked the Rare-developed set of characters, it never topped Mario Kart at the end of the day.

red shells suck because even if you are holding a banana/shell/2 shells behind you there's still a chance that it can hit you from a side angle. ridiculous!

bullet bills suck because they can drop you off into walls or off edges. ludicrous!

lighting clouds suck because you usually get them when no one is around you. then you shrink. then everyone catches up to you. then you get hit by 2 sequential red shells. and you end up in last. absurd!

blue shells.... oh blue shells.. we go far back my friend.


I could actually go for more items in the game or similar to DKR levels of items.

I agree with pretty much everything, though the classic xkcd comic "$&#(ing Blue Shells" would've been a suitable substitute for the Blue Shell pic.
