Peggle Extreme now free on Steam
If you've been anxious to take a stab at the eighth-best game that came out last year, but you don't want to pay any money for said stab, and you also don't want to play it unless it incorporates elements from various Valve franchises, then you're outrageously picky. Fortunately, Valve has acquiesced to your bizarre list of demands -- Peggle Extreme, the miniature version of PopCap's hit title which includes levels based on Half Life 2, Portal and Team Fortress 2, is now free to download on Steam.
Previously only available in the PC version of The Orange Box (or from a demo offered to NVIDIA customers), this Plinko-tastic title offers ten Valve-themed levels, five "master challenges", a multiplayer "duel mode", and a Unicorn with a headcrab impaled upon its domepiece. If that doesn't sell you, we're not sure what will.

i have all three and i must say that extreme is the second best (nights, bleh).
deluxe is MILES above extreme though. highly recommended if you can get it for 10 or less.

Peggle is the closest you'll ever get to digital cocaine.
Lee @ Dec 13th 2008 6:20PM
I first heard that saying on a review for Advance Wars. Just thought I'd say.

So that's why my eyes are so bloodshot right now. I just played it for two hours straight - JESUS CHRIST.
West @ Dec 14th 2008 7:28AM
I-I can quit any time I want to guys...really, it's not a problem...just...just one more click...it's all I need...to get Extreme Fever...*shiver*
Divine Dirtclod @ Dec 13th 2008 4:13PM
Has a release date been given for Peggle on XBLA? I'm really trying to save some spacebucks for that one... which isn't too difficult at the moment.
pr_master @ Dec 13th 2008 4:36PM
I love Valve
rob @ Dec 13th 2008 4:41PM
can't argue with free games.. thanks.
Brian @ Dec 13th 2008 4:45PM
Kind of off topic but what is happening with Peggle coming to the xbox live arcade?
Ghede @ Dec 13th 2008 4:49PM
Ohshit. I just noticed that face in the sun for the first time. I'm not sleeping anymore.
MowDownJoe @ Dec 13th 2008 7:16PM
SMB3 did the same thing to me, man, so many years ago.
Foetoid @ Dec 13th 2008 8:28PM
How did you not see the face in SMB3?
Trickob @ Dec 14th 2008 3:19AM
@ foetoid
I believe that mowdownjoe means that he couldn't sleep because of the creepiness of the face of the sun in smb3.
incidentally, that peggle image made my eyes bleed.
...in a good way...
KeenCommander @ Dec 13th 2008 4:51PM
I refuse to download this simply because of the general disturbingness of the headcrab unicorn.
Thatisall.
Ghen @ Dec 13th 2008 7:47PM
Funny, thats exactly why I'm downloading it
KeegdnaB @ Dec 13th 2008 5:23PM
I got so excited for a second reading the headline but then remembered I already have Extreme.....I was thinking of deluxe.
and of course I nearly beat the last level on the mobile verison the other day before my enV bricked, and I had to have it replaced and start over. :(
Alvin @ Dec 13th 2008 5:24PM
i just downloaded, played it.
I've never played Peggle before, and i have to say, IT WAS PRETTY AWESOME.
but unfortunately, there were only 10 levels, so i uninstalled it.
Lee @ Dec 13th 2008 5:57PM
Hope you enjoy your newfound 500kb free space.
Lee @ Dec 13th 2008 5:53PM
Plinko-tastic?
Don't you mean pachinko?
Reader @ Dec 13th 2008 6:47PM
pikachu
chispito @ Dec 13th 2008 6:47PM
Well, Plinko works, too. Is the game from the Price is Right obviously inspired by the Japanese gambling machines? Yes.
But it still fits.

It bothers me that so few people recognize "pachinko" but they do know "plinko." Even a whitebread guy like me knows what it is!
BlackBeltJones @ Dec 13th 2008 6:09PM
*Loads up Steam*
Andrew @ Dec 13th 2008 7:04PM
So I'm not the only one eerily reminded of Plinko by this game! Awesome!
Obi-Habby @ Dec 13th 2008 7:22PM
When you beat the level and the little bonus score chutes pop up. Thats when it reminds me the most of Plinko.
Skipjimroo @ Dec 13th 2008 7:22PM
Thanks joystiq.
That was worth it for the portal themed level alone!
I can't believe this little beauty (extreme, not peggle itself) had evaded me up till today.
CtrlAltDft @ Dec 13th 2008 8:06PM
Anyone that doesn't have Steam, I suggest to download it and make an account; tons of cool games on it like this, World of Goo, AudioSurf, etc.
BPMOmega [gamertag] @ Dec 13th 2008 8:18PM
Already had it (thanks, Orange Box!), but this is pretty cool for anyone who doesn't have it already.
I'm not addicted to it like others are... but it's definitely fun. And the Extreme version is just funny for it's Valve theme. Nothing better than combining headcrabs and unicorns!
CH3BURASHKA @ Dec 13th 2008 8:34PM
Gr8
Doug @ Dec 13th 2008 9:26PM
I played the demo a lot. Now getting the game for FREE is pure awesome. I love Valve and I hope they never change. (except more dedicated servers on L4D) :D.
spottednigel @ Dec 14th 2008 1:03AM
I somehow already had it. I think itcame with the Deluxe version of half-life 2 or something
PSN: HinchyFC @ Dec 14th 2008 9:11PM
Read the article, it came with The Orange Box.
