Team Fortress 2 is $10 this weekend on Steam
Between your holiday shopping expenditures and the economic burden of having to purchase the billion great games that came out this year for yourself, you probably don't have any fat stacks of presidential flash cards just lying around your abode. However, if you find yourself in need digital stimulation on a budget, we suggest turning your eyes to Steam some point over the next two days -- this weekend only, Team Fortress 2 is half-price, going for a single crisp Hammy (the shorthand name for Alexander Hamilton, who's on the ten dollar bill. Try to keep up, people).
What? You're asking us if you should take the ten-dollar plunge? It's a first-person shooter where you can carry around and consume a sandwich to restore health. Of course you should.

"It's a first-person shooter.'
Still sounds lame, Bruh.
Jakka ( The Order of Haters of Balance) @ Dec 13th 2008 12:06PM
Bowser...would it help if I mentioned it's most-definitely unlike any other shooter you have ever come across? If you're sick and tired of shooting, just roll a Medic,Engineer or Spy.
TyroneJackson @ Dec 13th 2008 12:20PM
Can't beat that. I would pay 10 bucks for a crappy game.
Negativecool @ Dec 13th 2008 1:20PM
I can honestly say that TF2 is my favorite online game. I like that there are no nades, and I especially like the rock-paper-scissors balance of all the classes.
There has never been so much value packed into ten dollars. NEVER!
Robotic Earthling @ Dec 13th 2008 1:31PM
TF2 is the only multiplayer shooter that I've ever really enjoyed. It's not like all the other shooters out there, Bowser. I strongly suggest you give it a try.
jorojoserojas @ Dec 13th 2008 1:49PM
@TyroneJackson
I hear that. I've paid full retail price for some crappy games!
Dr Jeckyl and Mr ESC. @ Dec 13th 2008 3:06PM
B*tch you better be trolling.
TF2 won several "Best MP" awards in 2007 and I have played a lot of FPS online and I can tell you TF2 and Battlefield Bad Company are only FPS I consider a Blast to play Online.
Also this is Valve we are talking about most of their games are Epic.If you ar enot convinced get the The Orange Box.
(P.S The Sandwich is only for the Heavy and only if you have unlocked it otherwise you have to stick to the old Med kits)
gst @ Dec 13th 2008 4:40PM
If you have not bought this game yet, do it NOW.
Like right now.
There is no conceivable way that TF2 is not worth your 10$.
Even if your family is starving and needs that money to eat, I promise, they will be happier with TF2.
Joeshie @ Dec 13th 2008 5:01PM
Considering that Team Fortress 2 is the best muliplayer game that's come out in the past three years, I would suggest that you check it out.
Whoda75 @ Dec 13th 2008 11:53AM
I really should get this, but oh well.
E.J. @ Dec 13th 2008 11:57AM
I love Steam.
Are you happy now, Valve?
mundox @ Dec 13th 2008 12:01PM
this surely can make a great early xmas gift to a friend :)
Roofie @ Dec 13th 2008 12:12PM
Was that a hint, Mundox? Because I don't know you, but I'm ready to hand over my credit card information because I want to be friends.
Graham Wellington (formerly tyrone washington, or marsha goldberg) @ Dec 13th 2008 12:46PM
his name's roofie! its a trap!
w00master @ Dec 13th 2008 12:10PM
An incredible deal for what is truly THE BEST Multiplayer game on ANY platform.
Imho, of course. ;)
Haggard @ Dec 13th 2008 12:31PM
Agreed. I've played this game for well over 200 hours and it's still fun, and has a huge player base (as well as some of the best custom maps and game modes this side of counterstrike).
All that joy for $10 feels wrong somehow.
sk8monroe81 @ Dec 13th 2008 3:30PM
hacked games are not the best. sorry.
w00master @ Dec 13th 2008 4:13PM
@sk8monroe81
*shrugs* your loss.
Joeshie @ Dec 13th 2008 4:44PM
@sk8monroe81
What hacks? I've never seen anyone hack in my 240+ hours of playing.
Go play to playing your crappy Halo 3 or CoD4 with other 12 year olds.
Bakkster @ Dec 14th 2008 7:39PM
@Joeshie
Trust me, there are hackers/scripters/sploiters/etc. However, between Valve Anti-Cheat and a well moderated server, most of my time spent playing is hacker free.
In over 4 days of game time, I have only seen about 2 hackers, and they were obvious and quickly kicked from the server by moderators.
ice~ @ Dec 13th 2008 12:17PM
I just made a steam account for the first time and bought it. I figured since NOT A SINGLE BREATHING CREATURE plays TF2 on the 360 i'd give it a shot on the PC...i heart steam now :D
ThornedVenom (Harley Quinn Defense Force) @ Dec 13th 2008 12:30PM
I highly recommend this game to any Steam user who doesn't have it yet.
ice~ @ Dec 13th 2008 12:31PM
How is the community on the PC? Do people still play it?
Haggard @ Dec 13th 2008 12:35PM
The peak today was 13,000 people playing at once, so yeah.
Also I mentioned up there ^ the community makes a lot of custom maps and valve often adds official support for the best of them (balancing, adding them to all servers etc).
Jakka ( The Order of Haters of Balance) @ Dec 13th 2008 12:41PM
Ice, I'd go as far as saying it's the third most played online FPS after CSS and CS.
Graham Wellington (formerly tyrone washington, or marsha goldberg) @ Dec 13th 2008 12:49PM
question: got a steam account, but im about to build a new pc and sell this one, i cant transfer everything with my username and pw right?
Haggard @ Dec 13th 2008 12:53PM
You CAN transfer it all. Just backup any savegames that might matter (your stats should automatically go across to your new PC, as will the ability to download and install all the games you've bought on Steam).
ThornedVenom (Harley Quinn Defense Force) @ Dec 13th 2008 1:33PM
Gotta love Joystiq: everyone else is answering questions for you.
ThornedVenom (Harley Quinn Defense Force) @ Dec 13th 2008 1:35PM
Gah, I'm going to be busy today, but for any new TF2 gamers out there, my Steam ID is thornedvenom.
Dr Jeckyl and Mr ESC. @ Dec 13th 2008 3:09PM
I bought it for the xbaucks and even so it is great.I also bought it for PC but I don't know what happened that my current computer can't run games anymore.
RAGGGGGGEEEE.
(You have to love Vista the browser crashes every 5 minutes.)
ice~ @ Dec 13th 2008 12:38PM
WOw this is awesome, sounds so much better than the console versions just because of the community maps! Where can i download those?....pshh my first PC game, im no longer a PC virgin, it hurts
ice~ @ Dec 13th 2008 12:41PM
this was supposed to be a reply to Haggard =(
Haggard @ Dec 13th 2008 12:54PM
Well, the custom maps are auto downloaded in-game (like LBP). You click on a server which is running a custom map, and it'll download the map (takes about 20 seconds on my internet) and you can begin :D
ice~ @ Dec 13th 2008 1:19PM
sweet, i cant wait to play, but its taking a helluva long time to download, an hour and its only at 30% =( and i have a great connection.
Powerlord @ Dec 14th 2008 1:27AM
http://www.fpsbanana.com has a lot of maps that you can download.
I have a small selection of maps used by the OverClocked Remix server at http://tf2.vgmusic.com/maps/
ice~ @ Dec 14th 2008 2:08AM
U guys know any good servers to play in? every game I join is Some random mod and really laggy, I just want to play straight up original TF2 not any of the 0 gravity or instant respawn crap, besides I'm a nub idk what I'm doing :)
btw I'm using a 360 controller for windows, but on TF2 none of the buttons work except for the left analog stick, how do I get it to work?
Powerlord @ Dec 14th 2008 1:43PM
You may want to try Lotus Clan's servers, although I've heard on Valve's forums that Lotus Clan uses a script to lie about the number of players connected to their servers.
Poisoned Al @ Dec 14th 2008 10:14PM
You can filter out silly mods and servers with high pings (I set mine to be less then 100) on the server browser.
brickwalker0 @ Dec 13th 2008 12:54PM
yep, just picked this up. i had a feeling the price would drop on or around black friday, and it finally did.
well worth the $10.
Casey Vincent @ Dec 13th 2008 1:01PM
And if any new people want a fun place to play, check out http://noHassleGamer.com
We run a TF2 and L4D server at the moment, feel free to stop by. As you can probably tell from the url, we take pride in not being dicks.

You mean like this guy? :D
Bootes @ Dec 13th 2008 2:35PM
This is where I play. ;) Too bad it's finals week. :(
Einhanderkiller @ Dec 13th 2008 6:34PM
My server of choice is Jiggly's Fun House. It kinda sucks how two of their three servers are SourceCraft servers, though. I don't like SourceCraft.
Obie @ Dec 13th 2008 1:14PM
Whoa, gotta give Valve props for the great deals of late, now gimme more L4D maps for cheapo and I will give you my first born!
Dwight @ Dec 13th 2008 1:21PM
Dang, might have to buy an extra copy or two, hello LAN PARTY!!!
grex9101 @ Dec 13th 2008 1:36PM
And the oft-promised dlc for the 360 is where exactly?
We've only been promised it since........ May?
Valve, you suck.
Nikonov @ Dec 13th 2008 1:41PM
Inevitable "You should be playing it on PC" comment.
grex9101 @ Dec 13th 2008 1:43PM
I don't wanna play it on PC. I wanna play it on my 360. Hence why I bought the 360 version and not the PC version.
ice~ @ Dec 13th 2008 2:12PM
Heh, i sold my 360 one and bought it on the PC, you should do it too, barely anyone plays it on the 360 now, ur lucky if you find a match =P
sicsided @ Dec 13th 2008 2:15PM
They mentioned a few days ago on their blog http://teamfortress.com/ that they are coming out with the pack for Xbox360 with everything in it at the beginning of the new year. And for the last god damn time, its not just Valve its Microsoft too.
