Grand Theft Auto IV crowned Game of the Year at Spike VGAs

It seems like Spike Video Game Award judges and Time magazine now have something in common. The Spike VGA Game of the Year was just announced and it was ... wait for it ... drumroll please ... more drumroll, please ... that's better ... Grand Theft Auto IV. The announcement was preceded by the latest Brutal Legend trailer, so we almost missed it basking in the awesomeness of Tim freaking Schafer. Congratulations to Rockstar.

Pretty good awards. Obviously voted on my industry journalists and not TV executives. No clear turds.

David Hayter should have gotten best game actor. What the hell is spike doing....no one is gonna take them seriously again after this years list. I rather get this kind of info from IGN, Gamepro, or G4 you know the ones that study games for a living.

Not a big surprise here really, which is sad. I consider GTA IV to be the most overrated game of the year. The hype is always big because it is a GTA game; it was a decent game but it had more than its fair share of flaws. I don't personally think it deserved the high scores that it got in most reviews and I really don't think it should be game of the year.

Where is Super Smash Bros Brawl??

Should be best multiplayer, best fighting and perhaps best wii game.

With categories like, "Big Name In Game", "Gamer God Inductee", "Best Human Male in Game", "Best Human Female In a Game", and "Best Female" but no male in a game; it's a wonder why people don't take gaming more seriously...

Best Use of Mountain Dew in a Game is a new category in next year's VGAs.

Since when did Spike TV become such gaming experts? The whole ceremony is one big fucking joke.

I'd give any awards Joystiq, G4, or IGN put out, more credence than Spike TV, any day of the week...

And, to date, Fallout 3 is the best game I've played, this year.. I got bored with GTA4, before I even beat it.

How about awards voted on by members from Joystiq, IGN, 1up, Gamespot and Game Informer? Oh, and Wired, OXM and What They Play? Those are the people who voted on Spike's Video Game Awards.

Well just goes to show- award shows are worthless.

GTA 4 was like...the worst choice of the nominees, yet of course it wins. I guess people will never vote for truely innovative titles.

Although I feel like MGS4 was an 8.5 or 9.0 at best, and it has a lot of flaws and quirks to it, I feel like the game is the game we gamers can be most proud of this year. So I think the Game of the Year award should've gone to MGS4.

While the storytelling strangely became more silly as the game went on, it still ultimately left a bigger positive impression on me than any other game this year.
