Reminder: Tune in to Joystiq tonight for reluctant Spike Video Game Awards coverage
We here at Joystiq typically try our best to make you, our dear readers, feel as appreciated as humanly possible, so forgive us for breaking form as we reveal to you that we hate your stupid guts sometimes. Our disdain stems from admittedly flawed logic -- if it weren't for you, we'd have no audience, and the brothers McElroy would have no reason to watch and liveblog the 2008 Spike Video Game Awards show tonight. Instead, we'd be out performing activities preferable to watching the VGAs -- activities like eating light bulbs, throwing ourselves in front of trains and ritual self-immolation.
However, you're here, and your cacophonous demand for VGA coverage has fallen on attentive, spiteful ears. Tune in tonight at 9 p.m. EST -- we'll be reprising our liveblogging roles of yesteryear (now with streaming video) to keep you in the loop about the grim events that unfold in the name of video game adjudication. We've got our fingers crossed for the following: Ravi Drums, drug-related humor, subtle judgment of our chosen hobby, painted ladies, celebrities pretending to know what the hell they're talking about, and the sweet, sweet embrace of death.

Try not to enjoy yourselves too much!
Markez (Anti-Panda Death Murder Squadron) @ Dec 14th 2008 2:35PM
Jack Black looks like the Snuggler from the Tim & Eric show, and that award looks ridiculous.
And please, Joystiq, why? Why did you have to link to the drums :*(
Turd Ferguson (formerly antsmarching) @ Dec 14th 2008 2:40PM
You've been Ravi-Rolled!
Strategy_Panda (The Sandwitch Poisoning Crew) @ Dec 14th 2008 3:25PM
you seem to have bad luck when clicking on links.

Before you click that, ask yourself one question: Do you feel lucky punk?
DO YA!?!?!
Markez (Anti-Panda Death Murder Squadron) @ Dec 14th 2008 3:31PM
Youtube brings a certain safety net, so, yes, yes I DO feel lucky punk. And despite the 'awwww' factor of attached link, I still plan to have your head on a festive holiday platter before the new year hits, you meat spinning bastard! Maybe with some festive mistletoe or zucchini garnishes or something.
Moptimus Slime @ Dec 14th 2008 4:46PM
someone already leaked the Brutal Legend gameplay spike is going to show

Mister Slime, I will hate you forever for making me watch the first few seconds of that film. I stopped watching then, but I am pretty sure about what was going to happen.
My mind has been dirtied.
Roto13 @ Dec 14th 2008 2:52PM
You know, if you didn't do it, I bet nobody would care.
Mr Khan @ Dec 14th 2008 2:55PM
Especially since Spike TV is on a lot more cable lineups than G4
BigD145 @ Dec 14th 2008 3:51PM
I wouldn't care. But now that Joystiq IS doing it, I hate everyone involved.
Hyams @ Dec 14th 2008 4:42PM
I'd care.
We're getting the first GoWIII and Uncharted 2 gameplay footage. I might well watch it, just for that.
Mr Khan @ Dec 14th 2008 2:53PM
You guys just don't like them because they rated you guys last place out of the various gaming blogs that one year
;)
Markez (Anti-Panda Death Murder Squadron) @ Dec 14th 2008 2:56PM
Really? When the hell was that? Joystiq is definiately my fave. Kotaku blows, in my opinion. And like Roto pointed out above us, I wouldn't have known/cared about this unless Joystiq pointed it out. I'll DVR it and skim through it now.

Mr Khan @ Dec 14th 2008 2:58PM
check the wikipedia article on joystiq.
FAT MAN @ Dec 14th 2008 3:51PM
To me joystiq has a way better community then any other site, every body on here has a personality and is recognizable, joystiq even manage to create its own
Internet celebrities (Fernardo?).
Now if only joystiq would post threads more often like kotaku, then it would blow kotoku out of the water. And since joystiq has such a great community why dont they ever ask us how we feel on a subject with having to connect it to some crazy news story.
Quattro @ Dec 14th 2008 3:56PM
I wouldn't call Fernando an internet celebrity, maybe a Joystiq celebrity.
FAT MAN @ Dec 14th 2008 3:59PM
a wise man once told me
"if your famous somewhere your famous everywhere"
Jerk Face [GT:xJERKFACEx] @ Dec 14th 2008 4:16PM
I don't know.. I kind of like the quality vs. quantity that joystiq is rocking over kotaku's style. The smarmy, sarcastic yet intelligent writing style here is also far preferred by this reader.
Plus, you kids are all pretty alright. The kotaku comments section makes me want to hurt myself, sometimes.
Haggard @ Dec 14th 2008 4:17PM
Well that just doesn't make sense.
Jerk Face [GT:xJERKFACEx] @ Dec 14th 2008 4:20PM
Plus, the Super McElroy Bros.™ don't work for Kotaku, so..
Haggard @ Dec 14th 2008 4:20PM
^ that was in response to "if your famous somewhere your famous everywhere"
But yeah, I love Joystiq's written style and the commenter community here (even if you do downvote me for hating Far Cry 2 and Indigo Prophecy).
Plus, when Joystiq came last, they didn't even have avatars, + or - hearts, or a podcast.
FAT MAN @ Dec 14th 2008 4:24PM
i would explain how it makes some sense but that be to much typing for my fat fingers

xFenixKnightx @ Dec 14th 2008 5:03PM
What? Whatever, Bro!
Kotaku is the SHIT!!!
....
Wait, I mean Kotaku IS shit! Fixed! :P Seriously though Kotaku is horible.
Jeff @ Dec 14th 2008 5:34PM
I think Joystiq > Kotaku due to the quality of the writers and the fact that we can vote people up or down. It makes it much easier to read the few comments that are worth reading. Kotaku, while offering more news and being generally more up to date, lacks these two good things. =P
Markez (Anti-Panda Death Murder Squadron) @ Dec 14th 2008 5:42PM
Personally, I think the 'disemvoweling' on Kotaku is one of the most pathetic things around. I'm a grown-up who can handle reading, and picking out the garbage and ignoring it. At least if something is voted into oblivion here I can still read it if I want.
Whereas Kotaku even went so far as to annoint a comment moderator awhile back from their fanbase, some pretentious twat named Witzbold who would intermittenly threaten folks with a banhammer.
BigFat @ Dec 14th 2008 5:54PM
i refuse to read anything disemvoweled, to much work for something im going to forget in 5 minutes.
carg0 @ Dec 14th 2008 2:53PM
no thanks...
Markez (Anti-Panda Death Murder Squadron) @ Dec 14th 2008 2:53PM
Alright folks, can someboy fill me in? I went to G4 to look for the awards show to DVR it, and initially I'm thrilled because it looks like Spaceballs is on. Unfortunately, it turns out this was some 30min animated show? How long has travesty been allowed to exist?
Mr Khan @ Dec 14th 2008 2:56PM
They launched it back in fall, though i can't keep track of it anymore, as Comcast just jacked G4 (and Cartoon Network) off my lineup here at college
Never actually got a chance to see it, but i wouldn't imagine it being any good
carg0 @ Dec 14th 2008 2:59PM
dude, it's G4. the entire "network" (and i use that term in the loosest sense possible) is a travesty.
Markez (Anti-Panda Death Murder Squadron) @ Dec 14th 2008 3:01PM
I do enjoy xplay quite a bit, and get a laugh out of the ninja and banzuke stuff now and then, but that's all I watch on it.
quasebrasileiro @ Dec 14th 2008 3:13PM
"I went to G4 to look for the awards show to DVR it..."
The VGA's are on Spike, not G4. Just a friendly reminder as it IS easy to confuse them.
Markez (Anti-Panda Death Murder Squadron) @ Dec 14th 2008 3:20PM
Yeah, I know. My brainpower is focused on tracking my imaginary football team in my fantasty playoffs, so I didn't think about it too hard at first :P
Residentevil72501 @ Dec 14th 2008 3:06PM
The VGA awards are a waste of time, its horrible show and is severely dissapointing every year and usually is outdated on the games they chose.
Kizzle @ Dec 14th 2008 3:07PM
Jack Black burn in hell. YOU ARE NOT FUNNY. LOUD AND OBNOXIOUS AND FAT DOES NOT EQUAL FUNNY UNLESS YOU ARE CHRIS FARLEY.
Shmil @ Dec 14th 2008 3:32PM
CAPS DOESN'T MAKE YOU RIGHT!
DangerMouse @ Dec 14th 2008 4:16PM
BUT IT MAKES YOU DANGEROUS
Obie @ Dec 14th 2008 4:17PM
Dude, I loved Chris Farley, but all he did was fall on tables and split his pants.
At least JB has a band and stuff.
Premature ejaculation man @ Dec 14th 2008 6:26PM
You know what time it is?
ITS TENACIOUS D TIME YOU MOTHERFUCKER GO!
St.McDuck @ Dec 14th 2008 3:10PM
Hmm. Fork in the eye or watch Spike TV...
I'll take the fork.
Hashbrown Hunter @ Dec 14th 2008 4:34PM
Make sure you don't eat with it afterwords.
atrimus @ Dec 14th 2008 3:12PM
i'll be watching mainly for the God of War 3 gameplay unveiling, and stuff about Uncharted 2. as for the "awards" themselves...LOL!!!
-slycooper_rocker- (lorddshadow the amazing) psn: shahanasalam @ Dec 14th 2008 8:29PM
they said nothing about gameplay.
lee @ Dec 14th 2008 3:18PM
cant wait to see GOW3 and uncharted 2!!!
Anonymousaurus @ Dec 14th 2008 3:19PM
who judges this anyway?
video game tv award shows are an excuse for deodorant and scion commercials.
Thatoneguy64 @ Dec 14th 2008 4:11PM
The VGAs are voted on by 27 games journalists, so I don't understand all the disdain toward the show.
It's not like it's just a popularity contest.
Hashbrown Hunter @ Dec 14th 2008 4:14PM
Oh well. It's a barely decent way to kill time.
Christopher Grant @ Dec 14th 2008 7:01PM
As one of the VGA judges, I can say with some degree of insight (or bias?) that the awards themselves are perhaps the industry's best and most valuable – however, the show they communicate those winners with is another story entirely. I'm hopeful this year's will try harder to make us proud.
Anonymousaurus @ Dec 15th 2008 3:11AM
well, when you say it that way I GUESS i dont have to be cynical...
