Ahh, now i see what Quincying is, great stuff.
And they say Home has nothing to do.

Home is what you make of it!
Though i guess if you have no interest in socialising (without guns) online it will be boring to you.

A lot needs to be done for it to be the revolutionary godsend Sony hyped it to be. We all should remember that it is still in beta and this is far from the finished product. When more of the promised features come I believe we'll see Home blossom into something truly magnificent. As of now, though, it's a neat program.

At the moment, I'll be coming back to Home to play the mini-games, and try to unlock the items that come from playing them.

In the future, I'll probably use it to get hints for the game I'm playing at the time, or maybe to discuss aspects of that game. I also hope they'll offer prizes for achieving trophies in PS3 games. The trophy room should also be much nicer way to view things, rather than the gamer card system currently being used.

At the moment, from what I've seen, Home is a glorified next-gen chat system. To succeed, there needs to be a significant tie-in to the game you're currently playing. When that's available, I think Home will be more alluring than it currently is.

There are so many possibilities with the mini and large games. Like having you avatar go to a beach where there can enter the water (like the bowling alley) and go for a surf, or many other activities. Image a seamless integration from Home to Skate? Simply just have to buy entry to that particular space and download the necessary code for the game. It's just so dynamically expandable. Sony would just need to get other developers on board to create the integrated games that go beyond bowling and lining up carriages.

Everyone has at one point dreamed about this. This is potentially the beginning of that.

That video pretty much sums Home up. There really isn't much to do but mess with people. Properties are 5 bucks which, if that's the case for the final version, I'll be staying in the studio with my 80's wallpaper and three pieces of furniture. Small accessories are still 50 cents which isn't much but I'd rather not go through the hassle. Seems like Home is turning into a joke rather than the revolutionary social networking simulator everyone expected.

It's getting annoying to find that idiots are still thinking that Home is a game. It's a social network. The obvious function is to be able to chat with people who share your interests in games. It's a place to meet new friends outside of just shooting each other in the face. It's a place to be able to ask "hey, is this game fun?" to real people before you buy something. It's 3D IRC. And for the last fucking time, Home is NOT A GAME! You're supposed to go on to chat with people. THose who are arguing like "if I wanted to just walk around and talk to people, I'd do that in real life." Then explain why you use AIM, MSN, Google Chat? Sometimes people want to chat with friends without having to waste minutes on cell phones or without having to reach for their keys and drive. Sometimes I want to talk to my clan mates outside of the game, so it's not all serious all the time. Sometimes I just want to hang out with my friends without actually moving from the comforts of my home. Unless all you want to do with the PS3 is to play games alone, then Home is useless. If you want to talk to other gamers and jump into games with people you just met and find interesting, then Home is perfect. Actually, if you want a social life without all the hassle, then Home is perfect. (well, it's not perfect right now, load time can be bothersome).

If chatting on a cell phone is "wasting minutes", what do you call the time it takes to walk around in a virtual world? AIM, MSN, Google Chat, and cell phones are quick and direct, Home is one of the slowest and more indirect ways possible to communicate with friends.

I agree.
Its amazing how much its split the gaming community.

There are a LOT more people than i thought that see no reason to talk to people online other than for competitive reasons.
They're the ones moaning that there are no guns in Home, so there is nothing to do.

Its like complaining that MSN or AIM has nothing to do!

explain why I use AIM, MSN, Google Chat?

Because they're efficient forms of communication. As a form of communication, a form of social networking, and a form of matchmaking Home is woefully inefficient. It just wraps them in glossy 3d to make up for that fact.

I prefer to call it the danceparty simulator.

I agree with you Rob. I have been using Home as a simple and easy way to interact with people. "why don't you use msn?" I do, but not everyone on my msn list has a PS3. In Home I know that EVERYONE I talk to has a PS3 and a PSN Id, so it's the most efficient way to make friends to play online and interact with them beyond a game's interface (I don't get to know people from kicking them in the face on Tekken Online)

berlindoctor, would you like to explain how aim and MSN and such is a more efficient way to communicate between gamers? How is AIM and MSN more efficient way to meet new people who share the same interest as you? How is AIM and MSN more efficient to meet fellow PS3 gamers who are strangers to you outside of competitive gaming?

In my experience, that video speaks more to the Home experience than the Penny Arcade strip. The gender bending to an extent, but specifically the swarming of female avatars. It's an interesting study in human behavior I take with a big grain of salt, but even my jaded eyes hurt from rolling at some of the situations on occasion....

When I'm talking with other PS fans/fanboys, I'll be honest with them. I don't think Home quite lived up to expectations. It's not revolutionary. It has potential, but even then, I think the hype went above and beyond what Home could provide.

But when I talk with people who aren't avid PS fans, I suddenly become very protective. Maybe I'll hear similar (or ruder) criticisms, and I'll jump in and say that it's very good for what it is and it's only a beta and will be much better later on.

I guess it's because everyone talks about how Xbox Live is the best online community, but I really wish PlayStation Network could get closer to an equal playing field.

Home has promise and if Sony keeps rolling out stuff for it on a regular basis it could transform into something awesome. Here's my only beef with it...the games in the bowling alley - you actually have to wait in line to play them?? Well shoot, that's just like real life, except instead of me waiting to bowl, I'm sitting on my couch making my virtual avatar wait to bowl. I get that it's a social interaction app, but seriously, I have to wait behind someone to play a digital arcade game?? What? I can just go to the real arcade and do that except at the real arcade, I can actually watch them play the game.

I can't understand why they made the games that way...I mean, there are going to expected to be hundreds, maybe thousands of people online @ Home at the same time...(let's hope it doesn't just occupy just 10 people at once for the final version).

Plenty of things to fix and address, but luckily this is still beta and somewhat acceptable as a beta.

One thing I dislike about home is if you're with a group of friends and you decide to move from one location to the next (e.g. Bowling Alley to the Central Square) it is almost guaranteed that you will all end up in different instances of the same place (ie. on different servers). I know it's because each server can only handle a certain amount of people, though you would never notice this if you were just exploring home by yourself. (it's witchcraft I tell ya!) One way me and my friends got around it was to let one person go first then the rest of us would go into our menu pads and click the option to join them. But this simple task is already way too tedious than it needs to be, since load times for each place are already horrendous, it feels like we're waiting twice as long to reach our destination. There definitely needs to be some kind of party system. Home really has a lot of potential, but right now it is severely lacking in some key areas. I would really like to see what they have planned for it in the future.

Honestly, idc for home. It's too much of a hassle to do and everyone is not into mini-games or MMOs. I like my Ps3 but Home is seriously un-needed. They should've spent that production money on things like their online service at hand. ya know... in-game features like Xbox has? Would be a good start since this whole console race is starting to be a "Copycat" fest. Honestly I feel NXE was executed better due to the fact it is like a secondary application. Home is too much of a hassle and like it has been stated several times, it really isnt much to do.

I must say, it's actually entertaining for me. The only thing that sucks is that the theater in the UK version of home is 100 times better than the US one. Better looking place, multiple theaters, WATCHMEN trailer! Aside from that, I honestly have no gripes about it other than arcade machines for my personal space are not yet available. People who were in the closed beta from early on got em, the fuckers!

You guys have the better square though, with Saucer Pop and the Jukebox. Though our chillout/chess area is lovely.
At least we don't have the awful Japan arcade (though they have darts).

Speaking of which, download Namco Arcade Beta from the JP store, and play it on your US account to unlock the arcade machines for your apartment.
Worked for me, an hour or two of gaming and my place is like an arcade now.

Home is a primary application that isnt needed unlike NXE where it is a secondary application where it isn't in the way. Anyways thats just my opinion. I've been in there a few but i find myself going into Japanese Home just to drool over the WKC and Dissidia trailers. It has potential though i guess. Could just gave ppl in-game voice chat, music and something else creative for PSN instead of this money-sink called Home.

I would consider this a golden opportunity for a website entitled "PS3FANBOY" to be more productive in its so called journalism. This is a BETA, that allows a user to create a likeliness of themselves, and use it in a social environment that allows you to play bowling, pool, chess, and arcade games for FREE. The potential here is great, and when one considers the game spaces have YET to be seen, I don't see why so many people are complaining.Sony has stated this is just the BEGINNING, and plenty of outside support has been signed already. But hey, one could always go to the 360's "NXE", and make a cartoon bobblehead of themself and do NOTHING with it.Oh wait, they Netflix, right Xbots?

I agree with maxpontiac 100%. I love bowling and chess. It's all free and I get to meet new people that like the same stuff that I do. Since home I have picked up my old games and played with new "friends" online. It's just a great way to meet "new Sony" people . The community is great although some guys can be idiots, I just wish there were an option to completely make the person harassing invisible to us. I hate fat guys that start blocking my view for bowling or they just randomly dance in your face . Other than that it has potential.

Andrew Yoon to me is down to earth. If Sony is fucking up (His article with Socom) they're fucking up. Socom is getting better though. Unlike alot of fanboys in general, they don't see that companies are actually making mistakes Ex.: "Oh ill get a back up Xbox for $200" wtf is that? Or when Sony launched a $600 console? RRoD and Sony's arrogance are huge problems yet people pass them off like its nothing. I had to say that since ive noticed Andrew has been getting hate for no reason.

And these are new movies unlike those 20,000+ decade old movies.damn I hate xbots.

I really don't understand what took Sony almost two years to complete since first showing us Home. The main problem is that all of the cool stuff they showed off such as media streaming and the Hall of Fame for your trophy collection has been stripped out and we are left with just the very basics. In my opinion, it's a complete joke until the features that were promised and shown off before are incorporated. Seriously Sony, it took years of development for this!?

I'll tell you what, if I knew back then what I know now, then I never would have spent that monthly fee on that service . . . . . wait a minute, I forgot that there is no monthly service. That's right there's that $50 annual fee . . . . . damn it! There is no $50 annual fee. (sigh)
Oh yeah, I never would have shelled out the dough to buy this . . . . . fudge!! I never spent a damn dime on it. WTF!! What the hell can I complain about then. . . . . oh yeah, I know! I want my free back! I hate having to spend nothing on something!! I mean crap, what the hell? That goes against the laws of both Jesus and nature! I protest!!!! I don't really understand the negativity. It's basically just a 3D chat-room for PS3 gamers, and that's all I ever thought it was supposed to be. Yes, it's missing some of the key features at the moment, but most of them are still coming.

Anyway, my take on it is that it will just be like PSN updates for me. I'll look forward to the updates, check them out, and then not pay much attention to it for the rest of the week. That's enough to keep me happy.
