Watch these Final Fantasy XIII and Versus XIII trailers while you still can

Oh, you still haven't seen the latest trailers for Final Fantasy XIII and Versus XIII? Man, we thought everyone had seen those old things by now. We guess you weren't hip enough to get into Square Enix's "Closed Theater" at the Tokyo Game Show earlier this year. Well, no worries -- said trailers were recently released on the Re: Final Fantasy XIII DVD and, following Newton's Fourth Law of Gaming Media Distribution, were unceremoniously ripped off their discs and launched into the internet. For as long as they remain unmoderated, we've got both posted after the break. Just make sure you're wearing appropriate protective eyewear, as many of you may find them eye-meltingly gorgeous.

it's nice how they just put "for playstation 3" for the ffXIII trailer as opposed to the versus where they emphasized the ONLY

either way I'm jittery for these two games

Both looked sweet but i like the darker tone presented in the versus trailer. I'm kinda bummed it's not coming out for 360 instead.

FF13 went multi, Square wants WEST market - look only at last NPD in America - you will know what very, very probably will happen.

that's because the trailers are Japanese. So it IS only for the PS3. it's only coming out on the 360 in America.

I'm disappointed that SE couldn't abort the Sony loyalty altogether and just put FFXIII on the 360 as well. How could it possibly hurt?

That was sick. in a good way. But what happened to XIII being on xbox 360? or was that just a rumor?
Doesn't matter to me, i made sure i had both systems when they came out.

The MAIN title Final Fantasy XIII will be gracing the 360 in all it's glory in the US at the same it drops for that psTRIPLE.

As for Versus it's an exclusive (for now ) on the ps3. Hopefully that changes in the future and I hope to God it does cuz I don't want to buy a ps3 for that.

Those videos look awesome. I would totally get up and change discs to continue playing these games. I guess PS3 fanboys just arent as dedicated as I am to play XIII.

Forward, like game installs instead? We're better off changing discs. MGS4 was the best example of the inferiority of installs. 20 minutes total, and splitting it up for each act only emphasized how much better off you'd be just switching the disc and going. It'd take less than half a minute, but for MGS4, you had to wait 3 minutes for every act, and 8 for the first. I would've gladly changed a disc for every act, though it wouldn't require that many discs, because it would've been much faster. Installs might have a place down the road, but on the PS3, where they serve to remedy the much too slow loading times, they're a step backward more than switching discs ever was.

i liked 8 too (granted, it's probably somewhere at the bottom of my "favorite ffs" list). the story and characters were less than good, but i actually liked the depth of the junction system. if not for that, i would've hated it, but it was enough to keep me playing it and have some fun doing it.

I thought GF weren't man-made? how would it be an allegory to technology upsetting the natural order if use of naturally occurring tools is what causes the upset?

I'm playing it right now, I really like it, but I'm definitely not as keen on the story as I was the first time around. Junctions are pretty cool though

All I DO know is that versus is being developed by the Kingdom Hearts team. From the look of it, the story will be WAY darker than the Roman Numeral.

As far as I know versus will not be turn based and has a darker story. Looks like the evil corporation angle as well. Both look incredible but I think Versus appeals more to me.

Well, one the main differences, as far as i know, is that Versus XIII is being developed by the teams behind FF VI to X-2, KH I&II, FFVII Compilation and Dissidia, basically the ones behind the most popular Final Fantasy games, while XIII is being directed by Motomu Toriyama and Toshiro Tsuchida, wich are behind FF XI-XII and the Front Mission Series.

I believe the reason behind two releases in the same universe is that anyone who buys one and becomes infatuated with the story will inevitabley buy the other; it guarantees two sales under most circumstance.

Both trailers are epic yet elicit very different emotions from me. I feel like Versus is going to be especially great from the storypoint angle. A tragic lovestory perhaps? Yet with elements of friendship, enemies, and an intriguing business aspect to it all.

Just great stuff.
Please Square Enix release Versus on the 360 as well! I honestly don't care when although of course I'd like them to come out at the same time but as long as I can get to enjoy the entire FFXIII experience on my 360 I'll be EXTREMELY happy with you!

It's also been rumored that both games will interact with each other based off of save files. Not sure if that's actually going to happen but it was rumored. If that's the case and you intended to play both it would make more sense to get both for the same console (PS3). Versus might come to the 360 eventually but probably not at the same time - maybe something like Bioshock did on the PS3.

And I'm gonna get a ps3 for it. Especially since the main title is already coming to the 360.

Part of me says Versus will go over than the other says it won't. SE hasnt really been gaining the love they hoped from US owners on the 360, it's all been the Japanese and that really isnt even alot. It's already been stated that their sales units are down 78%. But part of me thinks it will because to alot of developers lately MS is almost like the girl you can't get enough of. If Star Ocean flops then SE is just retarded.

Rumours are saying it's being because Nomura got all pissy about it, though.

Sorry while I love FF and I'm digging Versus I just don't think that it by itself will justify the price of a ps3.

But then again the ps3 may drop down in price to something reasonable so who knows.

But yeah my thoughts on FFXIII are that either Square is gonna release BOTH games at the SAME time OR they are going to release the main title at the same time for both systems, wait a few months, and then release Versus for BOTH systems. That to me seems like the more logical outcome. Only cuz if they release both games at the same time sales may suffer from FF overload. Diehards like me would get both at the same time if possible. But some may find their wallets too strapped for cash and settle for only one of the 2.

But yeah the ps3 has a great game in Versus and at this point it's the one game that I'm hoping sony loses exclusivity for because I'm loving everything about it so far.

It won't be in the West until 2010 at the earliest (same for the main title).

I imagine the PS3 will have a price cut sometime within the next two years. ;)

Thanks for being so considerate and caring. I still come here from time to time and read the blogs though I haven't had time to post lately (nor have I wanted to think about videogames). Today I have been enjoying a nice Sunday and my fiance is here at the house. Figured I would drop in and make a few post's. You won't see much of me but if you do it will be on a Saturday or Sunday night.

As for the save file interaction thing - Like I said I remember hearing it was a rumor. Remember when the game was first announced both were to be PS3 exclusives. Maybe it was a planned feature but has been cancelled - not sure.

I think Versus looks more like a HD remake of FF7 then anything else I will get both of them day 1 but at this point I'm much more excited about Versus mainly because of the darker story line, FF7 like story (evil corporation etc), art style and the fact it's more action than turn based. Both are going to be incredible but after watching two 5 minute videos you have to pick a favorite.

It's not like the FF stories all go together. Having one named XIII and one named XIII VS doesn't really make one better then the other. They are making them opposite to scratch everyone's RPG itch.

It's not like PS3 fans get preferential treatment from SE this generation. Hell XIII VS is the only exclusive PS3 users have. You have Last Remnant, Infinite Undiscovery and I believe the new Star Ocean as well as exclusives for the 360.

I love FF but I am more interested in White Knight Chronicles (which localization will take 6 months) and am considering importing it from play-asia.

Versus supposedly isn't coming to 360 because of Nomura.

Nomura said that XIII would be PS3 exclusive, but the decision was made higher up that it would go multiplatform. Nomura got pissed because he was basically made out to be a liar and threatened to walk. He was convinced to stay with the promise that Versus would remain a PS3 exclusive. That is what I heard anyway.

The last little bit of the FFXIII looked like it had some in game stuff. No gameplay, but in game graphics I think.

Aside from that though, yeah, pretty lame. Half these guys sound like they wanna buy the game just for the FMVs.

The last part of BOTH trailers was in game, actually, not just the FFXIII one.

Well, I say in game. I actually mean in-engine cutscene.

For some reason, the Versus trailer currently has slightly better graphics (presumably it's a more up to date build) so it's a bit harder to tell.
