Club Nintendo back up, accepting NA members [update]

After years of chanting "Let us in, let us in!," the doors to Club Nintendo have finally been opened to those living in North America. The service, which was announced this summer, takes the place of NOA's previous My Nintendo site. Nice to join you, Japan and Europe.
Already have your Nintendo gear and games registered on My Nintendo? Not to worry. Logging into the Club Nintendo site automagically converts your old account and – most importantly – makes sure Club Nintendo knows about all the stuff you've bought. So you can, y'know, start saving up for exclusive merchandise and other rewards, including the (now official) US version of Game & Watch Collection.
There's just one problem – after seeing the site with our very own eyes (!) it ... disappeared, and was replaced with placeholder art assuring us that Club Nintendo was "Coming Soon!" Lucky for us then that one NeoGAF user thought to grab a screenshot (seen above). Don't worry, you take the night off. We've got our clicking finger on the Reload button and we'll let you know when everything's back up. Now go have a drink, you look tired.
[Update: It seems – seems – that Club Nintendo is now live for good and all. Yep, it's up.]
[Thanks, Fernando]

Am I the only one excited about the Hanafuda cards?

False start, it seems. But that means it's right around the corner

Mr Game and Watch Collection would be one of those games I would buy in a Heartbeat like Intellivision lives! And then I would be asking myself why?
I bought IL and well Nostalgia is indeed deceiving.
Brodo @ Dec 15th 2008 11:26PM
I love you mr khan...... psych!!! I cant stand you your about as useful as a poopy flavoured lollipop

Hmm, I was able to transfer my nintendo account, but it shut down when I went to Club Nintendo home.
Markez (Anti-Panda Death Murder Squadron) @ Dec 16th 2008 1:12AM
I can't even find where to login with my regular mynintendo account. And the club nintendo doesn't seem to be working for me at all.
Moptimus Slime @ Dec 15th 2008 8:22PM
Ill register all my goods and wait (if only the Mario rack was a little bigger to fit Wii games). When I get a DSi, I'll certainly pick that card case (as long as its in black as well by then). Quick question: Whats the game card and stylus set?
Also, why would anybody need a Wiimote holder? I dont know many people who have trouble misplacing them
mr nimblewick @ Dec 15th 2008 8:24PM
Mr. Game & Watch Collection will finally be mine. Glad to see they are going to honor past registrations. Of course, I have no idea what my log-in is anymore.
uberpwner93 @ Dec 15th 2008 8:24PM
I'm still not sure how to get coins. How?
Moptimus Slime @ Dec 15th 2008 8:29PM
register Nintendo products. Every game has a sheet that says "REGISTER YOUR SOFTWARE" (or something similar) on it and a code. Enter that code, you'll be awarded 50 coins for Wii, 30 for DS, and 10 for WiiWare and Im assuming VC games. Also, you'll get coins for completing Nintendo-issued surveys

Fernando Rocker @ Dec 15th 2008 8:31PM
By registering retail games, systems, WiiWare, VC and Wii Channels and taking surveys.
Also, you get additional points if you register a game before 4 weeks of the launch date.

What I really want to know is when they'll be offering Wii points for virtual console purchases? Like they promised would be coming this year! on their UK website.
holyice7 @ Dec 15th 2008 8:26PM
When was the last time you could actually log into NSider or My Nintendo? I remember changing all my info in there to match my current e-mail, and changing my password to something more memorable, but that was back when Jenna from Golden Sun was still in the background of the page itself.
Well, at the very least, it says it accepted my membership info, so I guess I'm safe.
Maverick Saturn @ Dec 15th 2008 8:27PM
I'm curious at game and watch
Fernando Rocker @ Dec 15th 2008 8:28PM
Game and Watch for me...
And also, going to wait a little bit to see if the SNES Classic Controller comes to USA too.
Moptimus Slime @ Dec 15th 2008 8:55PM
speaking of controllers, any reason why I can't register Wii Remotes? I'd understand if I could only register Wii Remotes and Classics, but only games and hardware is limited.
ALH @ Dec 15th 2008 8:33PM
Im sorry, WHAT? 800 points for game and watch? 500 for playing cards? On the european site if you want anything decent you have to have FIVE THOUSAND or more stars. Those 400/600 cases up there? 5500 stars at least on the european site.
Great. Just, great. fuck you nintendo.
WPstart @ Dec 15th 2008 8:38PM
I don't think stars and coins are equal in value. While Europe get about 250 stars for a Wii game, the US get about 50 coins for a Wii game.
ALH @ Dec 15th 2008 8:45PM
Price < £ 19 (€ 29) = 100 Stars, Price £ 19-33 (€ 29-49) = 200 Stars, Price > £ 33 (€ 49) = 250 Stars
We still get the bum deal if you do get 50 per game, once you do the maths. Plus we dont have anything as cool as those playing cards or the game and watch collection for an accessible 'price' ;_;.
holyice7 @ Dec 15th 2008 8:33PM
Oh, yes, the SNES Classic Controller...
If I had one of those, I'd actually start buying point cards and Virtual Console games.
HEAR THAT, NINTENDO? I'LL BUY MORE STUFF IF YOU GIVE ME SHINY TOKENS NOW AND THEN!
VENOM @ Dec 15th 2008 8:33PM
Finally. Definitely getting the Game and Watch collection ASAP.
Maybe the Mario cap DS case, if that makes it too...
But will all my previously registered products contribute to the number of points I have? Or do I have to start that all over? I had a ton of stuff registered before, I'd hate to see it all go to waste...
Moptimus Slime @ Dec 15th 2008 8:44PM
they count
mr mobius @ Dec 15th 2008 8:56PM
Reminds me, I really must make a Club Nintendo account and some quiet saturday register all my Gamecube, DS, Wii and VC games on Europe.
Markez (Anti-Panda Death Murder Squadron) @ Dec 16th 2008 2:24AM
Don't get too excited, Mobius. I got nothing for registering a few GC games, as well as nothing for registering ExciteTruck.
I'm pretty irritated with myself as I have always typically just tossed the registration keys. Plus I still had a pile of DS boxes with them in their, but tossed all but 2 out when I was in a mad dash to cram crap into my car before I moved cross-country. Booooo myself.
Obie @ Dec 15th 2008 8:35PM
Holy crap! Freebeeeeees!
In A World (XBL) @ Dec 15th 2008 8:39PM
Can I use this to buy and/or win a Wii SNES controller?
Phillip @ Dec 15th 2008 8:40PM
I can't even log in.....
Help?
Ben @ Dec 15th 2008 10:29PM
Same here, I think they got wanged, I keep getting errors now and can't log in
uberpwner93 @ Dec 15th 2008 8:43PM
How much is each game worth?
I found 3 sheets with that. One in SSBB, Zelda:TP, and Super Mario Galaxy.
Strategy_Panda (The Sandwich Poisoning Crew) @ Dec 15th 2008 8:55PM
Its cool that they kept the points or coins retroactive.
I hope you guys get offers that are more interesting than Game and Watch though... like a limited edition DSi or something
AwesomeTown @ Dec 15th 2008 9:00PM
Who's excited? This guy.
Josh @ Dec 15th 2008 9:05PM
SHIIIIIIIT! AWESOME! I LOVE NINTENDO OF AMERICA!
BUT! How many Coins do we get per game? I hope it's not 100 per game or something...Otherwise all these goodies will be *expensive*.
Josh @ Dec 15th 2008 9:11PM
Oh, here:
http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/club/en/faq.jsp
# How many Coins will I receive for registering my game and taking the survey?
* Wii games = 50 Coins
* Nintendo DS games = 30 Coins
* Wii Shop Channel games and Wii Channels = 10 Coins
Only thing that (very very very very very very slightly) worries me is "and taking the survey". I haven't taken surveys for previous games (because they didn't exist), so I hope those games still count (I'm sure they will).
Josh @ Dec 16th 2008 3:40AM
I wish games were worth 100 coins. :(
I feel like we're getting ripped off, though. Japanese Club Nintendo Platinum membership is at 400 points, not 600, and the Game & Watch Collection is 500 points, not 800.
Does anyone know how many points games are worth on the Japanese Club Nintendo?
sam @ Dec 16th 2008 6:35AM
A quick Google suggests that Wii games are worth around 30 points on the Japanese Club Nintendo (rather than 50) so no you aren't getting ripped off.
(Europe is, though, if the figures mentioned above are correct; you get five times the points, but items cost ten times.)
Plokosh @ Dec 15th 2008 9:18PM
I want some Game & Watch!
Wiizer @ Dec 15th 2008 9:26PM
Cards!.......... I mean, Game & Watch GAME!!!
Rob Accomando @ Dec 15th 2008 9:30PM
So does having a "Nintendo Fun Club" membership from the 80's get me a butt load of points? haha
iofthestorm @ Dec 15th 2008 10:20PM
OK, I transferred my My Nintendo account, but I don't see any of the games I had registered earlier being listed. Guess I have to go redo that when I get home or something, ugh. Anyone get all their stuff automatically transferred? Before I had all my WiiWare and VC games showing up on My Nintendo (or well, the last time I checked which was probably over a year ago) and I had Twilight Princess, which is on their list of things that are worth coins now. What gives?
iofthestorm @ Dec 15th 2008 10:23PM
And, what the hell? Now I can't log in anymore, says my password is incorrect. I guess they're just having launch issues or something.
Shogan @ Dec 15th 2008 11:25PM
I had over 100 items registered last time I checked and NOTHING is showing up. If this is only for new items, Nintendo can suck it.
Thanatos @ Dec 16th 2008 12:05PM
Im in the same boat as well but i dont have the registration slips of paper anymore i wouldve hoped that they would at least transfer my old games list even if they weren't going give me coins for them.
Markez (Anti-Panda Death Murder Squadron) @ Dec 15th 2008 10:23PM
Very cool! The only thing I've gotten thus far from having registered any Nintendo products was the nifty stylus I got from Zelda on the DS. My girlfriend got the Wiimote keychain after getting the Wii Brain Academy.
Strategy_Panda (The Sandwich Poisoning Crew) @ Dec 16th 2008 4:45AM
I hope you make more use of that shiney account than just ordering a stylus and keychain.
Do you like tossing oil out a window? Then you should check out game n' watch.
By game n' watch I mean I may or may not have poisoned your sandwich. And by may or may not have poisoned your sandwich I mean foreplay between a parrot and a cat.

Ah the sordid dance of love...
MowDownJoe @ Dec 15th 2008 10:33PM
I CAN'T GET IN! It doesn't recognize my username and password, and it won't e-mail my old account info. And re-registering seems to lead with me at a dead stop on entering my e-mail.
MowDownJoe @ Dec 15th 2008 10:43PM
And to add to the pain, I get a javascript error everytime I try to recover my password. Test these things, man!
