I love this post! I would only add that the Video Games Live Orchestra needs to play parts of the musical scores for nominees. Maybe like clips throughout the show. This would work well next year for Final Fantasy XIII and Versus! Also, some more homage to video games past! I'd love to see some old school love mixed in with all the new sneak previews!

Just so you know John, I just read all your posts (I was bored, sue me) and well... after reading your reply... I can safely tell you that you happen to be a prime example of immaturity, idiocy, and lack of intelligence, rolled into a package and bundled together.

Sorry, but calling me a "douche" (which is slang and idiot speech) is not going to do anything, especially after the massive garbage you post everywhere...

Thanks, and bye.

And here is complete proof of justin's claim above: music is waaay too subjective. Keep it out of the show.

On other notes: I'm glad Jack Black was received well. He is one of those guys that I don't always find funny, but I really want to. He is a ridiculous, scruffy dork as well, which, excuse me for saying so, makes it believable that he knows a bit more about video games than the average fad celebrity that they could put up there.

Atleast they reduced the number of meaningless celebrities down this year. Last year there was more time given to celebrities then games.

I posted this elsewhere...and I think some of the match up with what Joystiq is suggesting. (Except for the music acts part...

1) Get celebrities who have actually done work in the gaming industry. This could be voice acting, motion capture, or are tied to a popular franchise.

2) Bring in people who are celebrities to the gaming world. The guys who do voices for iconic characters like Snake, Mario, Master Chief, etc. They may not have national star power...but to the people the awards show is supposedly for it would mean a lot. (And no, I don't mean have Snake present the award, that's stupid)

2a) Why not bring in some gaming media personalities to present awards or introduce acts. At least then when they say make nerd/gaming jokes they'll be able to say it with some conviction instead of stumbling over the teleprompter while looking for the nearest exit.

3) Mix in "big name" musical acts with "nerd" acts. Seriously...where the hell was Jonathan Coulton singing "Still Alive"? Or have Tenacious D perform Master Exploder instead of that bullcrap opening number. Why not get Freezepop in there?

4) Stop being a commericial. No, the Oscars don't run trailers for new movies. The VMAs only mention "upcoming projects" in passing while introducing presenters. Instead of integrating the "exclusive" into the show, do your awards show and have the exclusives during the commericial breaks. I guarantee you people will stay interested if you have them serve as buffers between breaks.

5) Get audience members who are actually gamers.

6) Stop milking the gaming stereotypes for a cheap laugh. You know you're doing something wrong when GAMERS are rejecting the awards show supposedly meant for them.

You captured exactly my sentiments on the musical acts. It's easy enough to complain about 50 Cent, but some gamers like 50 Cent. And some don't. Video games appeal to such a broad audience that it's silly to try appealing to their musical taste, let alone the fact that it's completely irrelevant in the context.

I barely saw an award show last night. It seemed like they had more trailers than they did awards. The jokes was aight but I wanted to see more awards. This year we had a lot of good games hit the market and Spike skipped over a lot of categories. If they didn't have all that singing and dancing then maybe they could've got to them all. As far as the award presentation I would like to see more people in the industry giving out awards. Even have some gamers (the ones that win tourney's) announce the categories. Oh and the award they most definately need to change it. A monkey that look like it took a trip back to the 70's doesn't do it for me. They need to do better a job because us gamers are not really a forgiving bunch and let us gamers pick the winners for each category.

Correction: EXCLUSIVE trailers. That seems to be the big focus for Geoffe Keiley. How much EXCLUSIVE stuff you can get. Its just so darn EXCLUSIVE that he can't contain himself.

I disagree Tigre,

The last thing I want is a person who won a Halo 3 or any such similar game (much less a sports title) tournament, to hand out awards for games, as they don't have the right to be included in even the polling of such games (unless it's public polling), as they aren't so much a gamer, as a person who practices on something for obsessive amounts of hours per year to be good at something that really isn't what I'd consider "valuable".

I'll stick with the designers and producers thank you, seeing as how they know what they are doing.

And no, generally only immature people like that type of music (GENERALLY being a very popular, but sometimes not always correct statement).

Video Games Live is something you can't insult, as it's illogical to insult the music from the games you actually play and like.

I love the games, I hate the fact it deals with immaturity.

Looking up the definitions pretty much support me in an infallible way.

Unfortunately, you seem to be an immature idiot (I read every post you've made, and so I have it on good credit that you are).

There's no need for vulgarities to make a point in games, the Master Chief and several other well known characters do it all the time... and they are adored. Only reason there were even vulgar terms in the game was because of the sergeant and of course the aliens.

I admit it had some plotholes, but Halo 3 had grand art, a story inside the terminals that was quite innovative, and including the books, a hidden line of story that had to be pieced together by people with... as you so simply put it, a "high iq".

BTW, what I do is categorize, label, and reveal... what you do is insult, harass, and act immature... there is a difference, and your post is just stupidity.

Finally, douche isn't a word in intelligent conversation, and thus your post can be taken as completely illogical and implausible... but to end things off in a final manner... pompous is fake dignity... I have dignity that isn't fake, and that's pretty obvious, since I have no false beliefs about what I say, and none of it is spun to fit my needs.

Popular doesn't mean good, and in the rare cases that the popular choices are good, I believe it is for a different reason, such as GoW 1 & 2 because of Co-Op and (aside from immature Cole and Baird comment) an interesting story.

I could easily insult Mass Effect for having immature "Renegade" comments, however in reality it's not so much immature as... well shoot first ask questions later, and thus I won't, and of course it has a grand story, especially if you tie it in with the books.

Sorry, but my 15 comments weren't immature, or illogical, as I make certain before I submit, just like I read CoC's and the ToS.

Amused for a moment,

- Cere.

Obviously you don't know anything about Halo, or at least the master chief... I was stating how HE "wasn't" one of the people using vulgar terms all the time... seriously play before you complain.

And actually, seeing as how I'm not immature, that does actually put my statements and opinions (or facts) far above yours since it is quite obvious you can't compete with intellectual discussions, past or present.

Plus, they aren't "bad words" as they are real terms, just the vulgar terms aren't the true definitions and thus it's like saying that the definition for "hello" is "I hate you".

Illogical and unintelligent.

Sorry, but my "ivory tower" is very comfortable and very fitting for anyone of an intelligent nature, which it seems you aren't compatible with.

Finally, I have to state once again that it's not the games that are immature per say, it's what happens in the games... That doesn't go for them all of course, GTA, and Saints Row among others are obviously examples of pure immaturity (and yes the developers were immature, or else they really wanted to sell games like they stated at VGA so they made a game for immature people) regardless what the decision was, it stands that the games would have been fine and received the same way if the vulgar terms were gone, infact I know a ton of people who would actually buy them if they did that.

I also don't mean by using a filter for strong language, the fact I need a filter in the first place to not be filled with idiocy in a game is the wrong thing... in truth if immature people are so dependent on the aggressive nature they require and eat up with a spoon then have the option to turn on "immature behavior".

You do realize the rating Mature actually means Immature... since logically a 5 year old is more mature than most individuals as it hasn't actually done anything immature in it's life.

It's an irony of sorts, but it's humorous.

All I see is "Harass, Insult, and Immature Responses".

I simply "reveal" your nature, "categorize" your behavior, and of course "label" your type.

Slightly still amused,

- Cere.

I think they need to stop trying to copy the model that the Oscars and other award shows use. Not only does it seem dated for such a technology oriented show, but the entire world is sick of the format to begin with.

Really, for video games, does there even need to be a real audience? Youtube Live did something interesting with its almost entirely online presence. Doing something like that with video games (stream to 360 & PS3) would be fantastic.

I agree for the most part of what you say. Less "celebraties", feature more of the developers and just give us a lot more trailers. Trailers and announcements I think are just what most gamers want to see.

Also, how about we have someone from the industry actually host the show? Geoff Knightly, Adam Sessler, Stephen Totilo? All would make excellent hosts, especially Geoff.

Oh my fucking god Cere!

You ARE extremely pompous! Pompous is a false sense of self-worth and arrogance, YOU do not get to decide if it is false or not. OTHER people decide, the general belief is that you ARE pompous, because you look down on every one, and consider yourself to be the only intelligent person in the world, and that you think that every one else makes you look bad.
YOU are the immature one, you are the one that needs to belittle every one, being immature isn't what you say, it is just language, the way you speak is just as immature as the phrases that I use, or any one else uses. By saying that you are a douche, they mean to say that you are an asshole, which means that you are being unfriendly, and mean to everyone.
You are immature because the basis of what you are saying is: You are all worse than me, I am the best! Everything you say doesn't matter because you're so stupid and immature, and I'm so great, but you can't understand this because you are so dumb! You guys suck so much that you are making me look bad, and you are all always wrong.

No matter who they are, what language, or manner in which they speak, everyone agrees that you are being a DOUCHE.

Now please, grow a pair.

Why not have top rated Rock Band or Guitar Hero players duel it out live, or create custom maps for a 1 minute first kill wins death match? Or drag the celebrities out there and see who can really play games?

I suppose I shouldn't be surprised that people would exaggerate the situation by leaps and bounds.

I never stated everyone in the world aside from me was immature, so please get your facts correct. In fact, all I stated was that the majority (majority means 50.1% or more) are, which is actually a proven fact based on the history, direction, and societies of the world.

Also, "everyone agreeing" would mean all 8.93 plus billion people agreeing with you, and a consensus of that number hasn't happened in history, and never will either. Sigh, if you want to be taken seriously, at least stop with the exaggerations and use some real logic.

Pompous means fake dignity, and having 2 immature idiots rate me as pompous, doesn't make it so, especially seeing as how I've had some good conversations with other people, and many people I know agree with me on my points.

And finally, it seems that you realized you were incapable of competing with intelligence and so like many other idiots in the past, present, and unfortunately the future... you decided to resort to immature insults, vulgar terms, and harassment.

I'm amazed you even think I care what an idiot thinks about me... I only respond because it's polite.

Amused even less by the blatant idiots,

- Cere.

First off, my father isn't a pervert (else he'd be in prison), and secondly as I already stated, it's polite to respond when someone responds to you, that's the only reason I even reply.

However, that last post of yours was reeking with immaturity, and not even you can deny that (unless of course you're stupid to).

Being a moron would show a lack of knowledge, I only comment on how people have a lack of intelligence, or essentially they don't use their knowledge in conducive ways, and instead do what you do. Everyone is smart, meaning they have knowledge, and thus you once again got everything wrong, and seem to be incapable of replying intelligently, or even sensibly.

I already posted a while ago, that I'm a bit too irritated with idiots recently to type as perfectly as I normally do on most other forums or journalism sites.

Pleasant night,

- Cere.

Here's one you forgot: stop pretending that the Japanese aren't part of the industry.

I understand it's an American award, but putting in games you know aren't going to win as a fanboy appeasement isn't really doing much for the respectability of the award, either. I think there's been all of 8 games from Japan that have been given VGAs, and most of those were DS games. Drop the "buy American" subtext and people might bother caring more.

Hey, I'm all about women, I love them. But since no one is going to read this as its 4 pages of comments and several months old, I'm going to be honest. I didn't watch 2007 video game awards, but had I known there would be topless presenters, I would have been all over it. Jack Black in all his chubby glory, Oh yeah!
