New games this week: Rise of the Argonauts edition
The only reason we have hesitation about this week's biggest release, Rise of the Argonauts, is its relatively deep placement in the holiday season. But that's not right, is it? After all, we've been asking publishers to spread the games out, why should we discount one because it's late to the party?
Let's all keep our fingers crossed and hope that RotA's release date was a crafty strategy (or a fluke) more than an intentional burial. See all the new releases after the break.

"Calvin Tucker's Redneck Jamboree"
Joystiq, you are teh biased for not putting the REAL game of the week's cover on the this post.
Martin @ Dec 15th 2008 9:39AM
A real game for REAL Americans.
xFenixKnightx @ Dec 15th 2008 9:47AM
I'm just blown away at the fact that this is a real game. Somewhere out there a redneck is crying proudly thinking about how far they've come. :P
vidGuy @ Dec 15th 2008 9:52AM
I went to a school with a kid named Kalvin Tucker. Yes, I'm from rural Illinois.
kaneda @ Dec 15th 2008 9:54AM
It's a wii game.
Poisoned Al @ Dec 15th 2008 9:31AM
I haven't even heard of Rise of the Argonauts, so my money is on a shallow grave.
Geist @ Dec 15th 2008 9:33AM
Wow. Not exactly a great week. I mean I love my Candace Kane's Candy Factory as much as the next guy but...yeah.
Oh well, guess it's time to get Persona 4.
xFenixKnightx @ Dec 15th 2008 9:46AM
Leonidas?
Wiinterfang @ Dec 15th 2008 10:06AM
That's the spanish name of Sabretooth xD, Wolverine is Guepardo.
DJisGOD @ Dec 15th 2008 9:53AM
iv been playing rise of the argonoughts and its not that bad. my main issue with the game is the lack of a compass or arrow to your next objective as accessing the map is tiresome.apart from that its actually quite good.
Dante G @ Dec 15th 2008 9:55AM
Is that psp list actually rhe DS list or does the psp gets its massive shovelware too? Also that game called "PC games:" should have been the game of the week.
SuperAfroBoy @ Dec 15th 2008 10:18AM
Yeah, there are actually no new releases for the PSP this week, those are the DS ones.
The Dark Wayne @ Dec 15th 2008 9:58AM
God I'm worried about Rise of the Argonauts, I had such high hopes for it when it was revealed in Game Informer, but it seems like this is another case of a game being rushed out the door to meet the holiday season.
Dirty @ Dec 15th 2008 10:17AM
Yea, I thought it seemed like it would be very cool. I guess we just have to wait for the reviews to roll in. Doubt very much that I will be sending in any gameflys to get this too my door any time soon anyway.
Stupid holidays.
Roto13 @ Dec 15th 2008 10:00AM
I didn't realize Rise of the Argonauts was trying so desperately to look like 300. That's kind of pitiful.
ScottG13 @ Dec 15th 2008 10:21AM
How so? A dark haired male with facial hair and weapons from the classic mythological period must be "trying so desperately to look like 300?"
baby sea tuna @ Dec 15th 2008 10:28AM
Uhh...
http://meltaylor.files.wordpress.com/2007/10/300-movie-400a0309.jpg
I'm gonna go with intentional.
Roto13 @ Dec 15th 2008 10:29AM
Come on. Look at that background and tell me it's not a blatant ripoff of the movie 300.
j.howlett @ Dec 15th 2008 10:51AM
yeah the european box art does look like they're trying to connect with something popular and kind of pulling a baja thing. it's also like an army game, you expect some similarities seeing as how it's the same genre with the same activities and the equipment and weapons are similar
Hashbrown Hunter @ Dec 15th 2008 10:53AM
Yeah, the cover for the game is VERY reminiscent of 300. But if you've seen trailers/gameplay vids it actually has some wonderful art design to it that is more colorful fantasy than super-high contrast shades of brown.
xFenixKnightx @ Dec 15th 2008 10:19AM
I had never even heard of RotA's till today. Just saw some vids and it looks decent. Still gotta see how the controls and camera turn out and maybe I'll rent it down the line.
I love renting a game I dont have too high of expectations for and then turns out to be really solid.
OMGOMG @ Dec 15th 2008 10:23AM
That boxart is pretty damn tacky.
xFenixKnightx @ Dec 15th 2008 10:36AM
Yeah I saw different boxart on GameFly. Not sure if its any better though.
