Somewhere in Holland, a dike holding back a slew of new Uncharted 2: Among Thieves screenshots and concept art just broke wide open. Full-resolution screens from an area in the game not seen in either of the two videos released thus far have appeared on Dutch gaming site XGN, and are quickly saturating the rest of the 'net.
Naughty Dog has confirmed via the NeoGAF forums that these are, in fact, in-game shots. They show protagonist Nathan Drake shooting, sneaking up on, and grabbing a riot shield from new, decidely non-piratey enemies. There's also been a breach of a reservoir carrying concept and character art, one piece in particular showing Drake's new sidekick, Chloe. All told: head explode?

Environments look great.. but for some reason, I don't like the character models too much.. kinda look outdated to me for some reason.

Well, I guess we wouldn't be videogame nerds if we didn't PICK APART EVERY LITTLE THING.

You've just summed up most games on the market today, I can think of few that look different to Uncharted, plastic is the new thing these days.

Those are PR shots, incredible AA and AF etc. - probably scalled from extremaly high resolution.
The real game will be more rugged - and the plastic effect will be masked.
Looks great.
When will it come out?
Christmas 2009 or somtime in 2010?

Why in the world was my comment down voted? I didn't say anything wrong.. at least, not in a gamer's eye.. Fanboy? Yeah, probably.

And.. so saying something that's my opinion is wrong? Because now I know that Uncharted has to be loved no matter the flaws or you are a bad person.. thanks people! ^_^.

Your comment was not crazy off the wall rude like most idiots that get down voted, so I totally gave you a plus click. Shouldn't get downvoted if your post was rational.
Though, have you seen Uncharted in action? The detail they put into the character models, especially the clothes, is amazing. When you walk into water, like just enough to get wet up to your knees, only that part of your pants are wet when you get to dry land - the rest of your body is still dry. It's crazy.
Though, you're definitely not wrong for posting your opinion. You would be, however, if you said "This game looks totally stupid and you're all idiots of you bought the PS3 for this!! Gears of War beats the crap out of this crap!!@"
Then you would be wrong XD

Those ARE PR bullshots - no jaggies in sight AA X32 or higher incredible AF.
Compare it with realtime trailer relased today - it has a little of jagged edges (2xAA or 4xAA - and 4xAA MAX on PS3!).
You wont find anything like this on those leaked screens.
The screen that came out - the ones you/we are seing now are PRESS materials - specially prepared to PRINTING in paper mags.

"we didn't touch the lighting, animation, texture, shader, post-processing, etc., etc. systems when taking these screens during actual gameplay.
doubt and challging us is healthy though, so no worries. we've got a year ahead of us to show the proof in the pudding once everything is in place."
From a ND employee on GAF.
Really, when they released the first screenshots of Uncharted 1 as well, everyone thought they were bullshots too. Look how that turned out.

Saying period at the end of a sentence with so many periods is silly. You're silly.

The level of detail is amazing. My only problem is naughty dog's policy of making all textures by hand(no photos). In a lot of places is makes everything look nice and smooth, and prevents that "it looks so real that it seems unreal" effect, however sometimes it just looks weird, almost like they just kinda cell-shaded random things

I know, the amount of detail is incredible, ESPECIALLY since all the cutscenes (like this one) are made with the game's engine.

This game will rock like the first one because of one simple equation... Half Tuck Shirt + Guns = Cool....

Yo Panda... lighten up on the caffine, I get the point. But the half tuck still looks better. He looks a little less cool with the whole full tuck thing going on...

the front is also still half tucked on HIS left side.
he hasn't sold out just because he's on the best looking console game, yet.

Being "PS3 exclusive" didn't seem to help Haze very much did it?

These are the images in the Game Informer Article. There are these and about 15 more in the actual article, though obviously not as high def. Quite a great read really made me look forward to the game even more so then the trailer did.

Lovin' that KZ2 engine. It seems like detailed environments and lighting effects are the bread and butter of the technology.
Plus it looks even better in the day time!

When they made the first Uncharted they used their own engine and I doubt they've switched engines since then.

oh well,
I thought I read somewhere that they were using KZ2. I will stand corrected until someone tells me otherwise

Naughty Dog (God amirite) use a variant of the EDGE toolset and engine that they, Gorilla Games, Sony Santa Monica, and I think Sony Liverpool created, not sure on the last one. But in essence, and if you really want to reach, they share some portions of their engines amongst themselves.
Gorilla Games actually came up with the shadowing technique that produces clean shadows. Watch the credits for Uncharted: DF again and look at the studios listed under "Thanks to"
