Look, my PS3 is probably my favorite console out of all the ones I've ever owned, but Home is garbage and Dan Hill is smoking crack if he thinks this will ever be a system seller.

I've logged in twice and all I see in it is a place where morons can congregate when they get bored of xbox live and internet message boards. Hell, theres even an article on joystiq about the fine art of quincy-ing. what a grand social experiment.

and if Sony weren't content enough to try and gouge us with "premium" themes for the XMB, try spending real money on items that will never add a thing to any worthwhile or entertaining experience on your PS3.

If theres any kind of potential for something worthwhile, let alone revolutionary in Home, it hides it very well.

I really can't see it, a system seller, no.. A strange sims type character, with oddly fitting clothes..
Yeah it'll grow into something, but for me, it would actually be a sims-esque evolution.. it may be that 5 years from when it goes 'gold', there'll be a Home 2 that fits what we're thinking it could be at the moment when it reaches it's fruition..

It could be really a great thing when you just want to chill with mates & not really in the mood for a proper game..

Now what I think would of got it for me, personally, Sack Boy.. in a LBP type apartmentworld, with the amount of customisation on one base character.. I think that is really cool.. I'm not into anything where I build levels, because I'm rubbish at that sort of thing.. I just want a character to customise & be mine.. I'm not sure how the 'Home' world would work like that, but my own Sack Boy that is part of my gaming identity is what would really appeal to me.

Would someone please enlighten me as to what this "potential" is? Everyone who likes Home always defends it by citing the "potential" it has, without being able to explain WHAT might be done with Home one day that would make it worthwhile.

You're saying the same things that people say every time a new platform appears.

Why would I use Home when I can just use IM? Why would I use IM when I can just use IRC? Why would I use IRC when I could just use email? Why would I use email when I could just use real mail?

That's too linear a progression, but even so - each of the systems mentioned above has is own advantages.

Home is already showing its potential in the friendships and communication it's facilitating. It's a really good networking tool. It depends on people. The potential is similar to when the Web wasn't so full..

What do you expect Home to do for you? It's going to be an excellent framework for programmers to make small games and have them distributed in a fun, low risk way.. It's a great place for people to advertise.. It can, and will bring more gamers to the PS3. It absolutely WILL, no question. Girl gamers, casual gamers. Older gamers who just want to chill and socialise and not be shouted at by a load of XBL style kids. I've seen all these groups in home and on the forum and they're all making it their own.

The other consoles dont give the community much in terms of ownership. Yes it's all still sony's but this is much more tangible and will give a lot of people a greater emotional attachment to their PS3 and Sony brands.

The hardcore did all this hating on the Wii, and look how that's doing now. The difference is that Home doesn't completely isolate the hardcore, and will cater for them quite nicely.

In depth enough?

When the iPod was first announced millions of people went "meh! it plays music, I can already do that! This is a huge waste of time! They should be working on their core business!!" ;)

This has to be the worst statement from Sony, ever. Home a system seller???? You've got to be kidding. Many are already bored of it and IGN said that it was a mistake from Sony to introduce Home to the gaming world. In all honesty, I never really gave a damn about it. Doesn't make much sense to me. MSN, FaceBook and PSN are enough for me. I really feel sorry for Sony.

I have a PS3, and have to say about "HOME" is, so what? Great, now I can furnish a pretend, apartment, with pretend furniture. Design and where fake clothes, in a virtual world. Go outside of my fake apartment, and down to the fake Mall, and meet other's who are also pretending to be something that they are not.

While we all enjoy looking at REAL life ads. We all can "make believe" that our virtual "home" in a virtual world is better than my real life one. Jesus Christ, come on... Can't anyone see what this REALLY IS?

It's a freaking "Doll House for Boys"! That's what HOME is, and that's NOT what I bought a PS3 for.

The hatred you're applying to the FAKEness of Home amuses me. You know none of the games you own contail real things either? Obviously everything in home is fake. Everything in WoW is fake, doesn't stop people spending millions of man-hours using it. Oh no, gamers using escapism? Isn't that the whole point? Aren't you always "pretending to be something you're not?" - a lot of people are really honest on there anyway.

It's not a dolls house for boys any more than Oblivion is a wardrobe simulator for medieval looking guys - you're taking a tiny part of the home experience and making it out to be the whole thing.

Achievements and trophies are super fake. That "trophy" is a collection of pixels. People still collect them. There's no difference. Dolls houses equally about collection - you still likely have the same mindset with different window-dressing. Half of the stuff you can get in home you unlock by playing the games inside Home..

Nobody's trying to pretend the world in Home is better, everyone I've met is intelligent enough to see it as part of this world. It's not a roleplay to most people. It's a networking tool.

I thoroughly expect most of you to be eating crow within two years. :D

My gut feeling may be wrong but I really do think the stink you guys are kicking up is going to blow back right into your faces.

Sounds to me that you're trying to convince YOURSELF that you like HOME. You are definitely alone in that opinion. Two years is a long time to wait around, hoping that Sony serving crow for us "nay sayers".

Please, I'll guarantee that you'll have your heart-rebroken in 6 months, before Sony starts warning the pots.

Home is ok right now, but at the same time it sucks there isnt much to do. I can careless about Home, i just want to enjoy the new exclusives that are coming out early 2009. I love gaming i dont care about Home, though maybe later on it will be much better but i dont like the idea about them charging to freaking buy furniture for your place or buy other stuff. Thats just stupid, i think. Sony should make a price drop for the PS3 if they really want to sell more.

There's something that I don't understand personally... If you really don't like home, why are you wasting your time talking about it?? it's not like Sony is forcing you to go to your ps3 and play home and then making you pay in order to do stuff there... If you don't like it then stop playing it, end of story! people are really funny. You don't want to use it then don't use it, it's that simple. At least Sony's trying to give us something new.

Yea, these guys are the person who said "why the heck you want a cassette player with a small speaker stick to your ear? It's a total waste of time and money for Sony!" Heck, if they dont invent anything, they say Sony is a layback non innovative company, if they started something, they say Sony is wasting their time and money.

I like Home, don't really use it much but play some bowling with my overseas friends in the weekend, it's like a gift that Sony create for me for my purchase of PS3 and I appreciate their effort.

I don't understand why so many people are saying game launching isn't there yet.

It is, at least with Warhawk. I've started 2 games from Home so far. Once you've set up the game launching, your avatar will show the name of the game right under your PSN name along with the number of players already in the game and the max number of players. Anyone that wants to join your game just needs to walk up to you in Home and hit X to join the game.

We just need more games to support it, but its definitely there.

I was with the 60% when I voted and the first time I went onto Home but now I'm getting closer to the 15% that love it! I still think there's a lot of potential and a lot more things need to be added but last night I ended up (accidentally) staying on Home for a few hours with people I've never met before! I just completely lost track of the time and I spent most of that time just messing around in Home Square!

Home is what you make it!

@mixelmagic

You really need to get a grip. I see you trolling all over this post trying to convince everyone just how much we should all like HOME. Jesus, it's just sad. You either work for Sony, or you are stuck so far up their asses, all you see is brown. HOME is what it is --- a waste of time and money.

Time and man power that could have been spent developing new games, adding DLC content of NEW levels for old games. Getting PS2 games on the PSN Store. Anything. But what we have instead, is this complete waste of time and you as the resident cheerleader. Are you kidding? Stop it, you're just embarrassing yourself.

There's no point discussing it...

- "it's f***ing $h!t" what a waste of PR, money, staff, dev and bandwidth.... why not sort out the game servers, messaging, and friends features.

Why not learn to walk before you can run. What part have I missed about the next generation gaming experience. I hate Sims and that beats this!
