Spike 2008 VGAs name Boom Blox best Wii game

World of Goo won Best Indie Game or Best Downloadable Game or something like that.

But the VGAs are ass, so whatever.

I wouldn't even consider Boom Blox as a posibility. I'd choose Brawl, World of Goo or Okami

Boom Blox was very fun, but come on! Let's get real! World of Goo is outstanding, and Brawl takes the series to a whole, nuddah, lebel.

I must be missing something. I bought this game a while ago (for $50) and it is honestly my only Wii investment that I truly regret. i got through most of it in a couple of sittings, the controls were painful in some gameplay types, and the much-lauded multiplayer fell flat for me. Any tips on how to get my money's worth?

Super Smash Bros is the most overrated game ever! I don't know how you "hardcore" gamers think it is such a good game. Boom Blox wasn't the best selection but a decent one. Mario Kart and PES 2008 were better games. Okami was a PS2 port so that can't count. There really wasn't a huge selection to choose from so there you go. I would have picked Mario Kart because the online is the best and the unlockables are pretty difficult.

Seriously, something went wrong here. Who ever doesn't instantly give Brawl game of the year (at least for Wii) is insane. And Boom Blox? There are a lot of better games for Wii than that.

I can't understand the appeal of Boom Blox. I was painfully bored of the game within the first 10 minutes or so. I kept pressing on, in the hopes that it would 'get better'. Nope. But my arm did start to hurt after a while. That was the most exciting part of it.

I mean, yeah, it's cool enough to see a 3rd party game get the honors, but not with Brawl in contention.

Brawl is a carbon copy of the GC version with more features except it plays crappier (asks anyone who plays competively).

NMH was an average-playing action game with cool asthetic.

Boom Blox uses the Wii to its fullest, has a ton of content, and anyone can enjoy it.

The only other game that should have maybe won was Mario Kart Wii, I don't even own Boom Blox and I still think it's better than Brawl, and that one I own, I'm not saying Brawl is fun, as far as game concept, Boom Blox is way more innovative and memorable

Brawl is fun and jam-packed with features (although the map editor is completely disappointing and Subspace is disappointing as well) but it is DEFINITELY overrated.

Mario Kart Wii is without a doubt my choice. Nearly flawless online play and fun multiplayer makes it a huge hit for me. I haven't played Boom Blox, but it does smell like something underhanded was going on. Giving it GOTY in the face of big names like Brawl and MK Wii? Not likely. I take pretty much all GOTY awards with a grain of salt, much less one from a mainstream channel like Spike.

The VGAs are a joke, an unspeakably crass, self-indulgent exercise in advertising and sensationalism. And regardless what they may lead you to believe, its essentially a spectacle conjured up by non-gamers FOR non-gamers, the kind of people who only play RB and GH and Wii Sports on occasion.

I mean really, this is hilarious. Bioshock GotY 07 when it should have gone hands down to Orange Box, and now BOOM BLOX as Wii GotY?

How much money did EA bribe these petulant tools? That baby's toy of a "puzzle" game, that laughable diversion of a time-waster, a casual game that's probably too casual for most casual gamers.

Deserving. World of Goo might've been slightly more deserving.

However if they had decided on such a mediocre (at best) game as No More Heroes as best wii game of the year, that would've just been sad for the wii.

No More Heroes would definitely deserve a Most Overrated Game of the Year award if they had it, and would probably be high in the running for most overrated game of all time. How it still gets praise shoveled on it, I'll never know.

I don't know if anybody remembers, but last year, the Spike VGA nominees for Best Xbox 360 game and Game of the Year were exactly the same. Rigged, right?

The VGAs are pathetic, money hungry media heads looking to make money on every source of entertainment. At least they could have had Samuel L. Jackson do it like he does it every year. Jack Black? Jesus christ dude just go away.

I just dont understand how year after year games on Nintendo consoles get shafted at these vgas. I stopped watching after the first one, but year after year, the awards always make the gamecube/wii/ds look like a childrens toy. I mean, they had a great opportunity to give Brawl a much deserved award, but instead they gave it to Boom Blox, which, while it isnt a bad game, isnt exactly a Brawl. And instead of giving The World Ends With You an award for either best RPG or best HANDHELD, they ignore it for God of War, which while a servicable game, wasn't close to either the quality of PS2 GOW or TWEWY. Then again, maybe i'm just so used to being shafted in representation in the media that i'm looking for conspiracies.

Wow i knew the Spike VGA were a joke but come on Boom Blox? Seriously? I get its a True Wii Game as some of you put it but how many people do you know that actually own the game? While i wouldve loved to see No More Heroes get it (HUGE FANBOY) its cool that it even got nominated but then again it was kinda a slow year for the Wii other than Brawl and Kart.
