At times, it's getting difficult to manage these lists. There's only so much that can be written about GoldenEye 007 that hasn't been written before. Actually, scratch that: there's virtually nothing non-anecdotal that can ever be written about a game like GoldenEye 007. It's been praised to the heavens, secrets lying deep within its data have been excavated, and everyone has a personal story about enjoying it with friends. But to remove it from this list based on its over-familiarity would be nonsense; this is the best licensed game of all-time.
Nearly every pre-Daniel Craig James Bond-based game attempted to recreate the sublime nature of the N64 classic. There was even a direct sequel to the game called GoldenEye: Rogue Agent, but this was correctly perceived as a lame attempt to recreate the success of Rare's incredible developing style at the time. This and other attempts have been in vain, as there's no Bond game better than GoldenEye 007. As I mentioned before, the best bet for those who enjoyed the N64 classic is to check out the TimeSplitters series. GoldenEye 007, as well as all of the games on this list, is proof that a good developer can make lemonade out of even the biggest lemon of a license. To be fair, an action game based on James Bond isn't terribly difficult to imagine. But it's really Rare whose allure was increased after the release of this game, not the film series.
