VGA 2008: See Dante's Inferno, Watchmen, Terminator Salvation and more

So, what's the verdict? Do these clips have you pumped for 2009? Or are you holding out judgment until you can see a little more gameplay and fewer cinematics?

I liked the Mafia II trailer, but not my type of game. Dante's Inferno looks interesting though. I really want to know more about what you, the player, do and see some gameplay. I'll be keeping an eye on it.
ogvor @ Dec 15th 2008 11:33AM
Wow, that Dante's Inferno games is going to be pissing a lot of people off. And you thought the Catholic Church had a problem with Resistance...
Then again, maybe they like the idea of kids pretending to destroy demons?
soviet chick @ Dec 15th 2008 12:05PM
It was the Church of England (Anglican) that had the Resistance Problem.
ogvor @ Dec 15th 2008 12:32PM
Thats right, my bad.
Misfit Toy @ Dec 15th 2008 1:17PM
I liked Dead Space, but I'm going to stay clear of this one. I probably WOULD get offended by it. Fine with me. Plenty of games in the world to play that I could skip one.
SoulBlade @ Dec 15th 2008 1:37PM
Holy crap Misfit! Instead of complaining about a game you're just not going to play it? If I could +100 you (easily), I would.
Strategy_Panda (The Sandwitch Poisoning Crew) @ Dec 15th 2008 2:37PM
I read the Comedy and thought it was one of the best things I've ever read.
That being said, the game is "based" on the stories, so I can't complain to much. It doesn't look like the kind of game I would be interested in playing anyways.
The only thing that annoys me is the fact that a lot of kids will play this game and get an incredibly fucked up idea of what the Inferno is actually about.
syrik zero @ Dec 16th 2008 9:14PM
I read the condensed version of Dante's Inferno in High School. That was years ago so I don't remember too many details. But I do remember really enjoying it. I can remember the basics of a few levels of hell and that's all. Maybe I should pick the whole book up and give it a read. Either way I'll gamefly this game. Looks good enough for that at the least
Fernando Rocker @ Dec 15th 2008 11:33AM
Wow... Dante's Inferno looks very interesting.
samfish @ Dec 15th 2008 11:44AM
Interesting is certainly ONE word you could use to describe it...
Obie @ Dec 15th 2008 11:45AM
I loved Dead Space, so whatever those guys are doing next has my attention. And yes, stabbin a ghoul in the head with a crucifix is badass, hehe.
Maverick Saturn @ Dec 15th 2008 4:39PM
Dante won't be very pleased :) They should battle it out :O
Peter Szijarto @ Dec 15th 2008 11:34AM
im first!!
MAFIA TWO LOOKS SWEET!
Shmil @ Dec 15th 2008 11:39AM
Nope
Peter Szijarto @ Dec 15th 2008 11:41AM
yea i was looking for my password
baby sea tuna @ Dec 15th 2008 11:48AM
That doesn't make "firsting" any more excusable.
Tony Tornado @ Dec 15th 2008 11:50AM
[If you're not first, you're last!]
Also, DI looks good, though if it turns out like Jericho I'll be kicking puppies... in hell.
Peter Szijarto @ Dec 15th 2008 3:10PM
well i was first when i looked and when i submitted i wasn't. oh well
flanked @ Dec 15th 2008 11:37AM
They're making a Dante's Inferno game? Well, I guess I can finally convince my investors to green light my Wii Ware party game, The Canterbury Tales.
Maverick Saturn @ Dec 15th 2008 11:39AM
The Watchmen Trailer made me cry...
Jose @ Dec 15th 2008 11:41AM
Really, not excited for Fight Night 4? At least you didn't even bother to mention the bro love sim that the UFC is going to put out.
Also, loved the trailer itself for Mafia II, not very hopeful about the game.
Obie @ Dec 15th 2008 11:42AM
I never read the Watchmen graphic novels, but the trailers have been more bizarre than enticing.
We'll see.
AwesomeTown @ Dec 15th 2008 12:03PM
It is on Amazon.com for only $11.99. I just got it recently and read it for the first time. So just get it, you won't regret it.
Obie @ Dec 15th 2008 12:30PM
Oh I love David Moore's work, but this one seems a bit out there. Not that it's a bad thing.
ThornedVenom (Harley Quinn Defense Force) @ Dec 15th 2008 12:47PM
*Alan Moore
Obie @ Dec 15th 2008 1:08PM
I stand corrected, my bad.
The Dark Wayne @ Dec 15th 2008 1:31PM
you could have been reading someone elses books that whole time!
Obie @ Dec 15th 2008 1:36PM
My life is a lie! :(
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Dec 15th 2008 1:59PM
Psh. David Moore was awesome. Alan Moore only got where he was by copying off of David's epic graphic novel, Watchmex.
Maverick Saturn @ Dec 15th 2008 4:37PM
Watchmex? Whats that? Is that better then Watchmen?
AwesomeTown @ Dec 15th 2008 11:47AM
Hopefully the combat has some good depth for the Watchmen, because it's looking pretty good.
I'll reiterate the sentiment here that Dante's Inferno does look extremely interesting.
Haggard @ Dec 15th 2008 11:53AM
Man, Mafia 1 is the best game ever made. The driving was clunky, the action was annoying and the checkpoints were frustrating. But I fucking loved it!
Hopefully Mafia 2 will continue the same epic, amazing (yet also poor) lineage.
t_m @ Dec 15th 2008 12:02PM
Mafia 2 looks as awesome as mafia 1.
Watchmen... well, i love the franchise, and it looks pretty good for a download only game... though the comic wasn't really about action. Would have made a better adventure game imho.
Terminator: well, they could release Carebears adventures with the terminator music and i'd get sucked in... doubt it'll live up to Future Shock though...
hawk @ Dec 15th 2008 12:19PM
The game is a prequel to the novel. Set before the heroes were outlawed.
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Dec 15th 2008 12:18PM
Game takes place before the events in the comic, also it's kind of plausible that it's a beat em up since, you know, they fought crime.
t_m @ Dec 15th 2008 12:35PM
yeah i know, and it could be good. I'm definitely not writing it off.
But the focus of the comics was never really on the fighting or the action.
Bouille @ Dec 15th 2008 12:26PM
First off i'd like to clarify that I am an aethiest. Yet, I found that Dante's Divine Comedy was a VERY interesting read. Now they're turning this into a your super hero Virgil or Dante and your going to clense hell? Come on!
Altairio @ Dec 15th 2008 1:51PM
Like a guy in a $500 suit would play that!
Omega2k3 @ Dec 15th 2008 5:44PM
You forgot to say come on. COME ON!
ThornedVenom (Harley Quinn Defense Force) @ Dec 15th 2008 12:49PM
From Dante's Inferno, wasn't Limbo supposed to be for non-believers and was like all of the greatness of Earth, except lacking a divine touch (as if something was always missing)?
I wasn't expecting babies with crab appendages.
Fernando Rocker @ Dec 15th 2008 1:06PM
According to the book, the limbo is also the place where babies who have died without baptism spend eternity in a state of happiness but not in the presence of God.
ThornedVenom (Harley Quinn Defense Force) @ Dec 15th 2008 1:11PM
Sooo... where does the crab part kick in? You're supposed to hit weak spots for massive damage or something?
Killjebus @ Dec 15th 2008 1:28PM
Limbo, how low can you go....cha cha cha.
The Dark Wayne @ Dec 15th 2008 1:33PM
If I remember from English class a long time ago, Lingo was like the waiting room for heaven, but instead of filling out forms and applications, they would burn away your sin through a series of tests and trials. Idk I only read the Hell one, this is just what I was told a long time ago
Haggard @ Dec 15th 2008 2:51PM
Or if you're a Mormon, there is no hell, only spirit prison.
animebop @ Dec 15th 2008 3:26PM
Dante's Inferno never mentions purgatory, that's Dante's Purgatorio.
imaginarythomas @ Dec 15th 2008 12:56PM
Wow, they hammed Dante's infero up to 11. What started as a poet being guided through the underworld is now all muscular and "IN YOUR FACE"...
This had so much potential why not just have Master chief throwing energy drink cans at Lucifer?
Haggard @ Dec 15th 2008 2:55PM
I think I'd rather play the latter - wait, they already made it!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Painkiller_(video_game)
Joe @ Dec 15th 2008 1:15PM
They all looked interesting except for Watchmen. That just looked bland.
The Dark Wayne @ Dec 15th 2008 1:37PM
the watchmen one doesnt look that bad. I mean I'm a huge fan of the comic so ill buy it either way but I mean, nobody expected this to be ground breaking world changing GOTY stuff did they?
