That IS a pretty sweet deal! I was all on the LCD bandwagon, but looking at Plasma vs LCD at CC the other week, plasma still handles motion much better than LCD - me thinks the Plasma is would be the way to go... no?

LCD, go with a lower response time if your worried about blur. Anything with a 8ms response time and under should not be noticeable, it's not for me. No burn-in on the LCD's is a huge plus for gaming too.

Plasma gets burn-in? Welcome to 2008 (almost 2009) people. You can stop living in the past anytime.

I've had and gamed on a VIERA Plasma for over 2 years, never EVER had burn-in and never will.

Your 1080p dreams don't matter on TV's smaller than 60 inches, the human eye can't tell the difference below that size. This is a fantastic deal. Go buy it already. And yes I'd personally go with the plasma, better motion, color and black levels in general.

I have a 32" Vizio 720p and my cousin a 42"1080p LCD (samsung I believe) . Most blu-Ray movies I can tell the difference. Some screens you can tell artifacts(pixelations) reasonably well, since we both sit pretty close to our TVs.

Perhaps that's because you have a crappy store brand (no offense) and your brother a respectable name brand?

yea, you can tell the difference. Even down to a 32 inch 720p vs 1080p I can clearly identify which is which almost instantly. What really makes the difference is the input source, if its a good picture to start with then its easy to tell.

I actually won that 42" TV in a Radio Promotion, and my PS3 and 360 both look real nice on it. I might be able to answer anyone's questions on it.

I remember when I was reading up on it people complaining, wishing it had louder speakers, even though I completely disagree. Right now I have my volume at 8/50 and it is plenty loud.

I KNOW I must be reading this wrong because wouldn't that translate to a free Xbox 360 AND 400-500 dollars off??? Or a total of 700-800 dollars off?

Right? No?

No, Both TVs individually are worth $899.99. In this week's promotion you get a 360 AND either flat screen TV and get them both for $899.99. If you were to buy them separately, you will get it for $1199.99. It is pretty much like getting the 360 for free.

Ummm....that's not what the article says:
"The plasma and LCD TVs typically run for $1,300 and $1,200, respectively"

Actually, that's not quite true. On smaller size LCDs, Panasonic is superior to Samsung. And no matter the size or price, a Panasonic VIERA plasma is always superior to anything Samsung.

Why is there so much excitement for this "deal"?

A 720p 42" Plasma costs ~ $650 http://dealnews.com/Panasonic-VIERA-42-720-p-Widescreen-Plasma-HDTV-for-649-44-s-h/268547.html

A 720P 37" LCD (can) cost ~ $500 http://dealnews.com/Refurbished-Vizio-37-720-p-Widescreen-LCD-HDTV-for-460-39-s-h/268444.html

And an Xbox 360 Pro costs ~ $250 http://dealnews.com/15-off-video-game-consoles-at-Dell-Home-Deals-from-110-free-shipping/268498.html

So Best Buy is selling both for the price of both.

Sure, except these are Samsung TVs and not Panasonic and Vizio. Just because there are cheaper sets out there doesn't mean that this isn't a good deal. It is a good deal.

Actually, if going plasma, the Panasonic is far superior to Samsung. Opposite for LCD.

@ nsdcx,

You truly don't know anything about TVs do you? I can't believe you compared a Panasonic VIERA to a Vizio. What's next? Are you gonna compare a JVC to a Pioneer KURO?

You may want to do your research. Pioneer KUROs are the absolute BEST TV you can buy, followed closely by the Panasonic VIERA (plasma) line.

The qualitative jump between SD and 720p is several orders of magnitude greater than that between 720p and 1080p. (sorry for the long words, I've had a clever day).

The 360 on my cheapass 37" Vizio 720p LCD looks super lush (although fast motion is a little blurry).

The Wii on the other hand, looks terrible on the same TV (albeit connected through composite cables).

Ummm, it's a 42". Why would anyone need a 1080p 42" unless you're sitting 4 feet from it?

That being said, you can get a 42" 1080p Panasonic VIERA (open box, but an obviously much better TV) for $610 and a 360 Pro for $300 on newegg for a total of $910 with no tax or shipping. After tax at Best Buy you'll pay somewhere around $970 and get an inferior TV.

Nice try B&M store, but online wins again.

Granted not many people will go for an open box TV, but my point is that "deals" in a B&M store aren't really deals when compared to online shopping.

Yeah, this is a great deal. It was up earlier last weekend and was $799. That was an even better deal. Had I not just purhcased a $400 tv for the bedroom, this would be gone. Next year, I'm getting a new TV and I'll be waiting on a Best Buy deal. Last year saw a 56" Samsung DLP + 360 for $750-850.

Sorry to sound like a jerk, but get your facts straight people. Unless you have eagle vision, you're not going to notice 1080p on a 42" at any more than 7 feet from it. Here's a chart for ya:

http://www.carltonbale.com/2006/11/1080p-does-matter/

Anyone who tries to convince you to waste your money on 1080p on a TV less than 50" is an moron, unless you're sitting really close. Again, use that chart I linked to as a guide.

Great deal. I saw another one a few days ago for even lower.

http://www.123bargains.com/deals-info/5876/samsung-42-inch-720p-plasma-hdtv-with-200001-contrast-ratio-4-hdmi--microsoft-xbox-360-arcade-holiday.aspx

I'm not sure if it's still available, but seemed like a good deal. These deals and combos seem to go out of stock very fast, but they come back after a few days. Guess the stores are trying to get rid of whatever inventory they get as fast as they can.

Keep checking as the combos come and go very fast.

This site also has many different bundles for xbox and plasma or lcd tv combos.

http://www.123bargains.com

They also have a lot of great Plasma TV Deals at

http://www.123bargains.com/deals/electronics/plasma-tv.aspx

I check it every day
